I've given the advice to be a bit more confident to people that are genuinely not confident while they've plenty of reasons to like themselves. But if some guy is already confident and they clearly think they're sooo cool that the rest of the world should know it. The only advice I could give those guys is shut the fuck up and be humble. But in a way that's also just insecurity. Pride, confidence, it's all kind of buzzwords for people that don't have it. Once you do, you don't really care too much about what other people think of you, but only because you know you do good. Not because you don't give a fuck about people around you at all. Which is what these guys mistake "not caring" for. You can both not care if someone thinks you're ugly while at the same time not trying actively to be unlikeable.

Something I found interesting was testimony from Peterson's patients from around the time that he started getting media attention - as in, he pretty much ditched them without giving them a referral to go on Joe Rogan and never came back. That, to me, makes his claims of being a psychologist really bothersome. He so thoroughly ditched the profession as soon as he could that he ditched the baseline professional ethics of not abandoning people in need without a safety net.
@chronometer9931 Жыл бұрын
That's a very strange way of thinking. Jordan Peterson isn't the only Psychologist in Canada and it's their own responsibility to go to another Psychologist.
@FTZPLTC Жыл бұрын
@@chronometer9931 - Actually no, it isn't. It is literally a psychiatrist's responsibility to refer their patients to another psychiatrist if they're not going to continue their treatment. The reasons for that are so obvious that I don't think you need them explaining to you. You can insist that it shouldn't be that way if you want, but all you're proving is that you have as little grasp of the responsibilities of the profession as Peterson does.
@dmob881 Жыл бұрын
There's a bit more to it than that, and its relevant right now. This particular issue was part of a complaint of professional misconduct that was made against him. Peterson closed his practice in 2017 while under investigation for it. On that occasion he avoided a disciplinary hearing by entering into two signed agreements with the CPO. See: 'after-misconduct-complaint-jordan-peterson-agrees-to-plan-for-clinical-improvement' He reneged on both. Or, rather, he had no intention of honouring them since he'd closed his practice was about to embark on a world tour promoting 12 rules. 8 days after the complaint outcome was issued by the CPO. (Feb 2018) Peterson went to British Columbia University where he spoke publicly about this - and other complaints - which he claimed were for s3x&&& impropriety. Let's just say, he wasn't speaking kindly about any of the complainants. A video of this appearance went viral. The young lady who made this complaint was concerned she might be identified and that she and her complaint were being misrepresented: “This is about a bad doctor who didn’t do his job, and I got hurt.” (See Canadaland: When Your Psychologist Goes Viral: How Jordan Peterson’s Fame Affected His Private Practice ). *THIS is the patient he called a liar and 'vindictive' on the Joe Rogan podcast* It's one of the statements involved in the licencing thing.

@@dmob881 Thanks for the additional info. I just think it's important to counter the "COVID brainrot" angle that some people take. Like, he's undoubtedly gotten worse, but he's been a shitty person for a lot longer than he's been Internet famous. IIRC the patients were also pretty damning of his treatment, which I know is probably not that unusual for psychologists and psychiatrists, but still, it paints a picture of someone who seems to have treated duty of care as a suggestion.

Set an alarm, make your bed, take a shower, fold your clothes, etc. Frankly there are some people that this kind of advice can be LIFE CHANGING for, even if it is literally the barebones bottom of the barrel self help advice. But when people attach this kind of genuinely helpful sentiment to a person that is saying unhinged, sexist, racist, homophobic/transphobic remarks, it's REALLY easy to just take that shit at face value. From Biologist, to the Bar association of Canada, economics, fellow psychologists, philosophers, even supermodels are making fun of him. I'd di e of embrassement if I said even half the amount of things he has that were just so wrong and easily debunkable. Just the line about staying awake for 27 days due to Apple Cider would be too much on it's own. Yet for Peterson he just goes on, it's fascinating how one man can have such an undeserved ego and prefers to be ignorant on every topic he talks about, he is the defintion of Dunning Kruger.

Maybe they can collaborate in a Canadian culture thing, have Peterson watch and comment on the sequence in Possessor where Risborough's character becomes unhinged from her self and is pictured in blown out reds and a p*nis, and Peterson just says like, 'werewolf, pilot, woke moralist,' and cries. While his work on addiction behavior was respectable, he also had a Jungian basis that would creep in sometimes, see Chaos Dragon. As psychology sloughs off its pseudo-science roots, he could've kept going with his behavioralist psychology. But when he decided to make being anti-trans his thing, he then went full-hog into the strange bullshit he believes and hasn't looked back. Now he's crying about children's stories because his entire worldview is based around the idea that stories contain the essence of all truth and archetypes show the essence of humanity rather than being, like, easy narrative constructs. There's a possible JP that, when confronted with the idea that a student of his wanted to be called something other than their given name, looked to his behavioralist research and came to a conclusion that how people act makes up the part of their outward facing identity and thus its perfectly understandable that someone would want to change their name. This JP would've followed psychology's scientific refinement and could've remained a respectable professor and researcher doing valuable work. He wouldn't be famous, but he wouldn't be an embarrassing mess. I wish that JP was the one we got.

He deliberately misrepresents facts, often to the point of outright lying, to make some point he thinks makes him look good or supports the bigotry of his audience. He has not been disqualified as a clinical psychologist because of his depression and anxiety, he has behaved unprofessionally and wilfully contravened the rules of a professional body which he agreed to when he joined it so, after many warnings and offers to help him, he has been expelled. It's pretty obvious that he's done this deliberately in an attempt to revive his flagging popularity which, unsurprisingly, he falsely earned by pretending to defend free speech by misrepresenting a proposal to update Canadian law preventing hate speech against the LGBQT community. His whole career is based on lies and the propogation of hate and that's why he attracts weak, lazy, intellectually challenged bigots looking to validate their unpleasant beliefs.

It's like, this is something that bothers me about it technically. Climate is about everything, okay, but your models aren't based on everything, your models are based on a set number of variables. So that means you've reduced the variables, which are everything, to that set. Well how did you decide which set of variables to include in the equation if it's about everything? And that's not just a criticism, if it's about everything your models are not right because you models do not and cannot model everything." - Jordan Peterson

And then suddenly everyone can be just the way they want to be and no-one's able to say anything about it because "you can't model everything". But of course, that only applies to things the left cares about. I think the most important thing to understand about JP, is the claim that made him famous (something like just using the wrong pronouns for someone will be enough cause on it's own to send you to jail in Canada) never came true. It's been a decade (I think) and no-one has been arrested for this... Every claim he has made is at about the same calibre I think. Similarly, he is mostly famous in the UK due to an infamous interview with Cathy Newman, where he went on about lobsters and heirachies. The problem, if you want to claim that the evolutionary pressure exerted on lobsters and humans has a link, you have to go back to a common anscestor. Well, that's a freaking worm, that is mono-genedered (oops)
