The 1990 Lakers belong on this list. They had the league's best record at 63-19, the regular season MVP, and were the 3-time defending Western Conference champs. They lost 4-1 in the 2nd round to the Suns after beating them 3 out of 4 games during the regular season and sweeping them in the 1989 playoffs.
@romanramirez7847 Жыл бұрын
Good pull. I agree that the 1990 Lakers were a disappointment. I cite two major factors in their underachievement. The first is that the Lakers had been to the Conference Finals EIGHT straight years prior to that which is insane in itself, so I could tell that they were trying way too hard to go a ninth time. The second is that Riley himself had grown way too obsessive in the team’s success. His last two seasons with the Lakers, he began pushing the team way too hard with exhausting practices, and by the time the playoffs came around the Lakers themselves finally ran out of gas. After that season, Riley resigned and Michael Cooper retired. I consider that in my opinion, to really be the last season of Showtime as Mike Dunleavy changed up the play style once he got there the following season.
@vdismukes Жыл бұрын
I was aware that Riley's practices caused the injuries to Byron Scott and Magic during the '89 playoffs, but I did not know that the intense practices continued the following season. That would explain Riley and the Lakers parting ways after the early playoff exit. Additionally, perhaps the Lakers were looking past the Suns to a Conference Finals matchup with the Blazers. I remember thinking at the time that the Blazers were the only team that could prevent the Lakers-Pistons trilogy. @@romanramirez7847

I honestly would put the 2022 Lakers ahead of 2016 GSW. Like I understand the disappointment around GSW not being able to finish the Cavs but the GSW had some stuff working against them. Their center Bogut was out, Draymund got suspended for that crucial game 5, and I honestly believe that since his ankle injury in the first round Steph wasn't playing up to his regular season standard. Add on that they had a grueling WCFs where they had to make their own comeback and it isn't that surprising to me. The 2022 Lakers on the other hand were just trash. Even when all three superstars were healthy and on the court they couldn't manage to get things going. At least when all 3 of the big 3 Nets played together, the few rare times it happened, the results were generally wins and they looked good.

The 1986 team was expected to give us the 3rd consecutive Lakers vs Celtics matchup but the Rockets had the perfect formula to counter the new Laker focus on physicality. Ralph Sampson isn't a name talked about enough and kids today probably wouldn't be able to fathom a 7'4" version of T-Wolves Kevin Garnett who can even play small forward.

Honestly, it's baffling to me how the 2007 Mavericks can rationally be ranked as a bigger disappointment/shocking fail (other than to Mavericks fans) than the full-mouthed, star-studded 2011 Miami Heat, not to speak of so many other teams. I think the impression of the awkward press conference as a confluence of bad circumstances like a hot and overachieving Warriors-Team that had beaten the Mavericks three times in the season and was coached by the one man, Don Nelson, who exactly knew how to take Dirk's game apart, must have overshadowed what rationally could be expected. Not to speak of the consistent anti-Mark Cuban/Mavs bias of the referees ... So yes, this was a good team, but far from a super team like many of those ranked way lower on this list. So, disappointing? Definitely. Shocking? A bit, because the exit was so early, but not really that surprising when you look a bit closer. But top 3 compared to the others? No, just no. I am however fully on board with ranking the 2011 Mavericks as one of the top 3 most impressive championship runs of all time. ;-)

Anyone else finding it funny that he keeps saying "JUST 6 games," ? Lolll a 6 game series is the 2nd tightest a series can get. Losing in 6, even if you're a 1 seed, is something I'd consider a fairly tight series

i can't put the 16 warriors on there. As disappointing as it was, it was still a naturally built team that was playing great basketball and choked. Teams that BUILT super teams and still failed should be regarded as more disappointing imo.

The 2022 BB Lakers should be the marquee team on your thumbnail. They're the biggest failure of all time. With 5 probable HOFs on the roster including the guy some call the GOAT they failed to make the playoffs and didn't even qualify for the new play-in tournament , finishing outside of the top ten in the conference.

I mean minor shuffles, but the outright missed placements are 2011 Heat are easy top 5 especially against those Mavs and the hype, the Celtic trade nets team isn't top 10, and I do believe the recent 2023 bucks deserve a spot at like 15-20.

