Jones doesn't want Stanley in groups with anyone because he was not afraid of Jones. Jones failed to brainwash him or manipulate. Jones seen this firsthand when Stanley got taken in middle of public meeting to beat him and threaten his life. Stanley didn't care in fact said go ahead. Jones then told him if he came back to meeting and acted frightened and begged for mercy, Jones would lighten his discipline. Stanley conceded. Jones knew the discipline seen by other members was key to keeping them in fear thus making them do what he wanted. I believe Stanley's strong will helped him survive!

This habit carried on even to the final tape. My guess is that they knew they had to act like everything he said was gospel. Otherwise he'd descend into a rage. He has been documented getting angry at people falling asleep, as they should be after working all day and then having to listen to him until way past midnight, during those meetings. He was absolutely insane.

He literally and figuratively threw the Bible out during one of his sermons. He told his congregation that religion and God are bullshit and was merely a means to an end for him. As he blasphemed the church erupted in applause, cheers, and shouts and hoots of approval. They were totally unable to think for themselves.

I think has something to do with the tape. Perhaps both sides of the tape had been used for recordings, and this is what causes this ghostly background noise; the other side of the tape is playing in a distorted way

The tapes were reused over and over they originally had music on them, that a member had recorded so they had music to listen to in Jonestown there were a couple hundred of them, when the tapes were shipped Jones took them. They recorded everything, you can hear ghosting of the previous recording on the tape. A lot were recordings of the radio and telephone communications.

The noise is on there because a; Ghosting, they have re-used the tapes multiple times, they recorded all their radio communications so when they decided to re-use the tape to record Jones some of those previous recordings bleed through. B, the radio shack was right beside the pavilion and radio traffic sometimes interfered with the sound system in the pavilion and may have been picked up that way.

not LSD, but he was on drugs, drugs from those that came to Jonestown, he was taking prescription drugs from his sick and older followers. Like Vicodin, Oxycodone, valium and so on. He was taking everything. But he was also drinking while he was there, he had his own refrigerator in his cabin that was stocked with food and beer.
