I saw the whole thing and I was very moved. His singing and acting made Faust a much more sympathetic, suffering, and guilty man than some others portrayals. Pape and Poplavskaya were also marvelous - altogether wonderful production despite the cold and dark stageset.

Again Kaufmann lavishes his profound artistry on what was a "warhorse" and found muances that seem to escape most tenors. This married to his supeerb Frrench make him a treasure that we are very lucky to have singing currently..

Oh man, what an AMAZINGLY beautiful rendition!! Of this rather cynical aria. Kaufmann is a GENIUS of musical expression and will go down in history as a rare gem for it, i am convinced of it. And that smooth, matter-of-factly natural transition into the climactic note, where the timbre barely changed. Leaves you almost excited about this beautiful opera with awful subject matter. Kaufmann makes this morally weak character seem too appealing and noble. Though on the other hand maybe this makes sense - beautiful voice, looks and lots of superficial emotion.. because otherwise how could she have ever fallen for such a loser.

ArtShouldBeBeautiful I think she falls for him because she is young and inexperienced and he is on the make. In the play by Goethe she is really onto Mephistopheles and asks Faust why he hangs around with him. Her instincts are good but his charm wears her down with the help of Satan. Faust is never entirely evil--I guess conflicted is the popular word. That's why he is so interesting imho.🤓

Your perception of intonation problems is quite the opposite of mine, and his singing in mezza voce(half voice or piano/pianissimo) is a sign of artistic sensitivity and technical skills that many others would kill to possess! It is not crooning, nor lack of ease with the tessitura!

It is unbelievable what a lot of bullshit has been written here about jonas kaufmanns singing. I am a tenor myself and am convinced that he will be remembered in 20 or 30 years as one of the really great tenors of this century. With his voice and technique he is able to do things, that almost no tenor, as far as we know them from recordings, has ever been able to do.

Possibly but I doubt. He has a strong masculine voice but on the border between tenor and baritone level. Lyric roles he should not perform. In 1919 he will be fifty and there is no time left to develop his technique farther .

Mark Narins i ask the same as mark narins? jonas kaufmann has 20 years on the stage playing the most difficult rols in a tenor repertoir, he went form liric characters to dramatic ones not forgetting the heroes which he gave flesh and blood. let's sing his first performances in faust and his voice has changed but each of it gave us the best faust. the high C in this recording is perfect in placement but kaufmann can sing this note like nobody could these days, with a piannissimo that he didn't use in this oportunity. something he does with his voice is incredible but his presence on the stage is unique. bravissimo!!!!!

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough in my original remark. Kaufman's performances of late do NOT merit the ranking or title of " Tenore " . They are SUB PAR and are approaching the threshold of being ANNOYING. He should either revise his repertoire to Baritone performances OR RETIRE.
@tiagodelode93689 жыл бұрын
somebody talk about baritones like they were desposable, they aren't something remaining. a baritone is a strange and beautiful human recod voice. it's not easy to be a good baritone and composers wrote very beautiful pieces for them. today thare're more than a dozen of good tenors but only three baritones on the stage with a good performance like stars in this way. So, to be a baritone is a privilage like to be a tenor or a bass, a soprano or a mezzo or a contralto. everybody have different voices, each of us have a particular instrument. we can typify voices in a regular range, standard range that never is fit to the reality. if kaufmann is strange it isn't mean than he's an offender. he sings in his voice and he's wondeful, this is said by a lot of people around the world. we can criticize some problem or vice in his tecnic, but to keep on speaking about jonas kaufmann as he was one thing or another is not to be a clear concept of the art and an artist.

Voy a dar mi opinión y no me importa q me conteste. Me da igual.

Yes, I voted for plus. I have deep respect for maestro Kaufmann. It is indeed a very good rendition. But it is not according to my taste. My fault...

they said Caruso was a baritone,he was a spinto/lyric tenor.kaufman is a dramatic tenor.!
@gigiseppe79828 жыл бұрын
he is a full lyric which means he has a lyric voice but darker than a lyric. But the thing with Jonas is that he is artificial darkening it to be able to fill dramatic roles which makes his voice sound woofy sadly
@Labienus8 жыл бұрын
While I agree with your conclusion, I'm not sure as to the cause. With the roles he's singing now he shouldn't be darkening if he could control it-I think it's just the voice-"sadly"To the other, no one said Caruso was a baritone? If Kaufmann is a "dramatic" tenor then he should try and be one, instead of an Italian spinto
@gigiseppe79828 жыл бұрын
Caruso was a dramatic spinto tenor Kaufmann is a full lyric that is trying to sound dark. Think of full lyric a the voice part that comes after dramatic lyrico spinto tenor. Essentially what that means is that Jonas has a lighter voice then a dramatic with some of the projection of a dramatic but a slightly darker lyric voice. Kind of like Pavarotti but of course no full lyric tenor sounds the same as the other in this case I'm using Pavarotti as an example of a full lyric tenor.

In arias like vesti al giubba and e lucevan le stelle are darker more dramatic characters, and others arias like la donna è mobile and che gelida manina are for more lyric like full lyric or lighter dramatic characters like the lyrico spinto dramatic tenor

The aria Salut demeure chaste et pure is for more lighter and or lyric charters

He is such an attractive performer who sings with a most welcome sensitivity. However, his soft singing sounds much like crooning to my ears. Intonation problems?? When he sings loudly the voice seems to come into focus. Is he singing in the tessitura which best suits his beautiful voice?
@alfredalfred35714 жыл бұрын
he sing in front of a microphone , on stage you cna not hear that this crooning

Kaufmann mi piace molto, però lo vedo poco adatto a questo ruolo.

@evangelo13 He's a tenor and a great one,using prety much the same technique as Corelli- depressing his larinx which gives him dark and monochromatic tone with great top notes.Just watch his Tosca from ROH and observe motion of his larynx.

you arre completely wrong and has no clue of what you say if JK used the same tecnic of corellli his would sound much better thatn he is actually and would not have vocal cords problem has he has !!
