When I was very very young I was in awe if ( coincidence!?) the same tenor mr Pavarotti loved , mr Giuseppe di Stephano . Only in his youth. Afterwards he ruined his voice by smoking. As I saw it and later mr Pavarotti admitted his voice was perfect, nothing stopped him from “ over stretching it” and he was the first to add drama to old tenors who sang just “art gratia artis” . Now in my 3rd youth I see this young handsome man as a perfect pupil who had outperformed mr di Steohano. And lucky guy he us very very handsome too. Some men get all the gifts and talents. But to not forget the hard work, perfect discipline and delaying a family life. I wonder who will follow for the next generation.❤

This video is so great on so many levels. I can close my eyes and listen to this outstanding performance by Jonas Kaufmann and be transported to another realm. But watching it is so much fun. Kaufmann in his jeans and polo is too cute. His excitement at the conclusion is delightful. He nailed it and he was ready to celebrate. I only wish the two VEVO signs would cover all of his delight at the end. The conductor's large arm movements and gum chewing are a hoot. The blonde soprano in the back row chewing gum for all she's worth, as well as the gal in the front row who counts and mouths words make me smile. How the musician in the back row in the blue shirt could doze and look so bored is beyond me. But my very favorite is the balding French horn player in the red shirt who is seen mouthing the words with Kaufmann as if he were performing the aria as well, is positively delightful.

My dad showed me this clip when I was like 9 and its been my favorite peace of music ever produced since. Not the song but this recording of this specific rehearsal. ITs like floating alone in space staring at the galaxy type of music!

Truly amazing. And it's always a pleasure to see the maestro Pappano directing

Escucha a Jussi Bjorling y compara.

Only in rehearsal and yet this is above average performance quality. This is the best rendition of this aria by far.

Throaty, woofy and constricted! Viva Corelli! kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6TQnpqefcZ4a9k And this is LIVE. Kaufmann has never dared to sing Calaf live.
