Thanks for continuing on, always good to see how the game progresses later on! Also, the thought processes you explain are super helpful, great job :)

Great video. Around the 25:00 min mark the blue player went over the merchant/navy/extort line but you didn't trigger any of that stuff after their rather involved turn. I can see that action being forgotten regularly, as it triggers at the beginning of a turn, but is not carried out until the end of the turn. I guess it depends on how astute your competition is, as they should really be watching for it, as it's their chance to "catch" you with the navy.

Good catch! I had a sneaking feeling that I missed one of those but didn't spot this while editing. Thanks for pointing it out, I've added a note to the Klingon subtitles.

One day you will win a game again, Jon. Haha. Great play through. I backed as soon as I finished watching.

This is a Very Thinky game! It’s going to take a little time to wrap ones head around it, but definitely interesting! The only negative I would say is nothing bad happens when the navy boat attacks
@GettingGames4 жыл бұрын
I was abit surprised by that too, thought I suppose this keeps the game from stalling out (for instance if the Navy stole resources).

Thanks for playing this all the way through. It showed me a lot more about the feel of the game than any overview. Also, switching mindsets for different gameplay possibilities; major props and very helpful!

A fascinating watch! Many thanks for making it. I've ordered the game as a late backer. Can't wait to play it.

30:00 do the "cannons" work for defence? Because if ithey do then the green player could have reach the 4 attack value
@GettingGames4 жыл бұрын
If you are referring to the "sure-fire" tokens at the top of the player mat, those let you change a die face but don't give a hit by themselves.
@xandermichael784 жыл бұрын
@@GettingGames I think he's referring to the deck hand on the cannon assignment. Could you use that in defence to the attack? Because then he would have tied if he used the sure fire token to turn the other die into a 4

I had the same question.
@albertocontu52424 жыл бұрын
@@xandermichael78 yes exactly, I was referring to the deck hand

Ah crap, yeah it looks like I missed that while editing AND while reading your original comment. You are correct, that should go towards defense. I'll make a note in the Klingon subtitles. Sorry about that!

Very good explanation of the game. Looking forward to diving in to it. The only error I saw was that the Exchange action allows the player to choose the specific resource cube they want from the bag. Of course, I may have read the rule incorrectly. Thanks!
@GettingGames3 жыл бұрын
Huh, it's possible the rule also changed since I made this.

At about 18:48, the recently defeated orange merchant is moved to the port "furthest from the ship that defeated", and you moved it to the lower left. But actually, the two ports were equidistant, which can happen any time you fight a merchant on the diagonal. Does the previous player decide which of the two locations to send the ship, or the current player, or someone else?

Awesome video!! Not knowing the rules, I think that I can play the game after watching your video. I think I picked up a mistake though... At minute 23, the Blue player moves quite far, picks up a crew, but after that, the Merchants and Navy ships should have moved. Or, was it because the Blue player had a mutiny that stopped that action?
@GettingGames4 жыл бұрын
You are correct, that was a mistake on my part. It was pointed out earlier as well and I put a note about it in the Klingon subtitles.

Thank you for another great playthrough. I backed this one. Jon, at 18:45, you moved the merchant ship to the furthest port from you but the two ports appear to be equidistant. How do you determine which one in that case?
@GettingGames4 жыл бұрын
If it's equidistant then the active player decides which it goes to.

A very different game than Zombies for sure. But I'm very surprised at how well this runs and interested in adding this and Zombies to the collection in the near future

I can't believe how solidly this blows away sea of nadia for me. the resource pulls seem to dictate the game end strongly, but the gameplay is really sandboxy and solid for a small box game.

In the Man vs Meeple preview they mentioned that if the navy catches you you lose all of your resources as well as deck hands. Can you confirm that?
@GettingGames4 жыл бұрын
The publisher watched my videos before I finished them and they didn't mention anything about losing cargo to the navy ship. I also don't see anything about that in the rulebook I was provided. To the best of my current knowledge I played it correctly.

You do not lose your cargo.

Looking at the trading board which has the merchant ships underneath, it looks like the merchant ships have a sail value of 2. Is that so?

I mentioned this to the publisher and was told that was an old number, and that they changed the move value to 1.

My, there sure have been a lot of pirate or sailing themed games coming lately. I have yet to see one which even comes close to Merchants and Mauraders, though, which is a shame because that boardgame is far from perfect and I would love to see a more modern game that streamlined it just a little and smoothed it's jankier elements. But most of the ones that come close either simplify too much in my opinion - losing the essential fun of that game - or just are trying something else. Great video as always.
@Cleansweep384 жыл бұрын
Skycroft1000 Have you seen Sir Francis Drake game? It isn’t M&M per say, but to me, it is like a zoom in. You prepare for the voyage by getting crew, cannons, and supplies and then you go out sailing to collect trade goods, battle ships and forts, and collect booty.

Great video as ever but the game seems unfinished to me. The deckhands economy is really weird, the fact you can pull them from the repair section to the action wheel feels so wrong to me. Means there's like no downside to being attacked, even by the Navy. To me it feels the Deckhands should be EITHER a bonus effect OR a skipped wheel action, and if you get forced to repair they should stay there until you hide out. It seems so loose as is. And what's the point of the end game attack? Wow the navy are really angry and willing to scour the map up to 5 squares away, but it doesn't matter because the game is over... I'd also have it so the max gold value is not so close to that needed to bury. It removes any benefit to being a little more efficient. If I've managed to get to 16 gold and bury, I should be in a better position than someone who got to 13 and done so, as the game is the reset equalises that out. Seems a bit weird having gold as a tiebreaker too, given you'd be spending basically all of it on your final action, though I guess bonuses could come into play. I realise none of these design choices are yours, so don't take this as a negative to the video! I would be interested in your thoughts but understand you might not be able to speak freely given your long and healthy relationship with the Tiny Epic games. Thanks for telling me everything I need to know!

This is interesting feedback. I had these same thoughts while working on the project and honestly can't say for sure how they'll work out through more plays.
