I do love your attitude with regard to negative comments. The way I look at it you are just sharing your journey, you've never claimed to be the best at anything but you are always both entertaining and informative and your models always look the part. To those that do give you any criticism, I'd say where are your videos on how to do things 'properly'? I guarantee for the most part they don't have any and just derive pleasure from their meaningless heckling. You just keep doing what you do, cos you are doing it right :-)

Right there with you, Jon. I'm guessing we are about the same age, so much of what you said rings true to me. I've got a good job, but I've had it a while and recent changes have made it no longer much if any fun at all. My daughter tried to get me to start streaming building, but that's not me, either. I take my time, listen to my tunes, etc. I do it for me. Keep on keepin' on, fellow old guy!

I agree with you, Jon; modeling is for fun and relaxation. I make a solid effort to model every day as it is also a stress reducer for me. I am glad to see you back, and I enjoyed this video. I appreciate your videos because I learn from them, and I get the sense that we are just working on models and talking about things. I like that.

Hi Jon, I think you are making a good decision. Chasing the Tubes of You algorithms is very difficult; better this, better that; always chasing that elusive subscriber so KZbin generates more advertising revenue. Personally for me, I think the information you provide is great content for beginners and experienced modelers alike. You have a great sense of humor, I often chuckle when I am watching your videos ( especially when discussing Special Hobbies Kits ). There is so much information in your videos, they worth a second (or even third) viewing. My wife and I watch Groundhog day every other year. It is so much fun, one of Bill Murray's best in my opinion. We now watch to see if we can find more continuity issues ;-) In closing I would like to say a thank you Jon for the information you freely give to me and the modeling community. Please keep at it my friend.

Thank you so much for your kindness and encouragement John! Quite honestly when I do a video, I try to picture a few folks, and imagine if I was saying it to just them. You are now in that group in that little place in my head. (Scary a place as it is!) And I do need to remember Special Hobby from time to time. Friends don't let friend do Special Hobby. 🤣 Happy day to you friend - enjoy the movie!

Hah. I have a primed black Warglaive sitting on my monitor stand right now. I think it's been there a full year, staring at me. So this hit home. A little food for thought: I too have a pretty technical job, and while every day is a new fire to put out, when you're wracking your brain with analytical problems 40-50 hours a week, you need a cognitive break. Your brain needs to let that cool down and exercise the other side of the brain. Painting, colors, emotional stuff, exercise. The fact that Warhammer models are indeed a lot easier to build than most other kits (not to mention more durable) helps not make it another analytical problem. You can just lose yourself in watching the colors come off the brush, seeing how the model takes form and shape. Becomes more than just a hunk of plastic. Most of all, like you said, you need to enjoy the process, not the end result. Also, don't let the drive for completion ruin the process. A lot of people lose the fun of modeling because they 'have' to finish something. Being the kind of person who can paint for a few hours, not finish, and still feel good about it, is a good thing. I've had to convince myself that not finishing creative problems is not bad. I just needed sort out a better way to pack up partially completed projects and set them aside. As for not being good at youtube or whatever else, what I learned is I could do most anything, if I really wanted. But each requires a certain level of effort in specific skills, and at the end of the day, I only have so many hours to spend on new skills. And some of those I'm just really not interested in spending time on, so don't feel bad if you just don't enjoy the things that are needed to be good at youtube or whatever else. It comes natural to some people, others it's a chore. Like you said, don't eat your life up in doing things that aren't fun. PS: By the way, seems like the right channel audio is out in the video?

It's 20:25 here is Lincolnshire, UK and I'm still watching your videos. What you say here is so true. I battle those Eavy Metal Vs Grimdark voices on my shoulders. Relaxed to Grimdark is what I can achieve but that box art is sweet. However with older eyes and creeky hands, it's not attainable. So I have to remind myself to go the Bob Ross way, which is a good quality. Good evening/night :)

Got to say I love you videos with your "ramblings." I often watch these videos in my office while I'm working on the computer and I really like to hear your thoughts on modeling as a hobby. Sometimes your coaching is just as important as your instructions. I have learned a lot from you videos, especially the Star Wars. I do mostly military modeling, but still apply a lot of what you go over. I would like to see you a do a military model if you ever get around to it again. I don't paint any warhammer, but I still don't miss a video.
@JonBius

Thank you so much for such a kind and encouraging reply! I am so happy to know you enjoy the videos. For now I'm sticking to Warhammer, as I'm having so much fun with it. Plus it seems to be a great basis for techniques that apply anywhere. Be sure and catch my upcoming series which will be about the Ork Flyer - it will be several episodes of technique based stuff that will work on anything. As to getting around to doing a traditional military model... five years ago I'd have never thought I'd be building scifi and Warhammer! So you never know where the journey will lead... :D Thanks again for watching and commenting! Happy day to you friend. 😊

Of all the content creators on KZbin or anywhere else, you're the one I identify with the most, Jon. I played one season of football in high school my freshman year and that was too much for me. Competitive is one thing- but the pressure and stress and expectations from coaching staff... It was some of the worst experiences I've made it through. I had to tell myself in basic training at Ft Benning "hey, you can do this, you survived that whole season of high school football and never quit" if that puts a perspective on it haha who knew it'd be easier to get through the Army? But anyway - you talk too long and I type too much 😂😅 all of this to say I really feel you on this commentary. I had to learn this lesson that I'm never going to turn this hobby into a side hustle, let alone a real "job" but I am very glad I don't have to, I can support myself and my family paycheck to paycheck and I can just dive into something I enjoy regardless of how bad it tanks my algorithm. But my Ma.K Ammoknight build was some of the best hobbying I've done in a long time in terms of the fun and the satisfaction and I think it really showed in how quickly I was able to put it together, paint and weather it, display it, etc. It was a true passion project and probably the first time I purposely grabbed a kit off the shelf to build for 100% just me. Glad you're rediscovering the ability to get truly lost in the fun and even accidentally wander off camera 😂 take care Jon!
