I'm colorblind (protanopia). The witness is the ONLY game with color-based gameplay that I could perfectly enjoy without needing to capture the screen and go through Gimp to pick the colors. They actually optimized it as much as possible. Other developers that pride themselves on adding accesibility just put in some full screen color filters that ruins the game aesthetics and don't even work and call it a day. But having the checkbox is all the idiot gamers like to see and big companies know that.

That's a very interesting perspective, and I hope you're including the color theory puzzles. I'm not colorblind and on a few puzzles I needed to screenshot and solve it in an image editor.

Interesting. I'd say it's a shame colourblind people cannot enjoy The Witness fully, but I don't think blind or deaf people can, either... and if we want to allow for everyone to enjoy the games to their full extent then we're down at the lowest common denominator, which would probably be old school text adventure games, with the additional hurdle of having to regionalize it and remove any specific references. I'm sad that some people can't enjoy some forms of entertainment. But do we all need to pass up on it to be fully inclusive? So yeah. It's probably just personal attacks with no real reason other than attempting to win an argument on the internet.

It's not that most developers don't care about those issues. It is just extremly difficult to develop any game and even more difficult to earn a profit even without addressing special needs people have. But on the flip side, I do believe large studios who aready have billions of dollars saved up can be pioneers in addressing these issues. Even when they do address any issue it is usually some idiotic privilaged white woman issue than a real issue so that they can get some good will or marketing out of it. They will put a women as the primary character you play as in a World War game but have never addressed thousands of Indians(real Indians, not natives in America) that died thanks to British dragging them into a war that wasn't even theirs to fight. They very clearly only care about the profit.

you should come back to this comment section and look around. There is a comment from someone who is colorblind and claims that the witness was the only game they could play without having to use a color picker to tell what each color was. Maybe having support for color blind people doesnt mean adding a magic square that adds a poor filter and call it a day... maybe actually being a good game designer and knowing how to make things that work is a key element. But I guess you care more about the magic checkbox than actual evidence and personal experience from people who are actually colorblind. Because, why would we ever listen to the people affected by a certain issue about their opinion when we can just slap an ugly filter and claim that we saved the world?
