Because of Peterson I have, in one year, Fixed my whole life. First, I cleaned my room... Then I cleaned my whole home, then my 4 kids rooms and then kept it clean. Taught them to keep it clean. Then I cleaned up myself, and started working out(lost 30lbs and got strong). Then I fixed my schedule. A few weeks later I stopped smoking. Stopped drinking. I read his book again. 6 months in I enrolled at University of Arizona online to finish my degree...I finished last semeter with straight A's. (Something I have never ever done) and above all I like myself. In 1 year I fixed everything. I cant believe how much better I feel. If you feel like shit... Read his book then clean your room. 👍 hope you do good.

I reckon the reason Jordan Peterson resonates with so many people is he takes stuff that we actually know, deep down in our souls and through his articulate way of speaking brings them out into the light. Like gold and gems brought up from the deep dark places of the earth, and laid out to see for all who would look.

Chris, G. Exactly what I thought. Many things he said I thought myself but he has articulated it so beautifully. With me, it is kind of a brief flesh of insight. With Peterson, it is a whole lecture. It is his job to expand on it, I guess, and he does it really well. A very intelligent man.

'meaning is what makes the suffering worthwhile'- Jordan peterson
@unstoppablezone4980
@unstoppablezone4980 5 жыл бұрын
Lennie Huynh Suffering is the result of adding meaning to pain and chaos. Suffering is never “worthwhile.” Pain can be accepted as a part of living, it cannot be escaped. Suffering is when you make up a story that “this pain “shouldn’t be happening, is wrong, etc. “ Thus Pain is mandatory but suffering is optional. Animals experience pain but they have no story about it. Only humans suffer.

I agree with Rafael. Jordan Peterson is probably the greatest intellectual thinker of our time! And what makes him so extraordinary, is that he has the rare ability to articulate very complex subjects in a way that is very clear and meaningful to everyone listening! He is incredible! Jordan Peterson says "I don't believe in God but I'm afraid he might exist." Not good enough to save himself on Judgment Day. All atheists have taken life for granted without thanking their Creator: messiahjesusbible.com "Those who know don't talk, and those who talk don't know." (Lao Tzu) The U of T email address for him is fake, comes back 'no such address', maybe it's a typo but his talks are rubbish unless you need a daddy to sooth you with platitudes and 19th century moralizing.

My dad says he’s a Buddhist but really throughout my life he’s been a meditating nihilist with a proclivity for depression coupled with of irrational bursts of passive rage. By about the 5:00 mark, Jordan had me tearing up because I remember what it was like growing up with this person as my father. Imagine trying to form an idea of a self and purpose as a young boy, and having a father who at every turn told you the ultimate reality is completely without you to begin with. I’m 27 now and I’m only just starting to dissociate myself from my family. I’ve been listening to Jordan’s lectures for 3 years, I can’t put into words what he’s done for me. I’m not trying to share a sad story or play the victim, I just wanted to share.

He sure has a brilliant sense of consciousness. It's amazing how much he seems to know people need a reminder of a meaning to their lives. Agreed, about ultimate meaning of pain and the benevolence of choosing to be there through the suffering with others. God Himself chose to come down and bear our suffering. He suffered cruel death by crucifixion, which is the most public and painful experience that humanity knew how to inflict. After rising from the dead, He Himself says, "I will never leave you nor forsake you". But He doesn't force this on anyone. He gives us each the choice to receive or reject His complete kindness. We can decide to not love God and not love others, to miss the symphony orchestra of life, and to choose anxiety and pain all the time because we refuse to let our Creator and Redeemer share with us His perfect redemptive benevolence.

At some point, most of us will ask for help understanding ourselves, only to find that it was the passage of time more than the wisdom of the Guru that helped us through a patch of particularly rough water. When I first heard Mr.Peterson I actually wept, spontaneously, the result of one well organized sentence. Some of you know, it’s hard to describe, maybe a sudden overwhelming realization that suffering might be pushed back, an epiphany that he and now we suddenly have sharp weapons of absolute truth to fight back the idiocy. This Man eases suffering in huge swaths as he goes along.

