The changes in voice tone and speed is what i miss the most on rally sims. The co-driver is always on monotone and it doesn't help to differentiate between a fast and technical section. Those changes in voice tone and speed dictating notes is very present in real life and it makes a huge difference. I was trying to keep up with these notes and it was way easy to know that a technical section was coming, while in DR2.0 we always get that "5 right---tightens to 2", just like any other "6 right - tightens to to 5" haha
@bakersmileyface3 жыл бұрын
That's it! People often underestimate how the change in tone can decide the pace of the driver. If the codriver's speaking loud and fast, it usually means there's going to be a quick follow-up and you need to change gears. Low and slow, it means that you can put your foot down.
@iyadkamhiyeh5273 жыл бұрын
you are absolutely right, I do not know how games studios miss such an important detail while recording voice notes
@yourvenparianen53902 жыл бұрын
It would be an enourmous amount of time and money to invest in voicelines with different tones based on the pacing . Some games tried to do it but for the most part , if there was an ai algorithm that could dynamically change pitch and tempo then maybe it could work
@ricardoneto132 жыл бұрын
@@yourvenparianen5390 yes, it needs to be AI otherwise it won’t work as it should
@N3onDr1v32 жыл бұрын
@@yourvenparianen5390 You could literally pitch and speed change the audio files used to construct the pacenotes based on the number and severity of the corners in the coming section. this is a negligable amount of development time compared to the game as a whole.

from my experience in the game, you can get a little bit of a ball park of how far something is just by eye. especially if you do a practice run like they did. that is one big difference in this and real life. if you know a straight line is coming up you can kind of just say short, medium, or long. don't really have to have the exact distances. when my co driver gives me a number, i generally will know how long it is without the number. you more or less can just translate "150" to "long" straightaway and know how you should handle it

Wow, first time I have heard of Loeb's pace note system in english (granted I only watch WRC occastionally and I know Elfyn Evans uses some weird 1-9 system). His pace note system definitely changed the game and contributed to his success. Afterall drivers before him all have relatively simple pace notes and I can't imagine a top rally driver today using McRae's simple 6-1 system. I hope future rally games stop using the 6-1 system, its pretty outdated imo and I would love to try Loeb's system in sim rallying. Also totally unrelated: Since you have a close connection with thrustmaster, maybe you can convince them to make a wheel with push and pull paddle just like those found in real wrc cars :D. I know its highly unlikely that they will do something for such a niche market but it would be pretty awesome if they somehow did :D
@JonArmstrongRallying3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! The French system is definitely niche in English drivers but I love it. Elfyns system is similar but just turned upside down. I have asked Thrustmaster to make a flappy paddle wheel on a few occasions but still not sure if they will do it 😃 would be awesome!
@gman164783 жыл бұрын
Where can I read up on this? I know McRae's system, and the weird one from RBR (though I never use it), but this sounded like McRae's but instead of 6-1 it's 16-11. In WRC 8 you can use 9-1, but I'm 1) bad at driving and 2) keep things simple so I use McRae's system.
