These comments are so infuriating. This is a rule for a COURT OF LAW. For CRIMINALS specifically. If you want this to apply to Joost, you sure hope for prosecutors to deem him as a criminal. At the end of the day, it is pretty simple: Your house/event, your rules. If somebody insults you in your own home, you do not even need police or a judge to ban them from your house. And let's be clear here, these contestants are hold to a much higher standard. They are not even allowed to use harmless swearwords in their songs. Are we really surprised here? The delegation coming out and saying they feel the decision is "disproportionate" tells me what I need to know for now. Something involving subpar behaviour definitely happened, but they feel it shouldn't have led to disqualification. Listen, mate, I get being angry, the EBU is not known for always making good decisions, but going out and insulting staff members isn't the way to go about things either, even when you are mad about stuff.

This year (in combination with the decision to exclude Russia from the competition in 2022) has highlighted that EBU needs to reflect on why a country or performer would be prevented from appearing. The argument that it's just about individual competitors, not states, kinda works for allowing an Israeli competitor this and some sort of action re. Joost (maybe not total disqualification)... And if the justification there is about military action within the Eurovision "family" of countries - what about the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia? There have been disqualifications in the past, but never because of the artist's behaviour - always because of the broadcasters: Romania was expelled in 2016 for not paying their debts, but they returned the year afterwards right away - Ovidiu Anton was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. With Belarus, it was ultimately the broadcaster, too. And had Israel been disqualified this year, it would have been because of the broadcaster insisting on using the original lyrics for "October Rain". The closest artists got to getting disqualified was probably Denmark's "I wanna f you" during the voting in 2011; Iveta Mukuchyan waving the Artsakh flag in the greenroom in 2016; and, of course, the allegations towards Måneskin for "holding their noses too close to the table" during the final, which turned out to be null and void. Btw, I really think Måneskin should use this year's opportunity to do a (possibly English or Italian) cover of "(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi"... 😅

While we don't know all the details, I disapprove of how the EBU is handling this. If it is certain what he did, tell us exactly what happened so we can understand the seriousness of it. If it is still under investigation though, let him perform. If later he is found prosecuted and found guilty, take away his placement and disqualify him after the fact. To disqualify before without concrete ruling feels out of place and disproportionate. The EBU needs to either communicate clearly or let him perform. Or this will just leave a sour taste on top of everything else. Side note, I feel sadden by this because a lot of my non-esc bubble friends are experiencing Eurovision for their first time this year and I feel terrible for bringing them in in a year where everything is a mess. This sucks the joy out of Eurovision for me...

The Dutch broadcaster is angry with the decision of the Eurovision Song Contest organization EBU. "AVROTROS finds the disqualification disproportionate and is shocked by the decision. We deeply regret it and will come back to it later," says AVROTROS director Taco Zimmerman. EBU made the decision due to a complaint against the artist. But the incident for which Joost Klein was disqualified 'is hardly anything', says Cornald Maas, who is a member of the Dutch selection committee.
