No matter what example he would've used, y'all would've complained either way. Plus, the other half, the reason he was irritated, was that he did not want anyone else in his house and proceeded to bring someone in his house....while he was working with someone.

I disagree that this isn't perseverance. Jonathan Majors was persecuted by police officers who fabricated charges, an ex-girlfriend who changed her story after seeing the evidence, and a DA's office hungry for convictions against high-profile black men. The jury didn't believe Galaway and Perez's theory that Majors was abusive. They acquitted him of charges relating to intent. They were not instructed on justification, which is a reversible error in NY. Judge Gaffey even encouraged an appeal on this issue. The prosecution didn't seek jail time at sentencing. There's also a problem in access to this trial. What was widely available came from a select few journalists, most of whom weren't in court for the full trial. People are fixed on a recording and a set of texts that start with "It's just fake" and end with an implication that Grace Jabbari broke a personal belonging, but that's not what made the buzz online. Grace Jabbari testified she started the physical fight. Then, she chased him for 5 blocks and attacked him again a second time. She testified she struck him during that 2nd time with the same hand that had the finger injury. Though the judge wouldn't allow bodycam audio, she was questioned about telling the police her finger injury happened during that second incident. The only other witness in the car - the Driver - said she was doing everything and that he was trying to get away. Grace Jabbari also testified she fell unconscious on the bathroom floor (this was after asking Jonathan to respond to her texts and calls - he wasn't home) and didn't hear Jonathan arriving home that morning. This can't be true, because she was texting her friend simultaneously. However, this scene is what gave rise to the initial and untrue story that Jonathan Majors strangled Grace Jabbari. The jury wasn't allowed to see photos of Jonathan Majors injuries. Questions about Grace Jabbari's i-cards, arrest, and unusual DAT were objected to and sustained, so the jury wasn't allowed to hear the full details of two different precincts finding probable cause to arrest her for domestic assault and criminal mischief. The prosecution cut a deal with Grace Jabbari - they promised her no legal repercussions whatsoever (before looking into what NYPD detectives found, which means this isn't simply a matter of prosecutorial discretion), and she agreed to cooperate in testifying against Jonathan Majors. This is brady material and wasn't disclosed to the defense in a timely manner, either. This case is a great example of why we need transparency in courts. Your thoughts are powerful, but the subject matter is different than it appears.

This might be a long comment, but please bear with me. 😅🙏🏽 As a fellow believer, my heart felt the heavy impact of this video & your refreshing perspective on the Jonathan Majors situation. I couldn’t help but see some similarities in my own life, specifically around the idea that certain setbacks in our lives can expose some of the areas of brokenness & fallibility we carry within. For Majors, this feels like it. He’s experiencing a huge setback, but one that is small enough that he can still make a comeback & have a successful career… but I get the feeling that is only possible if he addresses his internal issues & hopefully now that he’s with Meagan, surrenders to God. Also, just as a real-life testimony to whoever will receive it? I’m going through a similar thing; a career & financial setback where it feels like nothing is working. But when everything fails, I notice that I get more time to see the self-destructive patterns I engage in; how my inclination to ‘hard work’ is really an insecurity towards the truth that GOD PROVIDES, and that (compared to Coretta) my endurance is short and conditional. 🤷🏽♂️ When everything fails, I get to lean the One who doesn’t fail, and this is by no means an easy habit to built, neither is it without a lot of pain, but it’s a necessary path to healing & growth - Majors aside, we all need some of this. Thank you for another impactful video, Tiffany! ❤

What a beautiful testimony, martin, thank you for sharing it! I deeply resonate with this feeling of exposure and just as you said, the challenges of setbacks that seems all around me and closing in. Its a debilitating feeling and one where I know I'm gonna to have look in the mirror more than ever before. But the beauty of a setback is an opportunity to CHANGE. and just as you have said, God is a provider, meaning He will sustain you in the moment as well as the after. My prayer is that many reading your comment do receive it because that is EXACTLY the goal of the video. It's about us seeing ourselves through other's failures..not because we want to judge them harshly, but because we wish to take out the plank in our own eyes and see clearly. Thank you for your sharing and for your vulnerability. It has fulfilled the reason I made this content ❤

