As someone who’s owned a snowskate for the past 3 years, I can confidently say these things are incredible for skating in the winter. It takes some getting used to, but they’re the perfect blend between skateboarding and snowboarding. You can kick turn or carve down massive slopes, or take it easy on flat and learn some new tricks, just depends on the conditions of the snow

Killin' it, Jonny! So glad you're enjoying the new board. You did an awesome job showcasing the crucial differences between snowskates and a standard skate deck. Also, I'll be the first to say that flat ground on a snowskate can definitely be difficult! I'm seriously impressed by your bag of tricks! You should try it out on a small drop/set of stairs, I honestly think you'll find it easier. Regardless, I can't wait to see what's next from ya! Much love, friend!

Was recently watching a behind the scenes from one of the Ambition riders. Gerlach, maybe? He was saying that they spend a lot of time prepping a spot before hitting it. Basically remove all of the snow, break it up, and lightly dust the run. They don’t skate fresh snow, because it’s too sticky. Hopefully this helps.

We used regular skate decks as kids, and made it work, u need a ice scraper for the griptape the ones u use for your car window, and wax for the bottom of the deck, we used regular candles as wax, helps to have a deck with a steep nose and tail also, we kickfliped down stuff and even ollied some gaps, I own an Ambition snowskate now, and yeah it works waaay better but you can still have alot of fun with just a deck without spending alot on a real snowskate, we actually had more fun with just a skate deck back in the day ⛄

You can’t carve nearly as easily, since the board is thicker and there’s no straps. depending on the snow, leaning on the edges will still let you carve, but in my experience it’s a lot more kickturns and tictacs involved to be able to control yourself on a slope

Depends on the snow skate. He’s riding like a “street” style snow skate. Then you got the big boys that are bounce decker with a ski underneath the skate deck.

I remember when snow skates first came out. We have a "mini mountain" in my area, and we used to skate, starting at the top, and we would set up ramps and "ledges" and "rails" in a line on the way down, so you could either skate the whole line, or you could stop at each section and skate cause each section had a drop so you could gain momentum easily to skate each obstacle. It sorta went down/flat where the obstacle would be/down to another flat with another obstacle/down, etc. If you can picture that...I tried my best to describe it! It was sooooo fun! 😊 *Oh, and as a side note, it's much harder than it looks! Especially when somebody as talented as Jonny is snow skating, but I'm sure anybody who follows him is well aware of how good he is! 🥳👍

I think it’s cool, but you almost need a continuous slow downhill slope where you can do tricks in a line, flat ground or obstacles, you just need to be able to keep moving for longer I feel. Would also be cool to have some kind of second platform/ski part that lifts the board of the ground rather than having it be similar to a skateboard without trucks and wheels, just so you can generate more pop.

My favorite snow skate style for best control was the kind with the ski platform underneath it. This by far gives the best control and ollying but the thin ski can dig into lighter snow packs that the normal snow skate won't and it also has metal edges which can catch when you boardslide pvc pipes. There was a hybrid type I'm remembering now that was the best of both worlds and I think my favorite design out of all the kinds I've seen. It was thicker than a normal snow skate, like 2 or maybe 3 inches thick, and it used that extra thickness to taper down on the sides into a slightly smaller platform on the bottom of the skate. This is sort of like the ski platform style but it doesn't have hard edges and it's not nearly as high off the ground, just a couple inches. This way you actually get some edge control and the board can tilt from edge to edge so you can control where you go much better, but it doesn't have the metal edges so you won't catch on boardslides. Because on normal totally flat snowskates you can't really control where you're going, you sort of just have to ride on it flat and it takes you where it goes. You can turn it a little bit but nothing like the control that the platform style gives you with the ability to put weight on the edges and tilt the board to turn. Does anybody remember what this kind was called? I should get another one I haven't seen that old one in so many years.
@bennyskim2 жыл бұрын
There's also the ski wheel type, I have a set of 4 - just plastic skis that fit on a normal skate truck, so you have 4 skis instead of wheels. It feels the most like a skateboard, it's just heavy and the skis flap around. The flap effect makes me lean toward the Ambition, it's probably the best. A skimboard does surprisingly well on snow though, I could see a hybrid of a skimboard and snowskate being the perfect balance, like a wider fish shape that you can pop off the tail.

Put two rows of popsicle sticks on the bottom of an old skateboard deck. Cover the popsicle sticks and skateboard deck from nose to tail with duct tape. There you go, a green and cheap alternative option for skating in the snow. Edit: I really forgot board rails already exists. They’re meant for board slides and preventing the skateboard from breaking down the middle but you can use those too for a diy snow skate.
