It was a happy place in 1974 -1977 before Jones arrived. This group literally built this community from the ground up. It was a wonderful dream that turned to a nightmare. I believe it grabs most of us because we so wished it worked. Even typing this, I am tearing up. All ethnic groups and all ages getting along. Our history in the U.S. would have never allowed this to work. ☹️ Division and dividing are the ways it will always be because if we actually discovered that we were more alike than different, we could be amazing. But then our capitalist society couldn’t make money from similarities.

True it wasn't as bad before Jones came and then brought everyone there to make it way overcrowded. Still these smiles are obviously acting for the camera. They were all still under Jones' evil grip even if he wasn't there yet.

This group were the pioneers. The food they had was what they commonly are until Jones overinflated the population by another 700 people. This group were there for 2 years building the place, then the next lot came in droves, as soon as Jones got his hands on the cash from their sold homes and property. The deal was Jonestown was a one way ticket and made sure nobody would have any reason or thing to return to the US for.

They were all doomed once they were in Jonestown. They were so used to acting for the camera in CA. His “healings” were the first signs of deception in IN. Sadly, majority of his congregation had been with him 10 - 20 years. This movement started as a social and racial equality group.
@echoes18916 жыл бұрын
Why do think so? From all I've read people enjoyed living there before Jim Jones and hundreds of others arrived.
@CR-wo6fi6 жыл бұрын
@@echoes1891 Yes, you are correct. Prior to Jones's arrival in the summer of 1977, it was a happy mission project. But once he arrived, his paranoia from drugs and his "inner circle" carried out his sick wishes. Honestly, he gave up all hope of living because he couldn't leave Jonestown due to the New West article, the custody battle and the lawsuits. But even in CA, they were used to portraying a happy existence in front of the cameras. There was a "public" and "private" face of the Peoples Temple.
@echoes18916 жыл бұрын
Yes of course, but I don't think the happy faces here are that "forced", as we see amongst others members of the Touchette and George families enjoy a good meal.
