Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup kzbin.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Everyone commenting on Jon B's "highstick" should realize it's mostly on the dude coaching him. Jon kept asking him for advice because it was new to him. Guy should have realized when he asked for repeated advice on setting the hook that he was out of his element. If most anglers are honest, we've been there at some point when trying a new combo or new to us species. Just not on camera with a pretty expensive rod.....

Not really the rod's fault. The heaviest they make is a 20-50lb which that one probably was and he's fishing 100lb on a reel with a ridiculous amount of drag.

@don cherry Spot on. I actually had this issue happen to me today (The base piece connection split on both sides, in the margins on a very powerful rod and I wasn't high sticking or doing anything mad), sometimes you just get way bigger a fish than you anticipated, with the drag set a bit too high, in the wrong situation.

I really like this rod kzbin.infoUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend I fished with it and like it enough I bought a second rod. I am not a professional fisherman but I fish a lot and this rod holds up to any other rod I have ever owned. I very much like the option of interchangeable tips. Not so much because of the action, although a very nice reason, but because I have broken a lot of tips and guides in the past. This allows me to put a new end on and keep fishing. I am considering trying the spinning rod next.

as you lose line the drag pressure will increase because of the decreasing spool diameter. something to always consider when fighting large fish that will have a lot of line stretched out
@chickenpotpie4045

@Camo Dude I'll be honest when I say that I know nothing about them, I've never owned one. I didn't even get to finish watching the video last night so I don't even know what he snagged into that was pulling that hard. I'd imagine it was a shark or a ray. I bought a new Team Lew's Custom Black baitcaster combo last night for $250 and it's sick so far. I live near Pittsburgh, PA so I only got to use it for an hour or so because it's freezing here, but it's going to be badass when summer comes around. I cringed at spending that much, I couldn't imagine dropping $700 on JUST the rod, but I'm sure charter boat captains and hardcore saltwater fisherman wouldn't mind spending that much. It's more of an investment...lol
