Never in a million years would I have thought to do something like this. Very clever!!!!!

Super helpful!! I'm up against a similar challenge -- hoping to fabricate a gap-filling element to clamp-hold two irregularly shaped components. This demo delivered proof of concept re: what I thought might be a hare-brained idea. And confirms that plastic sheeting is a safe "release". Other research suggests that rigid expanding foam (once cured) is incredibly strong and durable, too. Interesting!!

seems like the edge should be black, not white. thanks for introducing me to a new use for the foam though. interesting stuff

The result is amazing! You can oxidize screws and nails with muriatic acid, it works great and it’s quick too. I learned that from American restorers. Cheers

That's a really cool way to to fill in and keep that distressed look of the metal. I really like the finish on the screws, helps them blend in very nicely, great trick!
@RobinLewisMakes6 жыл бұрын
That worked incredibly well! Didn't think you could build up on foam with filler, surprised the foam was stable enough. That's a good trick to have

Love the use of sprayfoam and then how you sealed the bubbles 👍

I was pretty skeptical at first, but you definitely won me over with how well that ended up looking. Bravo! :)

Very nice. One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about working with my hands is problem-solving. Each task is unique and can be frustrating but in the end when you solve the problem you’ve learned something new and carry that forward. 👍

Jon... thought the idea of using foam was awesome to fill the gaps and to support the variations in the sign. Could you have used Wood Bending techniques to have finished the frame?

Do you think you could see led strip lights underneath spray foam ?

Was there a reason you didn’t bend the sign back down and remove the warping?
@luisgerena66496 жыл бұрын
Buster Dickerson I think the point is to showcase the imperfections of the piece as well as the artwork. At least for me, the 3D look of the piece keeps it from looking like something you can buy at Hobby Lobby.

Do you have any recommendations for a good stud finder?
@Argyll98466 жыл бұрын
You should buy yourself a strong magnet as it locks onto the nails used to fix drywall and boarding. They cost less than 'stud finders' and are a whole lot cheaper. I've just done a whole house and one of the guys threw his stud finder away when he saw how a magnet did the trick. Nails are usually always hammered into the centre of studs and in 40 years of building, I've never seen them fixed anyplace else.
@anthonytausig68206 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. I have one of those and our space was built back in the 20s or earlier. I have tried drilling into the stud and for whatever reason, I hit something that prevents me from going further. I thought maybe it was a fire box or something metal, as my drill just kept spinning.