Being a Christian, I have to believe, in a sense, in a time component to meaning. I wouldn't ask what difference will it make one million years form now, but I would and do consider there to be eternal consequence to some activities. Sure, much of what we spend our time on will be burned up at some point. Living a meaningful life is about finding and participating in those things that have eternal value; it seems to me there can be no meaning without eternity. I currently believe (this is a developing thought) that there are two aspects to meaning: hope and relationship; without hope there is only despair, and we were created for the purpose of relationship, both amongst each other and with our creator. So what do you say to the terminally suffering child - I'm with you, and this life is not the end.
@virvisquevir3320
@virvisquevir3320 5 жыл бұрын
Matt Borg - Eternity is NOW. Eternity is not only in the past and in the future horizontally, eternity is also perpendicularly NOW. We are where they cross. What you do NOW matters in eternity. The main point is that there is a hierarchy of values NOW. There is better and worse, there is going up and going down, there is more beautiful and more ugly, there is right and wrong, there is good and evil. There is a reward NOW staying true to good and not going along with evil for expediency. That's the Postmodernism Jordan often rails against: Postmodernists posit a flat nihilism because they claim we cannot find a substance of absolute, unchanging value for everyone at all times, so all is the same value. The point is, it's not a substance, it's a process, a process that transcends any scientific or any other model, the ongoing growth of consciousness, ever improving, a divine process that continues even after the earth is gobbled up by an expanding sun in a billion years.... Cheers!

This is fantastic, and new from Jordan Peterson. He has literally developed a meaning for life from an indisputable core. I've watched Peterson for years, and absorbed much of what he says. He began to repeat, as would be expected. But this is new, and foundational. One can actually build one's entire philosophy of living on this.

A truth must be beneficially uplifting no matter when or where or who it is applied too. This is a great part of measuring truth; it takes it beyond just a few of the facts that we often get hung up on. I am very glad he is talking about this. Folks struggle to find a meaning to life often because they are looking for a meaning that comes from an overlord of some kind. We have a hard time finding meaning from this because meaning is so very personal. What do you persnally find meaningful? What a journey to experience and persue. What is a default to how to live to couple with that? Know that no matter when or who or the circumstance we are in we always have before us the power to help the weaker and to receive help from the stronger; persue with that whatever gives uplifting meaning to you personally.

@vumba1331
@vumba1331 4 жыл бұрын
Tragedy is the start of the learning process from which we grow. When we experience tragedy the question to ask is always 'why?'. Why did it happen, why did it happen to me, was it random or did I perhaps contribute to it occurring? If the former, then there is nothing I can do about it and should move on, if the latter then that is very different and that is when we undertake some soul searching to see why it happened and do I wish as a person to change that habit so that it doesn't happen again, or perhaps not so badly. This is what Jordan Peterson means when he says to clean up your own room first, get your own life together before trying to run someone else's. Been there, done that, helluva experience, meant I needed to unlearn years of parental programming and start to do things the way I really wanted to. Took me a few years to get it done but it was worth it. Sometimes get some flashbacks but know how to handle them now. Start as soon as possible, remember a thousand mile journey starts with just one small step, and be kind with yourself. Good luck.

Thank you for addressing something that can help me to forgive myself for not knowing what they were. Thank you for bringing me home.

Very good example of massively expanding timeframes of reference (in diminishing the meaning of pain) as an absurd, essentially sadomasochistic (my term, not Dr. P's!) approach to the question of meaning. However, there is an inverse use of timeframes that is just the opposite.... For those of us who tend toward perfectionism & perseveration or worry & fear, it can be a helpful practice to approach our disproportionate (and therefore distressing) compulsions with a new habit: asking how much this thing before us will matter -- next year, next month, next week, or even tomorrow. I have found this a helpful sorting mechanism for prioritizing -- both for myself and others....
