The way she actually reenacts what it's like to be inside her brain when she's creating is just insane. She's a genius. People use the alien trope a lot with her, but it really seems here like she's giving a report from the outer reaches of human ability. So on her own level she might as well be a visitor from outer space

She looks fabulous in this hairdo. I wish she'd do a dramatic role in a film before she leaves us.

''Joni Mitchell's own strongest creative impulses come to her in a somewhat unusual way. She deeply believes in a male muse named Art, who lends her his key to what she airily calls "the shrine of creativity." Her relationship with him is easily the most serious and enduring thing in her life. "I feel like I'm married to this guy named Art," she whispers. "I'm responsible to my Art above all else." Art rules, and when he calls, Joni will abruptly leave parties or excuse lovers.'' Time (Magazine) December 16, 1974

What a fascinating way to describe one’s creative process…! Thank you for that, Truth Boy 💛

@@fiddlestix3025 'Art' is probably a demonic spirit being, who passes music to Joni, just like many of the other artists who 'receive' music from another paranormal source.

Even her talking about these different processes is poetry, to me… ☺️ But it makes me think how poorly language can be equipped to analyze and express those processes, and how the clumsiness of words can be bypassed by expressing oneself through poetry, paintings or music… also how much of what we feel and think is so subjective. Even when she talks she uses notions of visual expressions, like colours etc. To me, Joni’s poems, lyrics and music are so often visual experiences; she’s painting glorious pictures with her words and with her music. Everything she does is so uniquely hers and bears the same stamp of the one person, -beautiful, flowing, lighthearted yet deep and often sad… my words are so clumsy right now, for sure; but to me this was an interesting question with interesting answers to ponder. Thank you both for that 🙏

Some of you are too young to get it. (her comment on "A Starry Night" years ago... was cool, just a thought from a concert...and they came out saying, she thinks she is better than Classical Painters!

You will not learn a thing about how to be creative. It's a mystery even to those who are.