This was a beautiful essay and I love hearing your thoughts on different subject matters. This was spot on in regards to the biblical example and how we as a people need to not only take accountability but stop enabling bad decisions and behaviors. Learning to say and speak the truth even if it hurts the other person's feelings. Well sometimes the truth hurts but this will help you look at yourself and work on your flaws. SIDE NOTE: My husband went to school with Majors (elementary or middle, i can't recall), anyways he told me he was weird then and weird now. He also told me he fought/hit a girl. I do feel that we’ve lost a lot of nuance in the “accountability” discussion because we don’t actually know what accountability is, we just know what people portray it as. It does not follow virtue signaling or PR stunts. It’s supposed to be the catalyst to a heart and life change. that’s what true accountability looks like. it’s humility in public. Occasionally I ask for such corrections with awareness that being caught in the implementation of my personhood could render me oblivious to my missteps with how fast I move sometime. Being nice or personable also tends to garner enablement from those who do not want to correct you in my personal experience. So, in addition to asking for correction, I have had to actively work on disarm what graces my favorable behavior would otherwise grant me. Because, while this may be selfish of me, there is nothing worse than not knowing what lies in store. So to hold myself accountable, I ask it of others as well through my self-improvement. Otherwise, what is the value in my missteps if I do not change as needed for myself and others? Keep up the good work. I am going to keep watching.

The Coretta Scott-Kingness is CURRRAAAAAZEEEEE!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 I couldn't agree more. We, as a culture, oftentimes overlook extremely wicked behaviors simply to make war with the "common enemy". Two truths can exist in the same space. Yes, he was persecuted more because Grace is white. At the same time, he is also persecuted because he already had a problematic reputation of being an emotionally violent man in college and his ways caught up to him. I believe Megan is with him out of guilt because she was the other girl he was texting. She refuses to disclose how they met, which speak volumes. Either way, it is important that he is being held accountable. The perseverance award is tricky because he shouldn't have been convicted for what he was convicted for, true, but he also was very guilty of being abusive in other situations with her, which they weren't putting him on trial for. There's no way he should have been honored after that. The man is so busy being obsessed with Dr. King that he forgot to take the advice of Malcolm X about fooling with certain types of women.

Very timely topic and msg. 1. Today I took a step in letting a loved one know I am no longer co-signing on her way of processing adversity. I fell in the cycle of supporting her development even when she was not growing. But, no more. The purpose of my role in her life was fulfilled. I lovingly supported her from her childhood through tough times. Modeled a life of kindness, humility, and patience. Now as a woman over 35, she will have to find her way. 2. Jonathon Majors: the first movie of his I watched was The Harder They Fall. He played his role as the injured child now an outlaw out to get revenge so well that it made me not like the actor. I got the same feeling in Rocky. Then I watched him present the Oscar to a writer alongside Michael Jordan. The difference between the two actors was evident. The two walked off the stage with the winner who was nervous and visibly overwhelmed by his experience. Michael Jordan patted the writer’s back in such a sincere way as men do for one another. Michael was so gracious. Jonathon’s demeanor was totally different. The award was given and that was that. It was as if no one else was in the room but Jonathan. I observed a small moment that spoke volumes to me.

