As a Christian teen, it gets challenging trying to hear from God. I honestly don't know where to start or what to do. I have tried just sitting in silence, but then my thoughts take over the silence and I get nothing out of it :') I need God's guidance more than ever in this season of my life with college right around the corner.
@JonJorgensonVideos6 жыл бұрын
I totally feel you. I have tried to adopt the mindset that it's not about what I do or don't get out of it, but it's that fact that i put time into it. It's more of a long game. It's not about hearing something profound every day, but more about learning the discipline of listening to God.

Read the word constantly and ask him to give you a child-like heart. Keep praying all the time. Sometimes you will feel a clear intuitive demand, which constantly calls out to you. And usually signs. Other times it's subtle, and God just wants you to press in more and be patient.

I really needed this reminder. In my recent struggles, I've asked God "why did this situation happen to me? What do you want to teach me from this?" and "I really need you, God. Give me a sign that you're with me in this tough moment". I didn't get the sign I wanted but spending time reading His Word, especially in Psalms, encouraged me. The problem has more to do with my impatience rather than God's presence.

Getting to know God more has really been on my heart this last week and what you said about only being willing to talk to God if I AM ACCOMPLISHING something MYSELF hit me in the face! That's exactly what I do because I like to always be doing something/getting something done, not just sitting somewhere talking. So yeah, I usually do it while I walk, or take a shower, or anytime other than just doing nothing. Thank you for this video Jon! Oh, and I think it just might be a l.i.t.t.l.e to early for the Christmas mug! :)

The first time I was seeking God through it was hard because He was silent, So I tried with all my hear weeping and calling out to Him, I even confess all my sin if I had done something wrong that would make Him not hear my voice, until I brokedown, its when I had done what I could do, I prayed longer than I expected so I just cried and said I dont know you Lord, I want to hear your voice but you silent, but in my mind thr Holy Spirit was leading me to read my bible, and I opened it I see something I didnt see it before when I was a fleshly person, God was speaking through His word to me, its His saying my Word is my voice. Since then I'm consciously aware that the Lord was with me, I just need to have faith to believe on that, so when God change my life that is the moment I began to see what God was doing, He was leading me to people that I never knew were beautiful in His eyes, miracles and healing, I have witness it by my own two eyes, God's power working when I prayed for people. It was awesome 😊 made me love God even more. He's silent just like me sometimes.

Ahhhhhhhh I just came across your channel, that first part hit me so hard. I’m sitting in the gym rn listening to this video, planning on how to set up a morning routine that can involve God and fitness as my gym will be closing soon. I was thinking listening to sermons while stretching or working out in the morning. Then that’s when you said God said “you are absolutely willing to seek me, so long as you’re accomplishing something” *as I’m sitting here working out and seeking God but not actually setting much time aside to just seek God*

When I was a young convert, I really want to hear God's voice literally because some of my brethrens says that they are hearing literally from God. I was really frustrated and demands God to let me hear His voice. That goes for a year then I decided to just do what I had to do as his child. I accepted my Pastors advice to teach in Sunday School and read and study the Bible. It's really amazing because even though God did not talk to me literally, He illuminated within my spirit the things I need to understand and do. I had learned that God speaks to us in different ways even in the OT, He communicates to His people in a different ways.
@woedood31954 жыл бұрын
I've been struggling with hearing God's voice too but I've come to realize that He comes to me in my research and Bible reading time. Which is when I FULLY seek Him and try to learn more about Him; how to properly seek Him, worship Him, fear Him like a real believer is supposed to. And I stumbled upon a verse in my plan that said "I am with you always, even until the end of the age." And I was looking at an article. I don't even remember what the title is but I was scrolling through and I saw that same verse "I am with you always even until the end of the age." And that's when I realized that God speaks to me in reoccuring things. He knows I need confirmation because if I don't, I will overlook it. And as I've come to know and learn how God speaks to me which is through scripture, I've started to dismiss my thoughts that say maybe it's just a coincidence and just take what God has given me and run with it. Especially since I had been praying for God to protect His children in these trying times and to always be with us. God's voice does not have to be audible and that's something I struggle with too. It could be a scripture that had just popped up into you head as you were going to do something or make a big decision. God speaks to us in many ways and it does not have to be big. We just have to be extremely attentive.

