Yes there are similar elements between Run and earlier work by The Weeknd, but there isn't much stuff like this put out by artists today. Joji also sounds much more confident in his voice and it shows very strongly in this new song

@Rachel Supercinski The music videos are, this might be a tease for an upcoming album telling the story from trying things new in a relationship(sanctuary) to seeing the person you used to love be with someone else while your all alone running from the darkness(Run). Joji has always been a storyteller with his music, an example being In Tongues a project done by JOJI that has the themes of being tied to something while being suffocated with each song having the sound of chains in the background and the muffled voice of someone trying to talk underwater or you yourself being underwater while another person is trying to communicate on the surface.

I love Joji songs since BALLADS 1. But here we see improvement on Joji's voice techniques. "Run" is already a classic (mostly because of the melody and this amazing guitar). Joji's voice warm the heart and this guitar penetrate our bones. Beauty.

Kinda sucks that you have to pause every once in a while to avoid a DMCA takedown. I was particularly curious to hear your thoughts on this track, since it's quite funky / rocking too.
