SEX was actually a VERY clever, insightful and provocative, BUT, HIGHLY intelligent work of art. I don't think ANY pop star has done something as clever before or since.
@migue4793
@migue4793 4 жыл бұрын
It was very clever. It's a book of sexual fantasies. Americans don't like it because of religion. People need to be open about their sexual fantasies it's normal
@tillyboos
@tillyboos 4 жыл бұрын
Migue N. Agreed. I’m always happy to say that although American, I was raised in a VERY non-traditional way that makes me open-minded. I viewed SEX as a literary and photographic expression of sexual fantasies. I couldn’t judge SEX as anything else, BECAUSE when I read/looked at it, there were things in it that aroused me. That’s WHY people got up in arms about it, because it turned them on, and they didn’t know how to handle that.
@migue4793
@migue4793 4 жыл бұрын
@@tillyboos Yeah for some reason people would rather glorify violence than talk about sex, and you're right i believe it scares them when they get aroused by fantasies, but having sexual fantasies is healthy. My partner and I would try lots of role play and we always came up wirh awesome sexual activities.
@tillyboos
@tillyboos 4 жыл бұрын
Migue N. The US is a RIDICULOUSLY violent society, and it’s completely glorified in absolutely EVERY WAY. That’s good that you and your partner are able to do that with each other, that’s VERY important. I’d MUCH RATHER talk about Sex than pretty much anything else really. It’s MUCH healthier and more fun than objectifying and glorifying violence or racism, or homophobia or pretty much ANYTHING that is unpleasant.

treg1980 I agree with you COMPLETELY about Erotica as an album. I see the SEX book as successful BECAUSE it backfired. I think she KNEW it would backfire to a certain extent. She’s a VERY shrewd businesswoman. She did the same thing she did when her nude photos surfaced in 1985, she made it work for her career, and made the controversy bankable.

when Jonathan makes comparison between Madonna to Michael Jackson, George Michael and Prince... my only thought was..."oh my... they have already gone and there is Madonna, still stands alive and kickin'. It's because the interviewers actually asked important questions. They didn't always ask about sex, partying & social media. Also kids back then didn't have Add (that's a joke) & could actually wait & enjoy something. Now everyone lives fast, one thing is in & the next month it's out. Everything is just so fast today & it's so sad.

It's a shame that the album was so ignored because it was (and especially now still is) amazing. And not many here in the US got to see the incredible Girlie Show, as she only played New York, Detroit, and Philly because of the famous "Madonna Backlash".
@samuelosler4009
@samuelosler4009 8 жыл бұрын
Erotica sold 6 million worldwide including 2 million (double platinum) in the US. It may have been a disappointing seller by "Madonna standards" but it was hardly a flop. The Girlie Show sold out EVERYWHERE and at the time had the highest per concert gross by a female artist in history . It even made more money than Blond Ambition did with WAY less shows, just 39. The backlash wasn't the reason that Madonna didn't tour the US as extensively with TGS, Madonna wanted and did go to countries with that tour that she had never been before like Australia and Turkey. If you look at the per concert box office gross and attendance for TGS it was FUCKING MASSIVE. Madonna could of easily done more dates in the US and made a shitload of more money.

Oh yeah she definitely suffered a backlash but she was still extremely successful ESPECIALLY with touring. There were rumors that Madonna was gonna come back to the US and do a more extensive US tour in 1994 but Madonna decided against it because she wanted to start working on her next (Bedtime Stories)) album as soon as possible. MTV news had a report on it in December 1993 because TGS was sold out everywhere.
@samuelosler4009
@samuelosler4009 8 жыл бұрын
Madonna did 57 shows on her Blond Ambition tour in 1990 when she was "on top of the world" and grossed $62.7 million. In 1993 when she was in backlash mode and everyone supposedly hated her she did just 39 shows on The Girlie Show tour and grossed $70 million. Again Madonna had the highest ever per concert gross by a solo female artist with TGS. This is NEVER brought up since were all supposed to go along with the illusion that Madonna was unpopular in 1993 because of the Sea book.

WAP is vulgar, distasteful & disposal, apart from the shock value, is instantly forgettable... Musically dire. What Madonna created, was sexual fantasy, always with finesse, which is only matched by Prince & George Michael's videos, they remain in the psyche, the music they produced was all musically exhilarating... Madonna, Prince & George Michael will stand the test of time & remain fresh. WAP won't age well. Oh, & no one can match Madonna for religious iconography

Scott A I'm still a fan too, I just liked her so much during "Erotica." I feel embarrassed for her know because she's a complete parody of herself. It has nothing to do with her age, just the material that she chooses to release, and the crowd that she collaborates with. I agree with what she believes about ageism, people always want to act like like once a person reaches a certain age they are no longer allowed to be sexual. I have no problem with how sexual she is now, just with her antics.

