Can barely describe the rush of happiness I felt when Cooper got the final spot. I was almost sure that he was going to be snubbed when he did everything that I felt like the roster needed. My favorite player of all time is Bird and he has always sang the praises of Michael Cooper's defense, intensity and heart. I was thinking about how to word an angry comment when I heard his name. Great video.

@raiderplague10 ай бұрын
@@Davivd2 I could sit and list all the recognizable stuff that he did that made him a great on-ball defender...and he did everything, but Cooper's real strength was the little stuff he did that most others didnt. If you listen to Bird's defenders talk about his crafty defense and "safety-like" patrolling of passing lanes, Cooper did the same thing, but could also do it while actively guarding someone on-ball. It's one of the most unique skills I have ever seen and really speaks to his intelligence and determination. Cooper knew their sets and positioning and would watch their eyes and body language and make adjustments to get between them and a relief pass while still maintaining smothering defense. You don't see that too often and it's not really talked about but his level of preparation and understanding his strengths and skillset were elite. Amazing player that the younger generation should probably add to the playlist if they want to see the game played the right way.

@@baxterbrown8088 Yep, people are seriously sleeping on this option. Warriors Wilt is a monster who was "held" to over 34 PLAYOFF ppg, 25 rebounds per game, and who knows how many blocks, because he was regularly facing double and triple teams (often from the Bill Russell Celtics) and had highly limited supporting scoring threats/spacing. Sharing a frontcourt with KD...let alone having Steph on the perimeter...I don't care if he's going up against prime Shaq...he's going to feast. Now, depth is one major advantage the all-time Lakers have over just about anyone, including the Warriors, and the drop-off in Warriors' talent after their starting 5 is...noticeable. In terms of who's more likely to form a dynasty, it's definitely the Lakers. But in a single season/playoff run, all-time Warriors are a bigger threat than they're getting credit for.

Given the speed of today's game, Wilt (especially a young Wilt) probably outplays Kareem and Shaq due to his work rate and a young Kareem probably out-hussles Shaq. You'd have to surround Wilt with shooters (West). If the refs are calling charges, I'm definitely not starting Shaq. I don't think people realize that Wilt likely scored 50+ a game in his youth because not even guards could beat him down the court, no matter the opposing center. Watch the video of his triple jump... Bill Russell was probably the only guy that kept up with him in his prime.

West, Baylor, and Goodrich would be an amazing combo and it was great getting to learn even more about them. I can also see Kobe and West closing out games too. Plus, Davis and Wilt would be an amazing frontcourt. You're right that the five backups would beat many starting 5s. Hard to see Worthy as a rotation player. But it makes sense since this team is so talented. AD and LeBron are great players but were not at their best in LA and didn't play yet for as long as the other legends. Therefore, for what they mean to the franchise and how they would play together at their best as Lakers: Starters: Magic-Kobe-Worthy-Kareem-Shaq Bench: West-Goodrich-LeBron-Baylor-Wilt Last 3: Gasol-Mikan-AC Green for the same reasons you listed. Hey Jonny love your channel, best basketball channel on KZbin easily. I’ve got a video idea that I’d love to see you do. When considering the best players ever, I take into consideration a player’s ability to lead/carry a team as the lone-star pretty heavily. We value championships and playoff success when comparing players, but obviously some all-time great players had much greater teams/coaches/organizations than other all-time great players. I’d love to hear your opinion on who you think the best lone-star players in NBA history are. In my dream world, I’d want to see a postseason of the 30 best players of all time on a team of their own as the lone superstar, with equal teammates that compliment the player’s skill set and equal coaching. I really think that’s the best determiner of who’s truly the best. It proves a player’s abilities to lead, impact the game without relying on other all-time greats, and beat opponents when everything else is equal. It doesn’t necessarily translate to the GOAT list perfectly, but it is a worthwhile thing to consider in my opinion. Much love!

