Just coming back to skating after a 12 year break. Your videos are amazing. It's great to see so much analysis of the process. Most other skate videos are being made by guys who have been doing these things so long they say things like "all you gotta do is commit", but they don't remember how they learned it themselves.

Many thanks for the kind words! yeah coming into skateboarding as a beginner I found a lot of the pro trick tips were amazing to watch with great style, but often you only really get to see how the trick looks? I’m one of those people that needs to understand every part in order to learn it? When I record the videos I’ve never done the trick before so each component part is really fresh in my mind. I think with repetition over time all the parts become one autonomous movement. At that point I’m sure it’ll feel like the only thing in the mind is to commit?!!

Watched a lot of videos on how to Rock to Fakie and could never get over the mental block to rock back in. The way you described pushing the front foot and keeping weight in the ramp is what I needed! Finally landed a Rock to Fakie and a rock n roll! Thank you!!!

Great stuff! Glad it worked out! I find rocks tricky !!

Very grateful for these videos, the way you explain maps very well to the way I think, so this is a very effective way to progress, thank you!

Man that was scary. If you didnt have those wrist guards that hand would probably be broken. How are you supposed to bail/fall when you get pitched forward?

Looking back at your 'earlier work' for inspiration. Thoroughly love the commitment and utter disregard for falling. Still an inspiration. BTW really like the 'ten phases of..' videos.

Great video. I would add just one additional tip of my own. If you keep your eyes looking to the coping when you are just about to clear the back wheels it helps to keep the body weight were it needs to be. It also gives more confidence because you see what is happening with your back truck and wheels at all times.

That’s great dude, yeah I agree. I’ve just recorded an update to this video. I feel I have finally got them !!

Thanks a lot for this video. Going to try to do the same tomorrow. Wanting to do the roll-in already for a long time, but never had the guts. In the way you build it up, might be a success tomorrow :)
@JonBishopSkate5 жыл бұрын
Rob daPraia ha, go for it Rob!! I think I successfully demonstrate the worst that can happen!! If you can clear the back wheels for a Fakie Rock then you can do the roll In was my thinking, but I learned the hard way you need to manual the front wheels over first lol !!
@robdapraia34865 жыл бұрын
@@JonBishopSkate Yes! Success. The first time rolling-in was very scary, but next times were easy. Tomorrow will try to do fakie roll-in. Then will do a roll-in starting with a little bit more speed parallel to the coping and then manual/turn into the bowl
@JonBishopSkate5 жыл бұрын
Rob daPraia great stuff!! Yes, for me the binary nature of it makes it scary, sort of like learning the drop in? Not too technically hard, but the ramifications of getting it wrong brings on the physiological aspect!!
@leprettytrendy59183 жыл бұрын
I love how you explain things. I have to try this. I know how to do a rock to fakie but I wanna go farther on the copping with my board. A the fakie rock scared me everytime. But I thing thoses steps will help me get better. I’ll be so proud if I can roll in. At some point I thought I’ll never learn that trick cause when K see people acid drop it looks so scary 😣
@JonBishopSkate3 жыл бұрын
This is the update on that video. It has more detail and most importantly how to clear the back wheels to stop the hang up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKKrZ4OtbdZkb7M

Great vids - you learn so quickly.
@JonBishopSkate5 жыл бұрын
Family Fun many thanks for tuning in. TBH there seems to be some advantage for me in having to talk through the mental process as I go. I’m sure this is similar to the internal conversations many have when trying to learn a new trick, but for me having to articulate the ideas seems to cement the learning? A friend I skate with pretty much gets everything within 3 tries? Often first go? He just watches the move and does it? But he can’t really explain what he’s doing so the polar opposite , proves we are all different and there are many valid approaches?!!
@familyfun63975 жыл бұрын
@@JonBishopSkate The commentary is great. There is a lot of trick tips out there by people who learnt a when they were kids and can't really explain what their body needs to do to execute the trick. Age has made me really nerdy in the learning process, I love to break things down into sections and tackle bite sized chunks and try to get perfect form. I was a late starter at 41, 4 years later and I'm still rolling a couple of times a week trying to keep up with people half my age!! I also run a skate club for kids, so always looking for new ways to teach kids new stuff. I look forward to your next video.

You seem like a natural! Nicely made vids. Lots of fun because I just got my first rock to fakies and rock n' rolls, so I'm eyeing these lip tricks with the goal of using them in bowl riding. keep up the funk!
@JonBishopSkate5 жыл бұрын
Ben Nice one Ben, yes my goal is the same, to learn these on a mini and then work up to the bowl. I find the step up from 3 to 4 ft or so to the bigger sections or tighter transitions makes it noticeably more tricky! but a manageable size seems the obvious place to start ?
@Ben-kg7fd5 жыл бұрын
@@JonBishopSkate Absolutely the best place to start. I think moving to bigger and steeper stuff is more fear factor than anything. Our brain doesn't seem to like falling backwards or from high places, fancy that!

Joshua Flippence it’d be ace to see your Prevail bowl progress, I find it’s a bit of a tricky one with the slippage etc, I recon if you can do stuff in there, you are good to go on the Crete ??

Haven’t seen rails on a board since the late 80s. Does it make it easer
@JonBishopSkate4 жыл бұрын
Hey dude, adds a little less friction for slides, a little less wear on the graphic, feels good for grabs, downside is it adds weight. I think they have made a bit of a comeback lately, but it’s all personal preference!
@jayson19794 жыл бұрын
Jon Bishop I remember having them on my board in the skate park in the late 80s . Getting back into the mini ramp again
@derekarmstrong14084 жыл бұрын
For me, I have had them on almost every board over the years, and I think they help me stay more stable on anything over the coping. Also, that extra 1/2 inch seems to help with not hanging up. I have never even tried flip tricks, so the weight is not a factor for me.

why did you voiceover the words you’re saying in person
@JonBishopSkate4 жыл бұрын
Zach hi, I use a Rode directional microphone which helps to isolate the sound it’s pointed at. It just makes the speech more clear to hear than the built in microphone? There is no re-recording or voice over done for these vids? It’s all as it is live warts and all?? Being a pro musician I’m keen to experiment with the production values, but overdubbing would be a step further than I’m willing to go at this stage as the Rode mic works well. Cheers for tuning in.