Matt James Confessions was the start of the less than perfect albums. I LOVE NEW YORK was a crappy Sheryl Crow cringe festival track that was so Absurd when played outside New York!!! But Confessions and Hard Candy still had excellent standards, Heart Beat and Devil Wouldnt Recognize and Voices were Great. Even songs that were complete departure from a Madonna style still sounded like it had her soul all over it. MDNA and Rebel Heart were too much of the era. But her Vocals save the day. Madame X was at least very INNOVATIVE. Madonna doesnt have to repeat herself. If fans are bored with new stuff. Then they should MOVE on and find new hobbies. Madonna doesnt have to live her life to feed outdated fans who depend on her for an identity.

Prophet Madonna to be honest, I think her fans are usually a bit crazy. They hate any negativity - a bit like Jackson fans. They can’t admit she’s lost it musically and seems detached from reality (let’s not even mention her strange appearance). These stars don’t know when to stop and continue to churn out ‘music’ which just isn’t relevant anymore. I suppose there’s only so many times you can get your tits out to sell music.

This is why I was in love with Madonna and still in love with Madonna. Nothing sexual but more of a hero a figure of power. She is so beautuful witty smart as fuck and definitely a trail blazer way ahead of all other artists. She continues to influence up till now and there is no slowing her down. She has lived a healthy lifestyle and is the remaining living legend left. We should all recoginze and respect this human being for opening up doors for people who needed a platform to be heard. You will always be a QUEEN HRH MADONNA. Much love and respect. Bow down bitches!❤💙💚💛💛💜💟

She’s not bored by the media attention - her brother says she’ll stop at nothing - I’m listening to an audio book by her brother, Christopher, who was her closest sibling and worked for her, and after listening to it I believe this was staged - not sure if that’s already known, but even a trip to her mother’s grave was scripted. He said the “documentary” was ironically her best acting of all her films. Sounds like a little English accent.

@@jereykobalt8874 jesus HOW can you be so blind about the true nature of her? You bought into the role created by her (or her puppets) It's about time you come to accept and deal with that fact. It was all just a character. This was never the real her.

Absolutely riveting interview, the rapport between them is so good you don't wanna miss a word! Yes it flew by too fast, I could if easily sat & watched it go on for hours. Great that M lets us rethink exactly how much better the World could be if we all opened up a bit more about our Fantasizing!! Also it's refreshing to listen to someone who's prepared to say in public what most of us are only willing to say in private, as it opens up the possibility of changing the stupid guilt & shame we are made to feel about completely natural human instincts & desires by narrow minded mind controlling institutions like the outdated Catholic Church etc! Freedom of self expression may never have been possible without Ms contribution in her Art over the years! A true Humanitarian that deserves to be highly Respected for pushing the boundaries & changing society for the better! It started with Taboo subjects & then evolved into other areas that needed to be challenged & let's hope she never stops making us all see how much the World can evolve by as simple a thing as THINKING; & WONDERING just why we fear to admit how much in denial the majority are regards basic Human Rights, surely to do as we LIKE to in REAL HONEST Modern Day lives, makes us FREE & at EASE & Ultimately that makes for less Disease & Suffering! EMBRACE the Human Condition & set us Free from MISERY haha if ONLY we ALL DID........what a GLOBAL WONDERLAND it Could Be😋

@@firouz4296 I would be SHOCKED that a designer, especially at that time, would not want Madonna to be wearing their pieces. I have worked for many high profile designers (all that Madonna wears, including Dolce & Gabbana) and they all clamor for her to wear their things. But I guess you never know..
@firouz4296

Mugler did not specifically work with models! He liked real people and did not care for diva behavior cause he was super extra! He played by his rules and is not to be compared to Dolce. He is more in the line of indie artists like Azzeddine who rejected the faschist fashion system until his dead! Mugler (now Manfred) closed his label many years ago and sold off the license. He bow designs theater and show costumes. In retrospective many people hated Madonna and rejected her (Goldie etc.) Maybe also because working with her , often kills off your career for ever!

I love when she talks about ageism and she is still here at her 65 doing tours, sexy photos, going out and living her life the fulliest. She doesn't like to repeat herself, but i think she should repeat herself and do another sex book now, it would be revolutionary and help to break the stigma that old ladies can't be perceive as sexual.

Jenna Roi lately yes sadly. how much music do you still have in you after you have worked so hard. her recent efforts have failed to keep me in the loop. Rebel heart felt like an honest turn but not honest enough in my taste. She is getting older and there are some new faces, i just felt like it would be nice for her to just be brutally honest about her struggle to stay on top through the music. that's just my personal opinion. At the end of the day, it's her journey and i admire her for all the things she did and how she did them. I love her sex book and what she wrote in it, about safe sex and all of that
