One of the greatest concerts I ever EXPERIENCED! He played a free concert in my hometown and right before he went on the sky opened up with thunder and rain and 90% of the people left. Johnny came out and said he was so impressed with the 100 of us that stuck around to see him and our enthusiasm. To thank us he proceeded to give everything he had for the next two and a half hours. He conducted the music like a master and made it ebb and flow with the changing intensity of the storm. It was honestly like being at musical church and he was the old school fire and brimstone preacher.

Jonny became a gospel singer for a few years. He's back to his blues roots and just released an album in Sept I think it was. His first album in 4 years. He's paying homage to old blues. It's pretty awesome.

At 15, Jonny Lang made a blues album, 1997's "Lie to Me," which went platinum and hit No. 1 on Billboard's New Artist chart. At 17 he made another, "Wander This World," which earned a Grammy nomination.

you probably know by now that Jonny Lang was from Minnesota, not Chicago. Although he has played a lot of tours and events with Buddy Guy (of Chicago). So glad that you've found Jonny. In 2022, he's grown up, married, with 4 kids and I believe living in California. He had to stop singing in 2019 on doctor's orders. But before then I saw Jonny in concert 14 times (once with Sting and Keb Mo in Chicago's outdoor Grant Park!) And I met Jonny 4 times. Jonny also signed one of my guitars. He's SUPER nice and kind in person. I'm so thankful I discovered him when he performed in The Blues Brothers 2000 movie. (circa 1998). You should watch that clip, too!

Great reaction! Great posts! Finally the fill ins from Johnny Lang, complimenting other posts. Jonny said he saw a blues player when he was 14 and was so blown away that he asked him for lessons. Record executives heard him and he was signed at 15, so they would not lose him. He was ready at 16, his release was ready and the label, so impressed, gave him backing of the best! A music teacher, GIT grad (you have to be out of this world good to get in), figured out the song fast, but that doesn’t matter. He called Jonny a “stoned cold blues player”, mixing the styles of Albert King, SRV, Robben Ford, but most important, himself. Many use the wah like a toy of sort, but Jonny uses it to make important notes scream, as guitar players can’t just push a note, like a vocalist, or horn players, but tastefully make single notes “cut like ice picks”. This is true. The Wah can add just enough gain to make it tastefully scream, when it makes sense. Why the faces? You are playing, like you are singing and Jonny sings and plays so consistently. A guitar singing is often thought of, as just ripping on it! No! You get a turn to sing, then the guitar gets a chance to sing and mouthing the words, playing the guitar, is thinking singing and the guitar to match. Tasteful wah use, amazing learning curve in 2 years and that teacher needs a hug! Wow! Good on Jonny and all around him. The story is generally right, is nailed in the posts, but I wanted some blanks filled it, so I am just sharing them to compliment posts, loving that Jonny shared this! Freaking amazing! All the best to all!

Man I feel so old when I see so many reactors reacting to so much music that I was listening to growing up on back when it was all brand new and just came out. Johnny Lang was born January 29, 1981. So he is 41 years old now One year younger than my husband. And I'm fixing to turn 35 years old. This song came out in 1997. So Johnny would have been 16 years old. And I was 10 years old. It was so amazing seeing some hot young teen with so much talent with a bluesy voice.. I was a huge fan of his. I remember the day I first heard this song at 4th of July. My uncle had Johnny Langs cd playing and I fell inlove with Johnny's voice when I heard him sing Lie to Me.. I swear I replayed that song over and over again.. He was just oozing so much talent and sex appeal for a 16 year old boy. It was unbelievable. I was inlove. I had Johnny's name attached to mine and words like forever colored all over my notebook binder. LOL! I had his posters on my wall and one huge poster on my ceiling over my bed. He was the last face I saw before I fell asleep. Mama didn't bother asking how come I placed Johnny's poster over my bed.. I think she was afraid to find out the answer. LOL!!!!! I always had a thing for older guys. Met my future husband when I was 16 and he was 23 years old. Boys my age were so immature and got on my nerves. I grew up so fast and more mature than other girls my age and very responsible. So when I met my future husband Justin back in 2003 when I was q6 we were just friends and co workers for 1 year and a half. But we secretly fell inlove around 6 or so months before I turned 18 but Justin never said a word bevause he was a gentleman. He waited on me to come of age. We shared a close friendship and had so much in common including our love for the same music, music and our strong love for God which was very important to us both. And we even brought out the best in one anotheriur age difference never bothered us. Plus I looked so much older than my actual age. My now late mother trusted Justin and gave him her blessing to date me. I was soon to turn 18 anyway. That was back in early 2005. We got married December 2006. So we have been together for over 17 years and married for over 15 years And we ate still going strong. Amd I look forward to growing old with this sweet wonderful kind hearted hard working and loving man. I am one lucky woman alright. But I still remember some of my girl crushes on guys like Johnny Lang, Nick Carter, Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Layne Staley from Alice n Chains, Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20, Brad Pitt back in the days when he was in movies like Innterview with the Vampire and Legends of the Fall. Oh there is more where that came from. Lol But yes I also got to see alot of these amazing singers and bands in concert back in the day in their prime. And I'm so glad I was able to grow up with these amazing artists.

ANYONE in Orange County California, Jonny Lang is performing at The Stage Coach, This Thursday 6th & Friday December 7 2018...in San Juan Capistrano. What's very ironic, Last time I was at Stage Coach, I was with my hubby. It was his birthday, so I got him tickets to one of his favorite singers... Etta James! My hubby love Blues & Jazz... He loved Langs style in Blues, as well. We were both floored when we first heard him he was just turning 16. I mean the kid was born in 81' and at age 12 was already a master, actually played in places in his hometown Fargo, North Dakota. He got major record deal at 15! Lie To Me.. this was in 97' cray, cray talent... Both of them. The last time we saw him was in 2004 Doheny Beach Blues Festival. Get this, Etta James followed Jonny, and closed out the show. My hubby was in heaven. Anyone remember Breakin' Me, or School Girl? 2005 my hubby was called to Heaven. Pancreatic Cancer. At least he was able to see his favs, together performing just months before. Jonny is now 38, a devoted Christian, married, with 4 children. He's cut a few gospel albums, but recently released "Signs"...i think that's the name. Critics are saying it's his older style. Thanks for the memory 💞🙏