Please take the time to learn about his case and understand everything that’s been going on!! He said that because she was coming in the house drunk and bringing her drunk friends with her …per the transcripts!! She also said during the trial that he has never abused her. The only reason he was found guilty was because of her finger (which she probably injured trying to snatch his phone from him) and him putting her bk in the SUV. One more thing .. he had injuries from her as well (with pics) but no one talks about that!!!! We have to do better 💯💯

Thank you for this video. This is tough. I think for Majors and for people in our own lives who are going through the consequences of their own decisions, it's easy to judge and condemn. It's also equally as easy to let them off hook if you like them or you are invested in their success. Both of these approaches are problematic. Accountability is what's needed. Accountability with love and honesty. The culture needs to practice a fatherly love that says "You are wrong, you will be rightfully punished, but I'm not giving up on you because I love you"
@TiffanyByrdHarrison4 ай бұрын
very well said, Stephen! this is very much a challenge when people misunderstand what discipline, love, and fatherhood is. Like majors, I also did not grow up with my father, so I had to truly learn what a good father was outside of the context of my own home. And to your point, when we are invested in someone’s success, we would rather not Give them the proper accountability framework because it takes a long time, it requires commitment, and it is not celebratory in that season.

To me what this situation reflects is the cost that comes with being a fish in a bowl in show business. One's sovereignty and anonymity are up for grabs leaving you at the mercy of opinions that will either pollute or cleanse your water. With Jonathan, it’s clear that he’s conflicted between his inner world, and outer identity. That he, like most of us has some healing to do which can be precarious when one’s living depends mostly on public perception. Jonathan’s declaration: “I am a great man!”, says to me that he fears the loss of his dream and the uncertainty that follows. As far as humility, it can be challenged by fear and/or pain that may leave one more protective and defensive therefore delegating humility to the back burner. What Iyanla did to me is a double-edge sword that will either feed “victimhood”, or hopefully excite self-examination that leads to insight and healing. As far as Megan, I see someone who is using this situation to nurture her public image. My hope for Jonathan is that he opens to what this experience is teaching him and gains the healing, and wisdom therein.

Girl this content is in depth and thoughtful - my question though, is being an actor comparable to the calling Sampson had? Did JM have a calling to God because he’s a successful actor!? That comparison might be a stretch of the imagination.
@TiffanyByrdHarrison4 ай бұрын
Great point. The comparison isn’t based on the occupation but “calling” which every single person has by God imo. you can be called to acting, mechanics, corporate, etc. The comparison is - whatever you are called to do can be thwarted by distractions. Things that are outside of the alignment of that calling. many are called but few are chosen, is essentially what I was saying.

Difficulties show a person's character and Jonathan has shown his true colors in the past year and a half: calm, dignified, humble. He kept his cool and showed no resentment, despite all the lies and false charges. We all saw the evidence (e.g. video of the woman chasing him for five city blocks), he is completely innocent and totally deserving of the perseverance award. African Americans must show their support, racial bias played a huge part in this misdemeanor case.

Hi Ms. Harrison. I’ve watched quite a few of your videos, if not all of them. The desire to improve black Entertainment is one I share all the way here from Africa. I admire your work in navigating the American scene and presenting your thoughts here. I think this was somewhat confusing. You start with saying you want to give your opinion of Majors based on the first production of his you saw. You didn’t give anything there. You immediately jumped to discussing his mistake. The Antman Quantum love entanglement ( see what i did there ;-). Okay seriously, this threw me off, because i thought you were about to show us the man has a track record or something, or to ground us in where your perspective begins. This might be an editing issue, but I needed to say it. Let’s discuss the main theme of your video: clarity between false humility and confidence to move forward, to continue being part of your community. You have not defined what you mean by false humility. I wont insult you by putting in a definition of it here. I’m saying, I don’t know what you mean by it. I think you were right to frame this around ourselves and use his story as a parable-only it was an incomplete assessment of a couple’s life choices. I do not think you followed your own rules in this regard. So lets review what you’re saying about Majors. I agree with your points that Majors played a big role in his own downfall, based on the choices he made and the statements he said. I even agree that his ego in calling himself a ‘great man’ seems odd and possibly damning. Possibly. This comes back to your clear definition of what is false humility and how is he displaying it. Your biblical example is Samson, a great man who got played thanks to his bad choices. I see the parallels but i do not see the theme in play here: what is the link to false humility? Samson was a great man. When you switch back, you speak about the woman who took Majors and not what Majors did that links him to the Samson reference. The audio and text Ngl are evidence of a controlling person. I agree with that. But what is the life he lives? Is it not public and full of threats and traps? How easy is it to fall from grace? do you not think that any of us would want our significant others to behave in certain ways? I’m not saying his messages are healthy, I’m saying we do not understand the nature of stardom and what it can do to you. But it’s been a while. Majors fall has been dramatic and the man has been beaten to the ground. He simply refuses to stay there. I think he made big mistakes, but he does not deserve to stay in that hole. He is allowed to build again. He has taken actions to review himself and his life, as we can tell by statements when he told Megan Good not to be with him right now. But she convinced him. And both of them have come out of hardship in relationship, and chose to connect public ally despite how it looks. As to his heart, you have no access to that. You do not know the prayers he says at night or have been said over him. And thats all we know. What is the false humility? How long should he remain isolated to heal himself? what do we know of the counselling and advising around him? Is this really about his ego of his belief that he is a great man, and a woman who believes the same? Am i missing the key issue here?
@mongiwekhaya12014 ай бұрын

