Hi Jonny, I have a Toyota Corona 1993 that I replaced the old radiator with a new one and replaced the "radiator Sensor" that is under the radiator, it looks the same to the one you replaced "ect sensor" Im facing the problem that the fans wont start, wont turn on, if I unplug the new changed sensor located under the radiator both start but they stop as soon as i plug in the sensor. Maybe I should change the ECT sensor the one you replaced to? my car starts ok no problem but Im dealing with this situation, tomorrow will check the Relays and fuses. Thank you for any advice. Great video by the way.
@JonnyDIY4 ай бұрын
@@deb-smartech sounds like a good place to start. Fuses, relays then sensor. May be able to test sensor with multimeter to see if bad. Not sure of parameters but should be able to find with Google search or just roll dice with new sensor. Strange it would go bad same time replacing radiator unless it was bad before causing overheating issues?

Jonny, great job on the video! Keep up the good work.. I am helping my dad with his 1997 RAV4 that has cooling fan issues. I have replaced fan relays 1,2,&3 along with ETC like on your video (I did drop the washer you warned about) I also replaced the lower fan switch and I am still having these symptoms. Cooling fan does not come on at appropriate temp time, when car is below this temp the AC when switched on will turn on both fans until it reaches the hot temp that is supposed to turn on cooling fan but instead none work? Any suggestions?
@JonnyDIY5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. No fan runs until you get up in temperature then 1 fan should run. Both fans should run when ac is on. There is another coolant sensor for the fans at the bottom of radiator, if you havent replaced that Id check that. If thats not the problem then Id replace the cooling fans because it sounds like youve gone through fuses and relays and checked wiring
@TheMagicads5 жыл бұрын
Correct, no fans run until I turn ac on.. when ac is on then both do come on as normal. The normal stops when the car reaches temp that would normally trigger the one cooling fan to turn on but doesn’t as well as stopping the previous normal ac two fan function at the same time leaving no fans working until turning off the car and the car cools back down below the normal range. I did replace the fan sensor at the bottom of the radiator just to be sure, the relays I replaced also just to be sure and it was cheap enough, not because they were all no good. I am still scratching my head on what could turn off the AC fans at the temp that should but doesn’t turn the single cooling fan on?
@JonnyDIY5 жыл бұрын
Should be the sensor in radiator, double check work and wiring. Check all fuses in engine bay as well. If all thats good, it could be the whole fan assembly that needs replacing

Hi, did this solve the problem with the rev being unstable when the car is cold?

It helped among some other things like cleaning the throttle body, and oddly enough I believe I had a transmission leak one time and it mimicked same thing being low on transmission fluid

@@JonnyDIY I wish I could show you a picture of my 2000 engine. The thinner sensor is closer to the engine and the fatter sensor is to the right side of the first one. My gf’s 97 RAV4 is still overheating after installing new thermostat, water pump, ECT Sensor. Any suggestions, or any part numbers for the other sensors, like the smaller one for the gauge to the right of ECT???? Thanks in advance!

I would think its probably the radiator itself then and or cap. Also make sure both fans working properly and coming on with AC

@@JonnyDIY FYI, ended up being a failed head gasket, a leak at the radiator, & a possible cracked head. Only determined the problems after requesting a block test. I have an intermittent operating Air conditioner on my 1996 RAV4 but Aircond service guy says Aircond systems and gas is all good so it has to be something to do with the car cooling system. When I the a/c is intermittent I hear a clicking sound near the driver side firewall. What could be the issue and what should I replace?
@JonnyDIY3 жыл бұрын
May be the a/c pressure switch. Hmm if the clicking isn't just the a/c clutch kicking on and off may want to test the relay for the a/c
@gvick153 жыл бұрын
@@JonnyDIY the relay for AC compressor I replaced it but problem still there and also when I bypass the relay the a/c works well but that’s not the solution. So is there an a/c pressure switch near the driver side firewall? Next I also notice both the fans in front start to run the moment I turn on the ignition.
@JonnyDIY3 жыл бұрын
@@gvick15 if both fans coming on automatically with the A/C on and engine Cold Id say its the sensor that reads the coolant temp. The last thing it could be is the compressor is just going out

@JonnyDIY3 жыл бұрын
@@420BLUNTLEY well you can test the thermostat by boiling it to see if open and closing correctly. Then youll know if its that or could actually be the coolant temp sender for the gauge that has gone out. Thats the one next to this one

@@JonnyDIY also When it is idling stationary, it will get up to the Middle range of the temperature gauge. But when moving, it runs on the lower side. I don’t think it has very hot heat either.

I have 1999 Rav4. And the fans are constantly running the moment I start the car. Could that be the same sensor?
@JonnyDIY6 жыл бұрын
Possibly. I would first make sure all connections are good with the wiring coming from fans. Then I would check the sensor at the bottom passenger side of radiator (most likely culprit) 0:40 . Then Id check this ECT sensor. Also check relays.
@Commenting8006 жыл бұрын
Thank! I removed the connector from the temp sensor and the fans continued to run, but I haven't tried to check the sensor you mentioned. I was going to check the relays first. Can you name the connections that I need to check? (I'm not too savvy when it comes to the mechanics of cars, but trying to learn)
@JonnyDIY6 жыл бұрын
I would check the 2 sensors first. You will need an ohms meter to test.
@Commenting8006 жыл бұрын
I don't have the OHMS meter. But I was trying to disconnect the connector that goes into the sensor on the radiator. I wasn't able to, but somehow all that yanking fixed the issue! what do you think that's about?
@JonnyDIY6 жыл бұрын
Well hopefully that did it. Must have been a bad or loose connection. Or all the yanking maybe made the sensor work again. Just keep an eye in it. If it starts up again its probably just sensor going out. Cheap to replace either Autozone or Rockauto.com has great deals on replacement parts
