That's not fall damage at 3:43 - the manhole cover is lethal when it's airborne, but the death does not actually trigger until touching the ground. You can see Bubsy enter a special "omae wa mou" tumbling animation after the hit. (The game does have fall damage though as seen at 4:43 because it is a piece of shit)

Actually if an object has a velocity with as reference to let's say a hedgehog, the hedgehog has the same velocity in the opposite sense with as reference that object. So theoretically a hedgehog won't move fast referring to Earth, but can move at 120 km/h referring to a car on the highway. That is, until it gets run over by said car. P.S. I can't be the only one who thinks the car kidnapping him looks more terrifying than any other death in this game. Like, normal enemies, they do whatever, you die, shit happens. These things fucking lure him in, hold him prisoner, FUCKING DRIVE OFF, and you're forced to stare at him with this look of sheer terror in his eyes. Death is one thing, but he has that look of "oh god, what are they gonna do to me?" It's like the other enemies are just swiftly taking him out, but these cars want to actually torture him, slowly and painfully. Why is there this kind of dread in a fucking 2D platformer on the SNES?

I think the difference stands because Bubsy looks like a real bobcat (except for being bipedal and using a t-shirt), you can tell Knuckles and Sonic are not normal because they have unrealistic forms and colours for their species. I think that's Jon's point of view, if something has an ability irrelevant to their real life counterpart, also make the caracter look irrelevant to the real life counterpart

When cats fall, they spread themselves out, due to their light weight and large body (compared to dogs who have large bodies and heavy weights compared to cats), they fall like Bubsy does, although they can't actually glide like that. Due to this weird falling ability, a cat usually has less of a chance of injury the *higher* up they fall.
