Well If you heard the 2009 version (specially the one from the soundchecks on mexico) you can hear that the bossa nova arrangement is pretty recent so it took a while to cook that idea

@@jorgeavilesf yep 2009's version from Latitude was my favourite version by far, i'm not a fan of the way it progressed after that. The simple acoustic version was already perfect for me.

@@mattatatat well I actually was at the soundcheck in Mexico and to me that version was the top tier killer version. But they did what they do when they think a song might be too popular (like lift or videotape) and toned it down. I like the AMSP version, but ngl my heart is still with the 2009 full band explosive version

@@jorgeavilesf ah well that's why it's your favourite. I searched you tube for your version and found some that seem to have been recorded from a long way away so I couldn't hear it properly. But heard that it was before the bossa nova beat time. I wasn't at latitude but remember watching the video shortly after and being blown away by the beauty of it, the lyrics, the feeling, everything it conjures up inside the listener. It's rare that a song hits me so hard, even loving radiohead as I do this one took me by surprise back then.

@@liviagrisi8054 Oh Jonny was the reason IR turned out so wholesome (as always). The reggae aesthetics are all over the album But as you say this is totally a Thonny piece and thats what makes Radiohead so great and solo Thom Yorke very subpar

When I first heard his first two albums I was not impressed, but after a number of listens I began to understand them a hell of a lot better and appreciate them. I only sometimes love them. But Anima is a simply incredible album in my opinion. Not Radiohead, but it feels like Thom having truly come into his own as a solo artist.

Thom played this as "The Present Tense" (Latitude 2009) solo so before the release of the film the song was formed, at least as well as this, with the lyrics and guitar fully arranged. Considering how well they play it together they must have worked really closely on the song as a whole. This is hauntingly beautiful! Thanks

This is so much better than the actual Present Tense. Thom may be the band's frontman, but Jonny seems to be the most compositionally talented of them, by *far*. Listening to this almost felt as hauntingly sublime as hearing some of Bach's darker works.

O próprio Jonny é muito experimental também, mas ao mesmo tempo ele é muito culto. Se tu parar para ouvir as trilhas sonoras de filmes que ele trabalhou só, são incríveis. Ao mesmo tempo que ele usa instrumentos e estilos clássicos ele dá uma mexida para se tornar algo muito experimental e absurdo, as minhas preferidas são as trilhas sonoras de Phantom Thread e de There Will Be Blood. Para tu ter uma noção, tem músicas que o cara simplesmente toca guitarra com uma técnica usando moeda, e também usando um arco de violino. Acho que o Thom é de fato mais loucão na abordagem, mas o Jonny merece o crédito de também ser muito experimental.

@@Wisdawms some people do not like the sound of their voice, or objectively they have an unpleasant singing voice. Jonny may be either of these, but I have personally found that people who are musical but can't sing are AMAZING instrumentalists. They typically find their voice in their instrument, and become virtuosic.

HTDC for instance would've been just another acoustic ballad without Jonny's strings. Life in a Glasshouse was composed entirely by Jonny , same goes for idioteque. I dunno, but it seems to me like the most dense and unique elements in RH's music come from Jonny and just the base melody that the songs start off with come from Thom.

But at the end of the day you could say the same for every member of the band. Usually we always think that it's an "artistic battle" between Jonny and Thom, which might be true, but could you imagine radioheads music without Ed's sonoric landscapes, Phil's like clockwork rythm and Colin's unique basslines? I can't. They are incredible musicians came together that made some of the best music ever written. I settled on that!

Well, this is super interesting. Basically the song Present Tense is a smash of all 3 parts of this sequence. Pretty good, I knew the song from the Latitude video as it wasn't formally put out before that on any Radiohead stuff. Jonny's pretty weird/cool. Loved his insane score for TWBB. Say what you will but for all the arse kissing, Radiohead is always going to be the sum of their parts, regardless of how great any of the people in it are by themselves. I think thom's ego/input seemed to bring that band to an end which is too bad as when they all have input into a song= best band on the planet. When they are just playing what Thom creates- they're still ok, but not Great and they really aren't Radiohead. I thought MSP was very bits and pieces just to get rid of them. I consider the last RH album to really be In Rainbows. Even half of TKOL felt like it was just thom doing a solo album with his band playing in it. RH should just permanently disband- they've made enough Amazing Material- but they should do 1 more album, 1 where all of the members have an equal say in what is made. I don't much care for The Smile- 1st albums alright, the 2nd was a hot mess- songs with 3 distinctly different tones smashed together? It was weird and not much enjoyable. Anywho, this is a great sequence like I said- thanks.
