Jon seems like the hardest working game board review in the industry...

Again, GREAT review. I really like your format. There`s so much detailed efforts in them (Not sure everyone see them) - Timestamps, quick explanation, never too long, good talk speed too, speeding up a bit the video on resetting the board, anchors to more details, clear intro, conclusion, VERY objective too, etc. Also, I had a some questions coming on my mind and you were answering all along at the same time. This is really high quality. People thinks it`s easy to do review videos. It`s not. Like a famous booty (!) hunter said, "This is the Way". :)

It's great to see that you have noticed all these things I try to cram into my projects :) I'm glad you like the format!

I never comment on videos at all. But this is by far the best board game explanation I’ve seen. I’ll definitely be coming to you for board game explanations. Great work, well done.

I find this method of learning a game SO much more engaging than someone just running through the rules. Great work, Jon. Subbed for sure!

Finally found some time to print and laminate my print and play copy. Borrowed Meeples from Carcassone for four sets of Captain and crew. From Catan, I took sure fire tokens (Black ships) and treasure chests (Settlements). I had four lots of mini dice and luckily I had ten of each for the booty. The ships themselves were the hardest to find. For the four player ships I have borrowed some ships from a game of Buccaneer (old Waddingtons board game). For the merchant ships, I used a couple of Bridges from the Catan Traders and Barbarians expansion. For the Navy ship I just happened to have a small white ship ( I think it was a Kinder surprise toy). Looking forwrd to March 2021 when I get my pledge copy.

Sounds like a fun project, I hope you enjoyed playing with that PnP version :)
@tomsmith1003 жыл бұрын
Corrections: When a merchant ship reaches its port destination you remove the booty cube to the bag (simulating delivery) and take a new one at random from the bag. The hit strength of the merchant ships is the total amount you need to sink it. Not +1. So the 2 hit merchant ships only need 2 hits not 3.

I wish you'd put timestamps in for these issues. It's possible these rules changed between the prototype and the final version.

Hi! I'd say the neutral ships move 2 spaces instead of 1, because the card says "2ø".

I really miss your reviews! Any chance you would be willing to share which pirate game is your favorite? I think I have room for one of them in my collection.

Honestly I don't feel comfortable doing that since the my two recent pirate game videos were both sponsored content and I try to stay as impartial with these games as possible.

Is it just me or are seafaring games getting trending or something? Tiny Epic Pirates, Forgotten Waters, Sea of Nadia, that-one-made-from-the-same-guy-from-Above-and-Below (forgot the name)...

There are alot of them recently. I'm working on Dead Reckoning at the moment, another pirate game that'll be launching in a couple months.

Great video like always. I have some questions. What happens if I can’t get in a hideout ? Do I stay where I am ? And why the white boat could/would still attack me if I have buried 3 treasures ? There isn’t anything that could happen to me since the game is ended for me already.
@JonGetsGames3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it has been too long since I made this video to remember specific answers like these.
@TheAnon26 Жыл бұрын
You dont have to end up in a hideout. It can just be useful if your crew is jostled or if the navy would reach you this turn. If you cant reach it, you simply cant use the order, costing you time and power (since youll be slower and missing an extra hit for the cannoneer.) As for the Navy attacking you in your last turn, youre right. Probably a relic of an earlier build I guess.

Can you enter a map tile with the Navy ship also present without crossing the line on the captain’s wheel? Or does the Navy ship automatically attack any ship entering the tile it is located on?

I think its just too much for our liking. Too many things going on, games like this just won't hit the table as much. The board also, isn't too attractive, other than the colors. All the tiles just look too samey, very unrealistic. The vibrant colors try to make it look better than it really is. 30 min to explain a tiny epic is game is ridiculous. I mean, it seems as if they are on some sort of a race to fit as many things in these tiny epic boxes as they can to make a game as big and complex as they can. Tiny Epic Galaxies was the right direction and so was Tiny Epic defenders. Everything else after that for the most part, was just waaaaay to much. This one sadly won't be getting our pledge. It looks cool but at the end of the day it's just another dust collector. IMO.

That's totally fair that you feel that way - I'm the complete opposite- I always wanted to dive into a Tiny Epic Game....and some of them had themes I really enjoyed (Quest, Dinos) but the mechanics involved just didnt do it for me. Some of them felt way too simplistic while others felt way too complicated. Tiny Epic Pirates has a great theme and I feel the Rondel Mechanic, Pick Up and Deliver Mechanic, and Dice Combat are so well intertwined and a perfect match. The game is super intuitive, turns are crisp and fluid, and it oozes with theme with each aspect properly adding to said theme without feeling plastered on. The legendary status, exchange of booty for gold, then gold for burying treasure is so simple yet so clean and elegant of a dynamic. Plus I really enjoy all of the pieces - and a telltale sign that a game is really well made is when there is hardly any words one writing and yet the symbols make everything clear and precise. I've seen lots of Pirate Games on the market, but this one finally hit that perfect sweet spot of strategic without being garish or way too much stuff for the sake of stuff. It's a game I can get to the table and play with my SO and she'd have a blast. I've wanted a Tiny Epic Game but have never found one that made me pull the trigger I've wanted a Pirate game but also never found one to make me pull the trigger This one was a day one backing for me.
@josephnegron41794 жыл бұрын
A crunchy game that fits in a small space is right up my alley. It also has a solo so it would definitely hit my table. It's okay to not like middle weight games. If you want a light small box game there are plenty others to choose from. At the end of the day it's about fun.
@FalconWing18133 жыл бұрын
You can always create some house rules. Or you can remove the navy ship, merchant ships and you can the deck wheel function as you like. That could easily make things simpler. I have this game now and it looks great in person. Very good build quality.

So...if a player buries 3 treasures, the game is over but the Navy ship gets 5 movement. What's the point if the game is over ? I must have missed something.
@JonGetsGames4 жыл бұрын
Other players may still take turns, and the Navy's position could impact their ability to bury treasure.
@TheSpitfired4 жыл бұрын
Burying a treasure doesn’t necessarily mean the navy is moving. However, if that did happen it might reposition the navy to bring some heavy interference to other player’s plans. Just my guess though.
