it looks a lot like that cel shaded prince of persia game from a while back, i remember people hating on it, but it seems to me more that people hated how different it was from the series, since the game itself is actually kinda fun, and i think the structure of that game would work really well here, with a series of linear dungeons that all loop back to hub areas as you collect orbs and unlock mechanisms and such, and Jonas' photoshop edit made me think that even more, with the saturated sandy temple aesthetic, lots of potential there :)

Thank you so much for playing "Immortus Temporus"! You said the most satisfying words this game could ever hope for: "I can do it faster". :) The visual effects you saw last ~30 seconds, have their own soundtracks, and they're just there to switch up the audio and visuals of the game from time to time. The suggestion to make "GOLD time" more visible is GOLDEN, thank you!
@pewbyhut77213 жыл бұрын
Great game, man! And good idea to change up the visuals so the game doesn't feel too same-y. I think the seemingly random changes are what feels jarring. When the colors where continuously morphing, it took me a while to realize that it was purely aesthetic and not a mechanic. Maybe the levels could be split between different "zones" where there's a set pallete in each so there is a clear reason why the visuals are changing. That way you retain the visual intrigue without piling on a ton more work, but also don't confuse the player. This also can give the player a strong sense of progression, again with fairly minimal extra work. Also, deliberately choosing a couple palletes removes the moments where the color morphing leads to an unappealing look. Keep it up! Truly exemplary game design and execution!
@pewbyhut77213 жыл бұрын
And, since I didn't play the game, if you actually already done this, then nevermind.
@Khud03 жыл бұрын
@@pewbyhut7721 Thank you for the compliments and great ideas! :) At the moment, the visual effects appear after the main soundtrack ends. After a second of silence, a new 30-seconds-long track starts and activates the aforementioned effects. When it ends, it's all back to normal again. I watched a lot of videos of people playing this game, and most of them didn't like this feature and disabled it from the settings. Others... Well, they were just confused as to what is happening. :D Deliberately choosing palettes and tying them to progression sounds like an awesome solution! It could also be interesting to unlock palettes for beating the levels in "gold time". Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts, have a nice day! :)

i half agree with "we've had object markers, no one needs that" But i'd also argue that there's a lot of people who play few games/not a lot of games that might not know what those mean. I think there's maybe a more blended way to show how they work and not just text but its the same idea, i think the moment you don't at least show how something works you leave a gap where that those people who have no idea what you're talking about start to get lost. basically: its easy to assume something is common knowledge when its something that YOU already know (this goes for anything, not just games, but its fitting)

I think the first game would look nice as kind of a desert, sandy vibe, with some buildings and vegetation, (maybe a few pools of water), and also maybe some more challenges as the player gets better, like enemies or needing certain resources you have to find like water (I say that because it's a movement-based game, and Jonas was right collectibles would be nice), the thing is I would make the rockets fit more with that aesthetic, and also you saw Jonas got such a lot because he forgot turning sharply makes you de-accelerate.

the first game... would be better with: A slight speed-boost (temporary) when you wall-run on a new wall sliding to keep momentum from rockets walking, slow, but gets you... somewhere ability to go vertically, but at the cost of maybe O2 (thin air so tank need refill, to not go too high)

It depends what the dev is going for, if they are trying to make a deserty "bland" look then I think the colors work fine. A little more vegetation still wouldnt hurt though. What really would help visually imo is a little more detail in the buildings/walls. Like look at the buildings in the background here 5:51 . Theyre just blocks with blank walls. A little more architerural detail would add a lot. (Although I understand this is an early build)
@JonasTyroller3 жыл бұрын
I agree that it's hard to give proper feedback without knowing the design goals of the developers. As a rule of thumb I just assume they wanna sell as many copies as possible and I definitely think that an update to the colors would help with that.
