Neneh (whose father is American) did move to the U.S. (New York I think) when she was about 4 years old, and hasn't really been living in Sweden. She still speaks excellent Swedish though (with a slight U.S accent), and her daughter, singer Mabel was partly raised in Sweden and speaks both fluent English (British) and Swedish like a native Swedish girl.

Only the dead fish follow the stream.

Neneh Cherry (real name Marianne Karlsson) had a Swedish mother and the African musician Ahmadu Jah as parents, the US jazz musician Don Cherry was her stepfather and he's also father to Titiyo and Eagle Eye Cherry❤🇸🇪 Her daughter Mabel is a very succesful singer in the UK now. Neneh Cherry was ahead of her time, a really great person too❤🇸🇪 In her song "Manchild" from the same record you see all her children, including her stepson Marlon Roudette who is a great singer and now also an acclaimed music producer❤🇸🇪

Thanks! Finally a REAL late 80s classic! Me and my classmates were going wild to this one. It was a pretty turbulent time for me, but this song was one of those that made these shitty times a bit easier to get through. Fun fact: Neneh sang and performed with the feminist postpunk band The Slits in the early 80s in The UK and later with Rip Rig + Panic. Hence the awareness and attitude. Also her duett with Youssou N'Dour 'Seven Seconds' is highly recommended, but I think you might know that one already Jonathan? Excited to know 'Banankontakt' is next!

Soooo many 1990+ releases featured it. :) Regarding 1990, that's when Leila K (With Rob n' Raz) released 'Got to Get', which is surely the biggest swedish hit of that year. No running man in that video though afaik. ;)

Don't know if this can be called a "Swedish" classic exactly. The song was produced in the UK and to my knowledge there's no other connections to Sweden except Nenneh Cherry being born here (and she moved at a very young age to the US and later to the UK where the song was made.) It's a good song though. :)

Min rekommendation är att kolla Nenehs video "Buddy X" och sedan megabangern "7 seconds" och, om du blir intresserad gå vidare med vad hon gjorde innan succén (med Rip, rig & panic: "Go!Go!Go! (This is it!)" och det hon gjort efter.
