Proper flying. Full aircraft the day I flew so we all had to be weighed. ( workers carrying tools & plumbing supplies) Before landing on a taking off from Foula the fire truck drove up & down the runway to scare off the sheep. The Foula sheep are odd looking. If it’s bird breeding season & you going up to the air crash memorial it’s very worth renting a Bonxy stick from the box by the terminal building.

Very cool, that's pretty neat to fly into a community with only a population of 35! And awesome you got to experience the Islander, I'd love to get up in one of these small props some day.

Thanks for posting your short video. Enjoyed it. We did this flight over to Foula in June, 2007 and stayed a couple of days. The BN2 Islander seemed powerful for its size, just what is needed for the challenging flying conditions in and out of Foula. The pilot was former RAF so inspired a lot of confidence. We were impressed the fire truck and crew attend every takeoff and landing. My family lived on Foula for about 1000 years before my GG-Grandfather moved to Lerwick on Shetland Mainland and then my Great Grandfather left for Canada in 1867. Foula is a very atmospheric island with lovely people. It was a pleasure to visit and getting there was half the fun!

Hi, who on earth asked you not to film the take off and landing?. I 'm a Shetlander and I know (some of) the staff at Tingwall have a serious attitude problem with no manners but being told not to film takes that place to a new low.

Hi thanks for your comment. I don't want to name names or point fingers but one of the team at Tingwall. I'd been in communication with them over Facebook weeks in advance regarding my little trip, and rather than quash any fears of a stranger coming up & flying to Foula & back just wanting to ''film his experience'' I was met with a hostile response from the start. To add to matters I was told I could not sit near the front as I had unticked the box which asks if you have had both vaccine doses.. Being honest I left that box unticked as I was still awaiting my 2cnd Pfizer jab (which was booked for 1 week after I took this flight). The lady seemingly then assumed I was unvaccinated and told me I wold be sitting at the rear of the aircraft there & back. I was bewildered as those tourists also on the flight were filming freely on their phones whilst I'd been told explicitly NOT to film the landing or takeoff. It was so dissapointing. Still one of the kind Gents at the airport organised a taxi to Lerwick which speeded up my return back to Sumburgh. Still an amazing flight/experience, but handled very poorly by one particular member of staff who seems to have had it in for me from the moment I arrived. The irony of the whole thing hit me when watching the safety video in the little room where Air Task Encourage you to take photos of your whole journey. At that point I knew it was because I'd messaged and explained my plans, and the fact I had a KZbin channel and I would be filming my flight experience which is why I was told what I was.

@@JonathanWinton123 This is disgusting but sadly I'm not surprised. You mention Facebook and I notice that their posts and updates are always extremely blunt and unfriendly. Even when flights are cancelled due to weather they don't even offer a token apology. Unfortunately, it sounds as if you were victimised for no good reason. I hope you'll make a return trip to Foula or even one of the other inter-islands but just book your trip and avoid any unnecessary interaction with them!. btw, the pilots are fab though!.

@@Trollberg60north Definitely, you're absolutely right and I'll be doing that for any future visits. You see what you mention about the Facebook posts, I misinterpreted their posting and 'being open' as appearing to be quite open & friendly. It was disappointing to find the attitude in person was quite the opposite. When I asked the lady why she was charging me for an adult fare and not a 'Youth' fare (which my age-qualified me for) she rolled her eyes and uttered some remark before then checking my passport a 2cnd time. I'd looked everything up in advance and brought the exact amount I needed for the flight. It was just another thing that otherwise could have been dealt with very differently, and something so trivial that I feel bad mentioning it. I'm hoping to be back up in Shetland next year at some point to do some more planespotting. You are so lucky to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. It's an amazing place, and the people are so friendly overall.

I take it with the population being so small, you all meet up now and then?! What a lovely place to live tho.
