** I mistakenly stated that the bars have a 30 degree back sweep when actually it is 45 degrees. A big difference so I just wanted to correct that mistake. Cheers

It feels like I've been riding with the Jones bar forever, but it has only been 8 years. The first bike I put them on was my 2016 Trek Stache with 29x3 tires. My typical routes contain pavement, dirt roads, technical single track, and sand. I never once felt limited by the Jones bar. However, I have to say that cornering on single-track took a little getting used to. I love the Jones bar so much that I also put one on my titanium singlespeed. When I'm cruising, my hands typically rest over the welds; when I'm laying down some power, I grasp the sides of the loop section; and when climbing and descending, my hands are on the grips. The ability to make big changes in hand position has been a game-changer for me. The only disappointment I have is with the Jones bag that fits inside the loop. It's definitely a quality bag and it fits perfectly in the loop, but I can't access it unless I take my cycling computer off its mount. The tight fit of the bag within the loop somewhat limits some of my hand positions as well. I found that a burrito bag works better for me.

Hi Mike. i agree, I have only been using the Jones bars for a few years now but they feel like second nature to me now. I agree that it also took me some time to get use them on single track especially cornering but now i feel weird when I ride a bike with regular flat bars lol. Yes I have two loop bags and really like them but with all my stuff on the bars it's almost impossible to get into the bag without removing electronics etc. I unfortunately only have one bike at the moment but I will be putting Jones bars on all touring bikes going forward. Thanks for watching and your awesome comment. Safe travels.

It’s interesting to hear your experience. I have several bikes-some with flat bars, one with a few degrees sweep one with klunker bars (45 degree sweep) and one with albatross and 60 degree sweep. These Jones bars came on a new Jones LWB I purchased and are the only bars that hurt my wrists. Over the years I’ve never had wrist pain with any other bars and don’t with the variety I’m riding now. I just can’t figure out why. I was using the kraton long grips that came with the bike and just switched to Ergon GC1 to see if that helps. Before doing that I tried them angled 5, 10 and 15 degrees down from level as well as level and just a couple of degrees above level. Have also moved the spacers around on the headset without success. Can’t figure out why I’m having such a different experience from everyone else on Jones Bike/bar.

Great video. I also bought the jones bar and love it. I also added a suspension stem which works great on the jones bar.
@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures
@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures 8 ай бұрын
Hello Feliz. Thanks for taking the time to watch! I would love to use a suspension stem but unfortunately my research finds that the shortest length stem is 80mm and I need to use a 60mm at the very least. But the main reason I haven't went that route is that both Redshift and Cane Creek do not recommend them for sweep back bars. I have no doubt there is some benefits even with a Jones bar but myself I'd rather not use something that is not performing to 100% of it's potential especially since they are not cheap. I would be interested in hearing your long term thoughts on the stem if you think about it down the road. Thanks for the input very much appreciated. Cheers

I was considering the Jones H bar as well as the Moloko bar…but ended up with the Koga-Denham bar, as I wanted to continue to use my Ortleib ultimate 6 handlebar bag, and both of the other bars wouldn’t accommodate. The Denham bar has a swept hand position and horns for a more forward position for long days in the saddle and foe climbing. That said, I ended up with a Mokolo bar as well because I bought a Surly ECR, which had one as well as a flat bar. Overall the Denham bar is quite comfortable, especially with the Ergon GC1 grips.

I started to use a butterfly bar this past summer for touring. 2400km East coast. It took a bit of getting used to as far a steering goes. You can change the angle and get get more upright. I had drop bars before on my Miyata 1000 touring bike. After a couple weeks on the road I would start getting back and neck pain.

Wide flat bars with minimal rise and backsweep are IMHO painful and useless for most people, unless you’re doing some real hardcore mtb riding. 680mm should be the maximum handlebar width on a new ”average” bike and if you need something wider, you buy the handlebar you need. A bit wider drop bar is the most comfortable one for my body and wrists, but I however purchased a Surly corner bar clone from Ali. I’m also thinking about buying that Jones bar. I have several bikes and it would cost way too much to have drop bars on all of those. I just wish these alt bars wouldn’t be so heavy and sometimes expensive 😅

I have the Jones H bar loop on order and it should be here tomorrow. Quite excited to give it a try. I did order the custom bag that goes in the loop but I appreciate your comments about how your various camera phone mounts interfered with the use of it. Have you tried mounting extra water bottle bags or feed bags in the loop section? I’m wondering if that might provide me some storage while allowing my phone to be mounted over the top of them as you’s seems to be mounted in this video. I’m also wondering about the foam handlebar grips. I currently have the Ergon grips on my fat bike, which is where this bar is going, and I suspect I won’t be able to use them with the back sweep on the H bar.

We ought to have a buffet model to choose a handlebar than having to dispose off the stock handlebar. Same goes with shifters, seats.

Great review. I'm looking at these for my Trek Farley. I think CF vs. aluminum is about more than weight. Carbon is .ore compliant and absorbs chatter and buzz feedback. Basically it's more comfortable. Is it $200 more.comfotsble? I dunno. But I wouldn't dismiss it -- I'll be considering it.
@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures
@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures 11 ай бұрын
Hi Fred. Yes carbon does have the benefits you mentioned. But when you start clamping things to your bars like camera mounts etc it does have a affect on those attributes. I have always used carbon bars but I do not thing in this situation that the $200 is worth it. I use a carbon seat post and most importantly I have really good carbon rims which is definitely the best use of carbon on a bike for performance if one can afford it. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video. Cheers

What modifications to gear shifts and brake levers are needed in going to the Jones H Bar? I have an over 20 year old Trek 4300 with stock Shimano handlebar and brake/shift clusters. Hi Mark. The only thing that may need to be done is to shorten or lengthen the cables. It's really no different than setting up other bars. Keep in mind that these bars are designed for comfort and for a more upright riding position so having a saddle made for a upright riding position is very important if you are riding long distances. I hope they work out for you. Thanks for watching. Cheers

Glad I watched your video. Definitely don’t want the jones bar now from what I saw. You have it set to have only one or two hand positions. I definitely need more than that. Also, if your position works for you, all the power to you, but needing to shorten your stem to 60mm when you already have a bar with quite a bit backsweep has me think you need a different size bike, not stem.
@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures
@WanderingEyeOutdoorAdventures Жыл бұрын
The bars have more than two hand positions if you want. I'm sure you watched other videos and saw that. My bike size is fine. The reason for the shorter stem has to do with injuries from two pretty bad accidents. Therefore I need to be able to sit pretty much straight up for stretches to elevate pain. After many hours on the bike I can say this setup works for me and that's all that matters. Been working as mechanic at a bike shop for over 20 years now so I'm pretty aware of proper bike setup. Cheers