I think most, if not all, Christians experience a time when it's seems like Gods not speaking, or hearing us. I think sometimes it's our own fault actually. We are so hurried, or our minds wander, or just a lot other things are taking place. I "practice " His presence a lot...when I think about it I should. There does seem like there are times when God seems silent. It could be we're to hurried, our minds wander, or perhaps we're just distracted. I just talk it over with God. If we just focus on Him, we'll hear him better.

This really helped remind me in all the work and effort, giving up that "precious" time, is a really good gift for Him.

Similarly myself, and reading regularly everyday to devote that time with respect to Him. As you said, it's much easier to study or listen to a podcast while working, as a means of making the most of our time. I suppose somewhere is an idea that the more we desire something here on earth, time, the more we should desire to give it to Him, perhaps as a form of worship?

Thanks Jon for being so open and vulnerable about your struggles, it lets the rest of us know that we are not alone. I've known and walked with God many years and I feel like by this time I should know His voice clearly and there are times in the past where I have clearly experienced Him talking me and even being used to share messages from the Holy Spirit with others, and yet lately I've had some trouble recognizing His voice clearly. I don't doubt for a second that He is there and that He hears me (I seen Him work and the supernatural happen to many times not to), but it's either like He is not speaking to me directly (which I know can't be because He is always talking with us) or simply can't recognize or distinguish it clearly and like you said maybe I have just fallen out of practice of recognizing what He saying and maybe have allowed other things to crowd it out. Anyway thanks for sharing, it lets me know I am not alone in my struggles, when it seems like everybody else either hears God clearly without a problem or not at all.

I’ve noticed I get caught up in everything way too often as well. I tend to complain about my situation, instead of simply quieting my soul and listening. For the past 2 years, I struggled with hearing God. I couldn’t understand why he had shut a door to music ministries, when I thought for certain that’s where He was leading me. Finally, in August, I had to quiet my soul and listen. When I did, my mind wandered to kids ministries, which I knew God was calling me to do, but I would rather be a leader for the music ministry. But in that moment, I felt a push to ask about leading small groups for kids’ church. Initially, I came up with a list of excuses: inadequacy, lack of time, etc. But the calling still persisted. So, I did it. Turns out, the director of kids ministries was praying for leaders, and I was an answer to it. Just goes to show that God’s always working, even if we don’t see it or feel it.

In our youth group we tried to listen to gods voice, and 10 minutes i just thought about nothing, until i saw a specific picture: The last supper, and from the left top corner a black "thing/ink" wanted to spread over the page, until a light came from jesus to defeat it. And after all that, the group sat together and we all talked about what we saw, and 7 of us saw pictures in their head not similiar, but with the same overall "message": light defeating darkness.

For everyone feeling guilt because they can't hear God, please don't worry. You can hear God through many ways. Firstly, he might be guiding you by placing objects and challenged in your life and showing you what is right for you to do. For instance, there was a series of events that happened that made me change my taste of music, and I feel like that was from God. Secondly, reading the Bible and praying are a form of communicating with God and feeding your spirit. Thirdly, you may have dreams or thoughts that are so holy that they might seem from God. Fourthly, you might just hear him one day. Just keep in mind, if you can't hear God, it doesn't just mean that he isn't there, but that he is helping someone that is more in need.

Hi jon great video.i've learn that in no way can ee do a favour for God or try to prove to people or even to ourselfs that He is God, because He does not need to prove Himself.also i learned that God walks with each one of us a very personal way.as christians God does many things to us in general but when the walk gets upclose it gets more personal and He reveals and do things differently in the a manner you never heard or read about.bless!

My mom always says God is always talking you just have to listen, I've found that statement to be really true. I think hearing God is based on how much you know Him and what kind of relationship you've built with Him. Like for me I talk to God a lot like out of no where because it helps me process things and He'll start talking just as randomly (it seems like to me). And some stuff God says is like "what?" so you have to go and ask Him what that means. The thing with me is I constantly question if I'm doing this right did I hear you right God? Have I been doing this wrong the whole time ? Was what they were saying for me? So, it's not the silence it's everything that's He's saying to me. And other things. Long story short pay attention to everything and talk to God about your feelings of Him being silent because He'll definitely answer.
