We usually dont silence the alarm till we found the problem. Some of the occupants that are outside seem to wanna walk back in once its silenced.

yikes. the fire department has to clear the area of fires and safety issues before allowing anyone to be able to go back in where i live. as an emt, seeing airway burns from inhaling smoke are really scary stuff, so safety is always first.

Yes this video is for technicians not for people in the event of a fire.. if there is a fire you always wait for the fire department to arrive and they will silence your panel. It is actually illegal to interfere in the event of a real fire!

If you wanna conduct monthly fire drills, can you either turn the fire alarms on using the panel or do you have to hit a pull station? I’ve done many monthly fire drills for my house and I don’t have a fire alarm system so that’s why I ask

Usually they program a drill switch. The drill switch will activate notification devices. Without shutting down ancillary devices i.e. roof top units, elevator recall. Smoke dampers . Etc. Also will be programmed to not trip masterbox or dact

consider that simplex is proprietary and if you need service, only simplex people can work on it. We are changing all of our systems to another manufacture so we can make our own changes and not have to pay 200 dollars an hour for a tech.

You don’t have to be scared, the fire department will only be contacted if a fire alarm is pulled, so doing anything to the panel won’t do anything

Is there a way to lower the alarm beep when it's just a "faulty ground line"? I live in an apartment complex that uses these and it shares a wall with my apartment. It happens way too much. I know there is no way to permanently disable it but it's been 5 years of dealing with it and I'm tired. Is there anything that can be done?

If your landlord won’t deal with it you can request he at least hire a technician to disable the ground fault detection. You cannot do this yourself.

This theory class is for people that works for a company or a school setting in need to know what to do in an emergency fire alarm situation. For example, if there is a trouble or an alarm in the panel, a person with authority and has gone through this training, will be the first responder. There should be a primary telephone line near the FACP that will ring. Or whatever primary emergency phone line is on record. The first thing people should do when a fire alarm goes off is to evacuate the building following company procedures.

What year did he do this cuz this is wrong. The first thing you do is acknowledge the fire. You do not silence the alarm until the fire department gets there and the chief tells you to silence it. That is what is taught to a fire safety director.

Piggy back from another device, add a module and a module number to the new device, run the wire back to the panel and then added to the programming of the panel. You should be able to add or delete modules in this panel.

My friend's university has quite a few Simplex 4100ES systems around the campus. There are also some 4100, 4100U and 4020 systems, along with a 4120, a 4010 and even a 4002 (I think) in the mix.

Update: The 4002 was replaced a few years back with a Simplex 4007ES, and they also replaced two of the 4100 systems with 4100ES systems as well.

Call for service. Basically the company that inspect and test your fire panel yearly. Sometimes company pays extra for a warranty or service on these panels just in case something happen to the panel or for troubleshooting. If there is no warranty, shop around for service prices.

A zone is used for non-addressable initiating devices like smoke detectors or pull stations or in smoke evac in larger buildings is broken up into zones. Addressable devices give you the exact location of the alarm. A zone only gives you a general location.