Position adjusted Kareem at 4 and Shaq at 5 is an awesome combination, and I'm surprised I was thinking of starting one over the other rather than adjusting it that way. Kareem was an amazing shot blocker and yet not really an all-time rim protector, and Shaq was kind of the opposite. That is to say, Kareem snagged an extremely large amount of shots without really being an all-time intimidator under the rim who would actually deter attempts from being taken in the first place, whereas Shaq was a good but not spectacular shot-blocker who was an extremely good rim protector because he *did* intimidate and deter attempts under the rim. So Kareem being a little further from the rim or even out at the perimeter guarding stretch 4s would actually leverage his length and shot-blocking and Shaq's rim deterrence to basically the maximum extent. And on offense obviously that starting 5 has excellent scoring options from 30ft to 1ft from the rim at will all game long. Their offense would be genuinely impossible to really mitigate and your only hope of clawing anything back would be when they go to their second squad.

In the starting 5 there are 4 of the top 8 leading scorers in NBA history and the other guy is the greatest passer ever💀

Was waiting for this Ultimate Lakers team. Been a fan since Kobe's days but im putting Gasol over AD as back up PF.

This team is so crazy good it almost isn't fair to the other ultimate teams.

The lakers are the most overpowered team with the celtics. You can tell from its rings.

I want West, Baylor and Wilt as starters, and if that means Kobe, LeBron and Shaq will have to wait on the bench, then that's what they'll have to do. For West, we only have steals for his very last season in the league - and there, a way post-prime West averages 2.6 SPG, which is more than Kobe ever scored. He's an elite passer, and between him and Magic, the ball will get where it's needed. With West, the primary advantage of LeBron over Baylor becomes less relevant - Magic and West will be the floor generals, and the top-three can focus on scoring, which is where Baylor shines. His 61/62 season is actually the highest scoring season average by anyone not named Wilt Chamberlain, which Baylor did while also averaging 18.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists. He also played for the Lakers in that season, unlike LeBron who was significantly older and past his prime when he put on the gold and purple. Wilt is obvious - he's just plain better at everything than Shaq. Shaq's bad enough at free throws that he doesn't even have that going for him. Wilt could outscore him, even post-injury Wilt, but since Wilt was a laker before his knees gave up, we don't have to settle for anything less than a hale Big Dipper who has learned to play as part of a team under Alex Hannum. Also, I want him and Kareem playing as twin towers, because of the sheer ludicrousness.

Totally agree on Wilt. He would destroy fat-ass Shaq on both ends of the boards. He’s faster, stronger, quicker, more athletic and has much more stamina than Shaq. Better scorer and rebounder along with dishing the ball for assists. The only thing Shaq might be better than Wilt is in rapping! Shaq gets the nod based on he is more current and still seen on TV. Kills me when Shaq is given the top slot over not only Wilt but also Kareem.

Great team but….. I thought it was a bit of a cop-out putting Kareem at the 4 spot. He’s a center through-and-through. Got to make the tough decisions Johnny. Only 1 center on each starting 5. 😂

Just can’t get over how much talent has come through that organization. Here’s a team that every player except Cooper (who should be a hall of fame player for his defense) is in the hall of fame. I don’t know how they would gel, but when you have all of that basketball intelligence, you just figure it out. The team is so great, that you have Kareem playing four, Wilt coming off the bench and George Mikan, a five time champion watching in the stands! 🤣

Without question, Lakers Ultimate Team selection w/b the most difficult. So many choices. I actually believe McAdoos' skill set is tailored made for the starters, replacing my favorite all time player Kareem to the 2nd unit & moving Wilt to the 3rd & knocking Worthy off the list. Also sad to see the Lakers 3rd best point guard, Norm Nixon didn't make the final cut...but this franchise is LOADED. As always, nice job.

Can't argue with most of that..... but no honourable mention for Vlade Divac?

Damn what a formiddable team. I'd personally start Pau over Davis since Wilt and Baylor I feel has enough inside prescence leaving Pau to do more damage offensively. Great list

I would have Elgin over Lebron honestly

Hey Jonny, great video as always! I do have one question though. When you’re stating each player’s stats there seams to be a discrepancy between the shooting percentage you say and the one displayed in text. I wonder am I missing something?
@jonnyarnett10 ай бұрын
Yeah, so the percentage I’m usually audibly saying is their Field Goal Percentage (FG%), and sometimes my editor will display the True Shooting Percentage (TS%), which is a broader efficiency stat that includes Field Goal, Free Throw and 3 Point Efficiency. I think my editor does that just to give the viewers more information if that’s desired, but I can also see how that can be confusing
@Methodiev10 ай бұрын
@@jonnyarnett Good on your editor, it’s nice to have more insightful information. Thank you for clearing that up
