I have an unsound opening that I chanced upon by accident - the Williams Gambit. There's are traps that opponents fall for about 90% of the time. I used to resign, because it was a mouse slip, but now I play it out with a good record.

Hey Johnathan, I have been playing a gambit I thought you might be interested in covering or just even looking into for fun! The move order is (e4 c6 d4 d5 e5 Bf5 h4 h5 Bg5!) Which looks dubious (and kind of is but is far from losing) but after Qb6 the idea is to play Bd3! You can look into it from there but the idea of the variation is that after Bxd3 Qxd3 Qxb2? You have the crushing move of e6! And you can see the fun yourself, it usually takes stockfish a minute to see that white is better but I thought you'd enjoy looking into it!

I defeated Alex Lenderman. OTB with this Gambit when I was 2257 USCF and Eggsalad computer 3169 in 2007 when I was 2615 on I made USCF master in 83/t o t chess over 50 years. Then horrible accident left me totally disabled. Great game and video thank you!

The final position looks simple but it's actually quite subtle! White wins by triangulating with the rook to produce the same position but with black to move. Other tries don't work, for example Ra1 Kg3 Ra3?! Kf4! (stopping Re3) and white has nothing better than to repeat with Ra1 Kg3. Crazy game!

Yes, Lev Gutman gave the Canal Variation a very extensive analysis in Kaissiber 34 and 35, with additional inputs from the editor Stefan Bücker. They confirmed that the line where Jonathan Schrantz said, "You are kind of just down a pawn" (7...dxc3 8.Bxd5 Be6 9.Bxe4 Qxd1 10.Rxd1 cxb2 11.Bxb2 f6) is the most problematic one for White. 12.Bc3 has scored quite well for White in Lichess games, and I think the rarely played 12.h4, aiming to weaken Black's kingside with h4-h5-h6, also gives White decent hacking chances. But objectively I have little doubt that White doesn't really have enough for the pawn.

I recently had a game where someone played your “new nakhamansan” variation and I wasn’t prepared. I managed the find the Be6 and because he didn’t want to trade queens he just lost a full piece . Similar to other gambits of the opponent is prepared the best you can get is a worst endgame

You have to know your Gambit better than your opponent. It's just that simple. The purpose of most gambits isn't to win quickly like the b e n k o Gamble. The main purpose is to achieve what is called dynamic equality. That is where peace development, positional Harmony, and sustaining ongoing pressure of your opponent's position justifies the sacrifice of material in the present for the purpose of securing positional advantage in the future.

No. A lot of gambits lead to superior endgames. The KG for instance, if you win back the pawn, you often just have a better structure for an endgame. Most gambits are based upon positional principles with an attempt at tactical justification and the most popular ones black is only equal, not better.

@@tommydashed4205 it depends on what level of chess a person is currently playing at. At a level below master, a lot of things can happen where again but is quickly justified. But if you played and defeated over 100 GM as I have over 50 years, you learn that the initiative must be earned.. not stolen.. by solid play. That is why I tell all my students to stick to modern theory.. rather than get them to try the latest tricky openings for white or defenses for black. Again, the difference between regular players in Chess Masters is that.. regular players look at moves while master players look at ideas that tell them what is the best move to play in any given position.

Your original Nakhmanson (I bought your course on Chessable) leads to much better attacking chances for white. And you know those lines backwards. The whole point is to take IM's and GM's out of their play books and comfort zones. When you gambit you definitely don't want an early queen swap.

What is "new" about the "new Nakhmanson gambit"? Max Euwe lists it it as the (not favouravabe for white) "Canal Variant" of the Two Knights' Game" (aka Prussian) in his 1956 collection on chess openings.

@@russell.bishop Yes, that's why I asked. The assessment of variants may change over time, so my wild guess is that someone named Nakhmanson reevaluated the old Canal variant. If you can point me to a video describing the reassessment of the Canal variant and the role of Nakhmanson, I would greatly appreciate it.

Once again Jonathan, I think you're LYING. I don't believe that you beat a 2700+ GM. The reason I think this is because you go into all of this depth that is pretty obvious for anyone over 1000 and you repeat things over and over again with your only possible motive of being: "Antagonize your viewers." We clicked on this link because you said that you would go through the game, but instead, you go through all of these permutations of what could have happened and moves that 'some' people play, but you spend little time on what YOU played and I'm sorry, I just don't buy it, you're not that good at chess.
