Seeing as how the case was officially closed in 1892, then no, no they are not. And to the very best of my knowledge the police have never again opened the case. So once again, the police are lying ....yeah, I know - how surprising(!)

Sleeping on a rope is where the term hang over comes from , the drunks would spend all there money on booze so only have enough for the rope, so getting very drunk means you get a hang over.

I was wondering that. He literally said "hung over it", so I figured that's where it came from. But he never said so, and you'd think, if he knew, he'd add that info, since it's exactly the type of thing these guide types love to share. I guess he doesn't know.

The row of terraced houses at 0:52 are on Varden Street or Walden Street just off the New Road (just south of the famous London Hospital). The original residents were probably skilled members of the working class or the lower middle class (engineers, teachers, small shop keepers, clerks, police constables, etc) when they were first built, probably around 1800-1820. They were later occupied by different families on each floor (cellar, ground floor and first floor and maybe attics in some of them), and in other similar streets in East London, they often had a different family living in each room (usually two rooms per floor). Nowadays, they are very sought after houses, especially by people who work at the London Hospital and also by those who work in the financial area of the City (just to the west) and also at Canary Wharf and Docklands, located slightly east. The original residents and also those who lived in them in the 1840's to the 1980's would be amazed by how much they are worth thesesdays.

Maggie McGonigle Yeah its right next door to Shoreditch and has experienced significant gentrification. I mean sure at night around Brick Lane and the markets the pubs and clubs are a bit seedy but there are lots of vegan joints that have sprung up and loads of art galleries and vintage stores. It's a very hip and arty neighbourhood now with lots of the old buildings and warehouses turned into apartments and very expensive housing as well as commercial sites.

Excellent walking tour, my first proper look at all the locations in the London (in Spittafields wasn't it??) of the Ripper murders, in one [continuous] (in 2 parts for you, though!) showing. & you've done a smashingly good job of it, well done to everyone, presenter bloke (Julian?? good name too BTW! ;)) sounded very knowledgeable on the subject. Looks LOIK (add accent) everyone had fun making it, & having the lovely old chap, RIPPER TOUR GUIDE fella in full costume, really added the authentic RIPPER-o-logical, London of the RIPPER TIMES tour feel. Brilliant And OH MY WORD, omigoshhh, & oh my lord, his voice when reading that letter..... yowza, couldn't believe it when it was revealed it was him speaking!! It was sooo creepy, I mean chillifyiiingly so.... (LOL) REALLY GOOD, BRILLIANT. I was truly freaked out for a moment there!! And amazed, & surprised, pleasantly. Haah. (Trippy but good)

Fun London Guides - Julian McDonnell Films Hey how are you going, thanks for the reply! I never get replied back to except some twat kids who tell me what I can and cant say on youtube!! They dont like my dislike of their profanity when adressing me and think Im a granny! :P Oh but Excuse my british french there, if you catch my drift. Yes the english swear. We use it here too... pardon me. Im from Australia, a long, long way away..... & although I would love to see some sights & countries of both Europe and the UK... someday...... (??) (Lots of places of interest there, from TV film literature etc) ...it's probably unlikely that I will ever have the opportunity (sighhh) But, if I were ever able to, I would really love to take my mum along to check out a bit of Britain & the UK with me... like if we ever got to go for a trip together, which would ideally be on the way to Europe, as I have always wished to go few places & countries of interest, where she has been & has family, & of course including where my parents were born (where I have never yet been, except with my family when I was just a baby.) Oh this is indeed an interesting new development... I actually began writing this yesterday before seeing that you have already been to my parents homeland!! Which is awesome. Im gonna look at that one soon. Im terrible at messages too and edited the above one, plus had more to say on it but didn't want to prattle on TOO MUCH! :P Well have a good one, & look forward to seeing you soon at the "other" location... (Yes being a little mysterious, but Im sure you've guessed...)

I think the first time I heard about Jack the Ripper was when I was a kid when I saw the movie "Time After Time" which was about Jack the Ripper stealing HG Wells time machine and escaping to the present day New York, back when the present day was 1979. I remember being in a bit of Jack the Ripper curiousity fit after that, going to the library to research and stuff - because seeing the movie I was like, maybe that was why they never caught him, he used a time machine and went to the future

Classic pint in a pub finish there Joolz. Given the subject matter, I do find the ripper legend intriguing due to the macabre atmosphere of olde landan town. Music by your sister suited the piece very well

In 2006, this Yank, did one of those Ripper tours at the end of which, we were invited to wonder a bit. Our guide suggested not mentioning Jack within Ten Bells as the owner was quite full of it. I did have a half and then walked around the block in the dark. What I remember quite well was our first stop. Our guide pointed out how Ripper tours, and there must be a dozen or more, were among the most popular London tours. Having said that we watched as the tour groups began arriving and vying for space at the location of the first murder.

Please take me on a tour of Harrod’s Department Store and posh spots where BRF dine/shop. *Thank you for the good humor, movie knowledge, banter with pedestrians, and quality of programming you deliver in covering London and international spots. excellent

I'm convinced it was H.H. Holmes, The murders stopped in London when he left and the same type of murders began in Chicago as soon as he arrived there and he is known as America's first serial killer. Great Video by the way!

Steve Reynolds Methodology was totally different though, Holmes had elaborate planning, the Ripper was in fits and starts.

It's amazing how much that area of London has changed, as I went on a Jack the Ripper walk for the centenary in 1988 and the building where the writing "jewes are the men..." was derelict and you could just walk in over the rubble beside it. Mitre Square still had the old cobblestones and The Ten Bells hadn't been done up, it was still very East End gritty with all the Victorian features and was very authentic.

For anyone willing to do so, I urge you to read "The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper." It focuses on the five canonical women, their lives, and how they ended up as victims of the murderer. It is vital in understanding the human stories behind the myth of Jack the Ripper.

Thank you for bringing this up. I've not read the book yet but an aware of it. I understand it focuses on the victims and reveals a lot more about their lives,. i believe it caused a bit of a stir as it shattered a few myths that the ripper tour guides like to perpetuate. I did one of the tours some years back and it was very interesting as the guide offered a wider picture of the history of the area which I found fascinating. I knew a lot about the murders anyway so i ended up having a good chat with him. To add, I also made a point of visiting the graves of some of the victims to pay respect. Seemed the right thing to do.
