The Hellbound Heart is amazing! It's what the movie Hellraiser is based on :))

I loved Hell Hound! It’s about a sentient, sociopathic dog named Baxter. He’s just a dick. American Psycho, but a dog, really. 👌🏽

Thanks to your and other booktubers I have already read several of these books and loved them. You still come up with more books to try out and now my list is longer than I will be able to read but that's fantastic. Loved the twists in many of these books and the ones you haven't read yet I know you will enjoy.

Each time you talked about a book that I've read I was like "you NEED to read that!" 😂The Ring series is awesome, I feel like so many people have watched the films but few have read the source material and it's so interesting and the explanation as to why the paranormal stuff is happening took me by complete surprise. I always say American Psycho is my favourite book but in reality, it was the first book I read that gave me a taste for all things disturbing. I want to reread it at some point. The End of Alice is one of the most messed-up books I've ever read but you already know that 😅Communion is fun, it is creepy but enjoyable nonetheless. Thank you so much for the shoutout hun, I freaking love your videos 💕

The Other book was also made into a movie in the 1970’s. So was the book Burnt Offerings which stars Bette Davis and Karen Black.

I totally forgot about Communion. I read that in high school and I think that (along with the movie Fire in the Sky) fueled my intense alien fear. Also, side note: I wish I could find some more vintage horror written by women.

Loved this! Added more to my list. So The Communion-I read that a long time ago and remember liking it. There’s also a movie with Christopher Walken if you’re so inclined. 👽

Wow, I was so shocked to see The End Of Alice on here! I read that probably 20 years ago and I remember one scene that had me gagging.....and I still think about it. The whole reason I found R.G Devilship was because one day about a year ago I thought "I wonder if anyone on KZbin reviewed The End Of Alice????" And there she was. I think it says something that I STILL think about this book. Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

OMG! I was just about to recommend Hell Hound by Greenhall while you were talking about his previous book lmao. I highly recommend it and it's a quick read! So many awesome throwbacks in this video. Hell House by Matheson was a lot crazier than I expected. I also didn't enjoy American Psycho either. It's the only book where I had to skip whole passages that were just mind numbing descriptions of things. Movie is way better imo. I accidentally read part 5 of the Ring series (the book is called S) for the readathon😂 I also recommend listening to Dolores Claiborne on audio, it's like listening to your crazy aunt retell stories about her life.

I was trying to compare American Phyco and Girl Next door. Both made my toes curl but American Phyco I think goes a step or 2 further! - But it's also hilarious it made me laugh hard! Though the brutality was anything but..very cruel and nasty.

I stg every single one of your videos seems to recommend a book or two that I've just picked up or just read - alongside a ton of stuff I've never heard of! Last time it was The Forgotten Island, which I had just gotten the day before. This time, I just got The Elementals a few days ago, and I just read the story from Books of Blood called In the Hills, the Cities last night. Trust me, it's amazing. Also, Skin is on my SpookySmartBitch Readathon TBR :) I just vibe with your channel! 📚👸

The Girl Next Door, the movie, was super disturbing!!!! You wanted to just stop watching because it was hard to watch, but you can't cause you want to see what happens!! I've never read the book, but now I want to! I've always liked book versions of stories better than the movies, but I don't know about this one! I can't imagine it being any more disturbing!!!! I guess we'll see!

OK, I got most of the way through a really long comment, when KZbin decided to reload the page without consulting me. Lesson learned. Write comments in a text editor, then cut & paste it in. Dammit young lady, now I'm in serious danger of dying of old age at any moment! LMAO Really? Books published this millennium are vintage? All of the books you talked about that I have read, I bought new, when they were published - yes, that includes the 70s ones. :D I was also into vintage horror back then, but I think they qualify as antique now. I haven't read Thomas Tryon's 'The Other', but I liked his next book, 'Harvest Home' quite a lot. Clive Barker's 'The Hellbound Heart' novella id the book they based the film, 'Hellraiser' on. Quite a few of the stories in the excellent 'Books of Blood' books (my copies are the original 6 slim paperbacks release) ended up with film adaptations, notably 'Rawhead Rex'. Michael McDowell left us far too soon. We lost a lot of potential classic books when he died at the age of 49. Somehow, Owl GoingBack managed to pass me by too. I will endeavour to check him out. Shirley Jackson was a genius. 'The Haunting of Hill House' is the best haunted house story ever written, albeit Richard Matheson's 'Hell House' is also great. Another haunted house book worth checking out id Anna Rivers Siddons' 'The House Next Door'. This was also recommended by Stephen King in his excellent overview of the horror genre (at least up until 1981, when it was published) 'Danse Macabre'. Ah, Shaun Hutson... I have a few stories. He was very shy and self-efacing. I could never talk him into doing a book-signing for us, back when I co-ran a bookshop. He wrote schlock horror, but I remember Ramsey campbell tried so hard to convince him that he could easily wite higher quality stuff if he tried. Sadly without success. They made a film of 'The Slugs' . I remember Shaun telling me how he sat at the back for the premiere, with his face in his hands, because it was so embarrasingly bad (it is - you have to see it!). I also used to tease him about his sex life. When you read slugs, you will notice that every time anyone indulges in some sort of sexual activity - be it solo, couple, group, or kinky - they are doomes to die horribly withing the next few pages. I have to wonder what that said about him. I met his wife, Belinda & she was gorgeous! I never quite had the courage to read Strieber's 'Communion', since I hadn't heard a good word about it, but he wrote some pretty good horror novels prior to that. I remember enjoying .The Night Church'. That Bernard Taylor book is one of a depressingly huge number I've owned for around 30 years, but never got around to reading! I know you lean towards the seriously fucked-up stuff, but have you ever read anything my the master of "quiet horror", Charles L. Grant?