Of all the Lakers teams on this list, the 2004 team should have been the highest. 98 was a stacked team too, and the others were just bad fits. That 2004 team was destroyed by injuries. IIRC Malone, Kobe, Payton, and Shaq only played 27 regular season games together. In those 27 games, they were spectacular. The opening game of the season was like watching the Globetrotters. That team knew that they were so stacked and nobody cared who shot so they just passed the ball around and steam rolled teams. The games where all 4 of those guys were on the floor were some of the best basketball games that I've ever seen. But the injuries.....Each one of those guys missed like 20 games through out the season and it was never all at once. So 2 or 3 of them would always be on the floor, and every week it would switch out. The chemistry never set in because how the offense was being ran and who was getting the most touches shifted from week to week. To this day, I've never seen a team fluctuate what they do so much and it was all because of injuries. Had that team stayed healthy, they could have won it all, and IMO had the most promise out of all the teams listed except maybe the 98 roster. Kobe was still a year away from being a super star but their bench was deep. Elden Campbell and Derek Fisher were the best bench players at their position in the entire league and they still had B Shaw, Big Shot Rob, and Rick Fox on the bench. Fox, Horry, and Fisher became the starters 2 years later and they 3 peated. You should have waited a year to make this video though. That way the Suns could have made the list. :-)

Ill still never forgive Mike Brown for losing that Orlando series for us.. putting LeBron on their point guards to "disrupt their offense" then putting delonte west on their forwards was the dumbest coaching move I've ever seen.. there were also injuries that would have helped deal with dwight so Andy and Z didn't get destroyed every play.. oh well, least we got 1 ring

Wait, so the 2009 Cleveland was more of a failure than the 2011 heat? I mean Ben and Big Z were already at their twilight years and Mo Williams was a replacement all-star, meaning he wasn't even supposed to be an all-star. 09 Cleveland shouldn't even be on this list to be honest. Team was decent but it lacks the star power most of the teams on this list had so I don't know why it's a failure. 2020 bucks was even more tragic and should be the ones on this list since they lost to a 5th seed in the 2nd round in just 5 games. Also 2023 bucks should be here but where is it?? I think the only reason why it's on the list is because a lot wanted to have a Kobe vs LeBron matchup and it didn't happened.

How was the 2011 Miami Heats only #14 on the list?
@ArtMagik Жыл бұрын
It's not often that I find myself massively disagree with you, but there were a lot of teams that I would have put higher or lower. The most notable are the 2011 Heat and the 2022 Lakers. The 2011 Heat failure is, for my own perspective, almost as shocking as the 2016 Warriors. LeBron was in his peak, Wade was arguably a top 3 player at that time and Bosch a top 10. All the show done before the season put the expectations so high and the opposition in the Finals was so unbalanced on paper that everyone around me seemed to think that the Heat would sweep the Mavericks. LeBron poor performances, the 2-0 lead blowed and the ultimate defeat made this Finals one of the most shocking that I ever saw (and somehow in the good way because everyone prefer the victory of the underdog). On the opposite side, I still don't understand how the 2022 Lakers were so highly regarded before the season begin. Between the injury history, the lack of compatibility between LeBron and Russ and the roster that was not matching LeBron and Davis qualities, it was obvious to me that they will struggle and probably have a hard time going to the post season. I had put them between the 10th and 6th seed, and more likely 10-8 than 7-6. And seeing that they were labeled as contender made me ask if I was crazy or the other people just dumb because they see big names.
@cliptomaniac2562 Жыл бұрын
It had to be a big name thing. I personally don’t remember any hype for the 2022 Lakers with AD’s injury history and Russ being Russ. I do remember teams like the 2011 Heat and the KD, Kyrie and Harden Nets being a foregone conclusion for the chip.

@@cliptomaniac2562Dawg is your memory that slow? KP said they'd win 70 games. Nick Wright & Shannon Sharpe said LeBron would win a 5th ring and solidify himself as the GOAT. Only as the season progressed and it became clear this team wasn't gonna do sh!t did they start to backtrack in excuses and fake injuries like they always do for Bron.

Putting the 2022 Nets that high is so dumb lol. With all the injuries to KD, Kyrie missing games and their 3rd. and 4th. best player being injured too.
@jonnyarnett Жыл бұрын
That's kind of an excuse though, because by the logic of injuries and missed time, almost no team is allowed to be ranked. 2016 Warriors didn't have Bogut and Draymond had a suspension. 04 Lakers had Malone hurt in the finals and Kobe's Colorado trials throughout the season. 13 Lakers were insanely injured, with the Kobe achilles, Dwight shoulder and Pau's foot, etc.

Id say that Rockets team needs to be lower. People following the league at the time and Rockets fans knew that entire lineup was well past its prime. A championship from them was always just a fools hope.
@danielkopolovic7218 Жыл бұрын
I didn't think the 2016 Warriors were a disappointment. It seemed obvious that the Cavs would give them trouble. Even short-handed, the '15 Cavs had taken the Warriors to 6 games. With Love and Irving healthy, you had to expect the Cavs would be a tough matchup. I am not sure what the betting line was, but I doubt it was that lopsided. Besides, the Warriors had just barely managed to beat the Thunder in the conference finals (coming back from their own 3-1 deficit). By no means did they look invincible. I thought the '19 Durant Warriors coming up short against the Raptors was way more shocking. The way they had dominated the past two years, and with a Lebron-less Eastern conference (Lebron-less playoffs for that matter), It looked like a sure-thing that they would steamroll their way to a championship 3-peat.
