Yeah, Jordan Peterstone should get shit because he constantly attacsk trans people for getting "unapproved" treatments, yet was fine going off to Eastern Europe to do an even more experimental treatment. This guys view on withdrawal is quite odd and impractical to reality. Addiction is an illness, him and his friends are very fortunate that their respective substances weren't deadly to withdraw from, and that they were able to quit the way they did. Although I think there is something to say about JP talking about weak willpower while taking the MOST evasive way to fight his own addiction. If you apply JPs morals to himself he doesn't follow them, I feel they could have emphasised that point a bit more there. Because you know JP would otherwise call addicts weak for needing rehab and similar treatments, if this hadn't come to light.

Reminder that Peterson was on benzos for a long time before his wife developed cancer. From what I remember asked his doc to up his dose and when the doc refused he went doctor shopping to find one that would. Now, I may be conflating that with his shopping around for a doc to help with detox but others remember that little tidbit as well. His Apple cider vinegar symptoms are also benzo side effects.

A fun theoretical experiment called a four year nursing BSN degree taught me benzo withdrawal, depending upon the dose, can kill you since while alcohol withdrawal is much more deadly, benzos affect the same area of the brain - and that's why they can cause death as well. Hey, want to give some background on the coma thing. Benzodiazepine withdrawal can be fatal. In fact, depending on the extent of his dependence it could almost certainly be fatal. The standard of care for bad benzo withdrawal is a medical “coma”. We don’t call it that in medicine but that essentially what it is. You are given a sedative medication to occupy the receptor until the body normalizes. It’s very possible the “medical coma” would have been standard of care. Source: my job as an ICU nurse treating alcohol withdrawal patients (alcohol and benzodiazepines occupy the same receptor, cna both be fatal, and are treated the same way).

he was loosing followers in his most reliable target audience- Evangelical Christians, after it became clear in so many debates he was talking about "personalism" not devotional-theism, and his christian fans saw that as false-faith; So he had a drug use crisis (and used a medical-coma instead of the willpower he promotes to others) and then came back to the evangelical spotlight using their ritual of performative zealotry, crying on air while affirming his historic literalist faith over his rationality... you think any of that is genuine? He knows who butters his bread, and he wants to keep getting paid.

The addiction was probably real. He also seems pretty emotional and easily moved to tears, so that bit doesn't strike me as unlikely either. Are you sure the Evangelicals were getting tired of him? @MrKreinen

@@Anthropomorphic I suppose you haven't seen the conservative christian talk shows that had him on, and their awkwardness w Peterson after he fumbled around with words to questions they answer with zealous simplicity as a fckn insider's mantra; Notice Peterson's now so extreme with his statements like the Bible was the original book, or only book at one time; its the kind of stuff that is completely outside fo the realm of jungian analysis or a rational personalism, but right at home with young earth creationism. Peterson used to avoid statement fo believe in historic literalism, but that was noticed by the Fundigelicals, so now Peterson sings a different tune. Despite his success at speaking to an audience, he's utterly terrified on loosing that influence and status (quite like leaders of fascist movements but without the fear of being literally killed by his own followers). I have no doubt that the addiction was real. Why would he fake that? And I have no doubt that the emotionality is real. What I doubt is that Peterson's sudden switch to historic-literalist rhetoric (despite the intellectual disgrace) and his performative crying Jesus revelation testimonials (literally from out of the more popularly influential evangelicalisms than he comes from), done again and again, each time pretending its spontaneous despite it being repeated as if fresh many times, is just coincidence. Peterson is a true conman. He is well aware of the mistruths he promotes, and even how far is too far to keep his credentials (cause he won't go that far).
@MrKreinen
@MrKreinen 2 жыл бұрын
@@Ass_of_Amalek he was trying to offer his version of Vedanta metaphysics impersonalism and radical personalism (ala the Gita, and Jung, and Krishna Consciousness, etc) to the cult of "faith." I see nothing in Peterson's performance of Historic Literalist Faith that is really any different from the TV preachers (its just that they are nihilistic materialists pretending to be faithful --- if you send them your seed money). That said, Peterson's attempt was doomed form the start cause the Gospels dont have the morals or metaphysics of the Gita or Upanishads.

It's quite instructive to read the early psychologists in some detail. Most of the 'big names' were just awful - spiteful, self-involved lunatics (with a decent IQ, I dare say, but little else to commend them). Of those I've read (or tried to, until their message just grated too much), Adler's view of human nature may be the worst. 'Victim-blaming' on an epic scale... Jung was a rare exception, and of course, he found that he couldn't even bear being around Freud. Burrow was another of the few who had genuine insights (and a pleasant character). The profession somehow managed to largely purge his work from the record though...

Theres this one guy in my hometown who has sent people home after theyve come in the midst of a severe schizophrenic episode and outright told him that they're going to commit suicide. I first encountered him with his psychology lectures which has nothing to do with politics and were very good. A little too into Jung but still very interesting. Then he started the self help stuff which was pretty reasonable if not terribly original. The came the politics, in the early days he was very keen on the idea of having a dialogue and testing your ideas which I could respect. It's just he has got more unhinged over time. I think Eliot's abs completely broke him but he was getting more extreme, even if he always had his obsessions with traditions and heirarchy.

@@TheAcadianGuy Uh, no.. much of the information in his earlier lectures was flat out wrong or badly misrepresented. His reading of Marx was hopeless. His idea of Dostoevsky is woeful by any academic reading. His stanning for both Jung and Nietzsche is pathetic at best, and seriously misleading at worst. As for "Maps of Meaning", it's a total word salad of meaningless bullshit wrapped up in the worst pseudo-meaningful academic jargon of the kind he made his bones criticizing, and most of it's inferences would make a post-modernist blush at their inadequacy. The idea that this man was ever more than a workmanlike psychologist and a pedestrian thinker who stumbled into an academic style that jibed with a certain percentage of his audience is flatly laughable.

Another at the end of the day & usually 1or 2 more during the rest of the night. If I didn't have one for more than 8hrs or so, I'd start crawling out of my skin, my whole body would feel like it was kinda vibrating, it was hard to move around cause you couldn't focus. The only thing he brought up that was somewhat reasonable was the clean your room part. But he used it as stepping stone to further his anti progressive propaganda trough false equivalences. Example: "How can you know how to improve this society when you can't improve your own life?". It is on the same level of BS asking an engineer: "How can you improve technologies when you can't improve your own life?". This was before he began to suggest causal relations between genetics and and a developed understanding of neuropsychology. Which he suggested without publishing a single scientific article in the topic. The guy just makes up BS without have even the tiniest of scientific understanding of the topic. He does not understand neurology. He does not understand endocrinology. He does not understand genetics. He does not understand epigenetics. He does not understand how all these fields come together. Yet he is prepared to make claims that would revolutionize these fields if he was right. This was before he began to BS about post modernism. He does not understand any of the areas of philosophy he talks so passionately about. Doesn't stop him from talking though. All of this has never been about being reasonable or scientific. He is a activist. His activism is to stop our society from changing. He is prepared to say what ever crazy thing he can if he thinks it will help him stop societal change.
