Nah, unless he had another pair of $1500 skates laying around, I'd say he was out for a few weeks waiting on new boots. Looked it it damaged the boot itself during the break.

My blades have come off my boots numerous times! It happens! The leather in the sole gets wet and soft after a while. It happened to me in an ice show contract in the Far East, and I had no way of getting new boots. The blades wouldn't go back on with screws, so my Russian friend had to bolt the blade back on for me lol (not recommended, but needs must! Lol 😂). We apply such a huge amount of force on the boot/blade when we jump.

Looked like the mounting failed, but it's hard to say for sure. a bad mount, worn out/wet sole, loose/failing hardware, or any combination could cause that.
