I really appreciate these reviews by Jonathan, because you not only get to hear the instrument on Overdrive and clean, but he takes the time to label the pickup combinations. And, of course, his playing is always inspiring. In terms of this guitar, sounds and looks nice. The Yamaha revstar series has an interesting answer to the volume drop off of coil split pickups. They call it a dry switch. Reverend Guitars have a similar switch, that has an even wider tonal variation than the revstar. Happy Easter! Peace be with you all.

I bought two Van Nuys guitars. Both had microphonic problems in the bridge hum bucker. I liked the single coils enough to go back the second time. I called Schecter and they agreed the bridge was microphonic and said they would send me a new one. They did. Over one hundred dollars to my local luthier later and that pickup was also microphonic. I have more than a few guitar with humbuckers. I can crank them and stand next to my amps without a problem. Not with the Van Nuys. It squeals like a stuck pig and is worthless to play. If you don't play with high gain it's ok. So I'm just warning any who buy it. Be prepared to buy a new (non schecter) hum bucker for the bridge. Everything else works fine. Fit and finish is great not to mention it looks killer.

That’s really interesting.. because I did not find the pickups on the van Nuys that I’ve reviewed, microphonic at all. Thanks for sharing
@TheOldFlyguy2 жыл бұрын
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Hopefully its just me but it happened. I run a Hughes & Kettner 20 & my Mesa Boogie 25 close to where I play. When gained beyond half way the squealing starts. If I play my Vola HH, PRS custom 24, Suhr T, they all do fine. Just the schecter and only in the bridge. I'm going to get a SD in the bridge. Hopefully that does it. It's a shame because I like everything else about the guitar. The Tech at Schecter sent a new pickup that did the same thing. He wasn't very helpful or seemed to care as much as you would think either. I love the build and look of schecters but not in love with their pickups.

This or the Nick Johnston HSS? Decisions, decisions LOL This has an ash body and USA pickups, but everything else seems about the same. They both have roasted maple necks, tusq nuts, locking tuners, vintage 2-pt trem, 5-way switching with push/pull coil split for the humbucker. Hmm. About the same price, too. I think I'm leaning toward the NJ just for the traditional look and more color options. And even though they are import pickups, I think they sound pretty good. Hard time choosing between the white with ebony board or the black with roasted maple board :) I know you did mods to yours, so I'll probably end up doing the same once I get mine...put a Dimarzio AT-1 in the bridge, Super Vee Bladerunner trem, and Hipshot staggered locking tuners.

@@JonIsJustTooLoud I think this will be one of the big questions people will ask. Nick Johnston or PT Van Nuys.
@alandunn44593 жыл бұрын
Van Nuys is where Schecter built custom super strats for customers back in the late 70's and 80's. This guitar is a wonderful and affordable reproduction of those guitars - which easily sell for $10k and more today if you can find anyone willing to sell one. So the traditional reference is to the Van Nuys custom guitars which have been around for over 40 years.

Thanks for posting these videos, there's not many videos out there for these Van Nuys models. Jon is just TOO LouD!!, which model did you like better? This one or the PT?

Nice Playing Style, Great Guitar (wish a Guitar company would make a Guitar body with just One Piece of wood). New Sub, Teach me how to Solo, something for the Intermediate Player!

amazing guitar put the pick ups are nothing to write home about, but that neck and look are incredible worth the price under $1000 but I dont think you get a case or a gig bag with it wich is a bummer too

Hi Jon, wich one do you prefer between this one and the Nick Johnston, and why. Thanks

I would still choose the NJ .. both guitars plays almost the same.. just different pickups and sounds✌️❤️

Maybe:), but no ss frets disqualifies it.
@jorgemlcosta3 жыл бұрын
I have a small Suhr collection, and I know their catalog very well, sorry I cannot say the same, yet still this Schecter is surely a nice low cost guitar aiming at boutique specs. This competes very well with a Ibanez AZ premium, also MII. The only clear downside in the Schecter is the lack of SS frets and compound radius (14 inch is welcome on higher frets, no so much at lower frets where I mostly play chords).

schecter should pay you for this review

Wow! You make that thing sing! I love the look and sounds of that guitar, but i don't particularly care for the look of pick up covers.

@@JonIsJustTooLoud I may have mentioned that I sprung for the Van Nuys PT after watching your video, and am very pleased with it.

Great playing, are you a little guy and is there a guitar that you do not like to playing.
@JonIsJustTooLoud3 жыл бұрын
I dont understand your question ✌💚
@jessebarrera1593 жыл бұрын
I am a small man at 5’4”, I noticed that you have no problem with reaching for note and chords, is there a type of guitar brand or style that you just don’t enjoy playing?
@JonIsJustTooLoud3 жыл бұрын
@@jessebarrera159 Ok Jesse...my height is 5'9" And least favorite? There are no particular Brands or models..I just don't like to play on a poorly setup guitar.

So your saying it don’t stay in tune because the nut ain’t right
@JonIsJustTooLoud3 жыл бұрын
Most guitars with trem system will always have problems with tuning.. big or small. It’s just the way i play.. of this guitar is mine, I will fix the nut by sanding of the sides of certain strings.. a simple fix