HI There @mongiewekhaya, appreciate your comments and questions, that is valid! In terms of the criticism to how I structured the video, I can see how it wasn't linear, therefore it seemed out of order. But that was an intentional choice on my part. As much as these videos could be hours long, I really tried to focus on the personal connection I had to Majors and transition into the point where others became aware of him. I was adding credibility a la "I knew Majors before he was mainstream" without saying it directly. As for the rest of your points, the biggest defense I have is that I never intend to spoon-feed my audience. You along with many others are deep, critical, and profound thinkers so I wouldn't insult your intelligence by telling you "this is where the false humilty is! Right here, SEE IT." The whole of this is to show you the pathway of how one gets here. This is not just JM's struggle, this is a human nature issue. All of us can get here when we don't do deep inner work and then publicly, we make missteps because we're desperate to move on from the fall. But the beauty of humility is that it does not look for awards. It's not interested in public attention or affirmation. He could about-face in his public actions and remove the PR-ness of this moment. But that's a critique that I wasn't necessarily harping on Majors for. I'm more concerned about the lessons we take from this and how we will justify our own choices while actively being validated for performative behavior. I'll take the heat for not leading the horse to water, but I believe the key issue is NOT majors. The issue is us and how we "see" these things. So perhaps watching the video back again, and enter with a perspective on seeing each one of us as Majors should help to reframe.

Hollywood will character assassinate you once you declare your heterosexual stance. Especially when you're a black actor such as him. Hey there, thanks for your comment. If you would rather not watch due to the Christian element, there is no obligation to do so. But I’ve never hidden my faith, I talk about it often, and if someone doesn’t want to watch due to that, that is totally their prerogative. I do find it interesting though that people are willing to listen to content with all kinds of spiritual leanings with no problem,even I listen to different worldviews and don’t think that just because someone is not a Christian doesn’t mean that they should state that or make that plain. I picked it up in how they carry themselves. I’ve never had an issue with someone believing differently from me. I state on countless videos that I follow Jesus, I see that you also picked up on that which is great. But even if you disagree with my faith, if there’s good to take from the video, I think I’d rather create a space where people with different beliefs can discuss and respect each other then immediately have someone disregard everything I say just because of my faith.

Jonathan Majors didn't commit domestic violence. The fact that she ran after him, stole his phone from his hand (robbery), ran out into traffic after him, and avoided court appearance from the beginning to the point that there was a warrant for HER ARREST is proof that she is the criminal. Any and all arguments between them is exactly that: an argument. Nobody wants a trashy drunk woman in their house. Yelling at a woman is NOT domestic violence. The vast majority of women are NOT damsel in distress victims. The situations that arose from women having no work history, all male bosses, the experiment of women in the work place is long past. Your situation is nowhere near what women had to go through in the great depression era. So quit this woman worship crud. Jonathan Majors is a victim of man-hating and racism. Plain and simple.
