Given the fact that, a bigot is defined as a person who is intolerant towards those holding opinions different from their own, I don't think that the protesters would see the irony of their placard.

Good advise is always in fashion. Psychologists and psychology, however, tend to attract either good hearted, intelligent saints or...people working out their crippling emotional problems from the wrong side of the couch. (Sometimes both). In that Dr. Peterson takes the good from psychology, he's a great man. :)

but he's also being demeaning to them.?? And this "protest" illustrates free speech - how free speech of one can repress the freedom of others speech - the inevitable clash?
@robertripsaw2493
@robertripsaw2493 6 жыл бұрын
Lukas Norkūnas Are you asking if he's demeaning them? Or saying that he is? He said they're like 2 year olds. That's exactly right. They ARE like 2 year olds. Are you saying they have some sort of right to do this? It looks like they pepper sprayed the audience. Is that OK? Is it OK to break windows and bite the police? Why do you put "protest" in parentheses? You don't think it's a protest? Do you think they are merely exercising their right to free speech? You seem incoherent to me. What are you trying to say?
@lukasnorkunas7980
@lukasnorkunas7980 6 жыл бұрын
yes, calling them barbarian and stuff. I am saying he is. But since you ask - I'm asking - is he? Since it's obvious you haven't imagined seeing it as demeaning.
@lukasnorkunas7980
@lukasnorkunas7980 6 жыл бұрын
I mean... he's using language, these phrases that are demeaning, or rather - ussually associated with being used demeaningly. But I understand it's not demeaning, since there is a factual basis to say that. But this moralising hijacks the conversation.. I would've loved to hear Bruce Pardy finish. Since his speech was interrupted... And I'm sure not without a reason, the guy who yelled, couldn't hold it in, he burst out. The crowd booed him out - now I wished I heard what he had to say, since it's so important he couldn't hold (or was it all he had prepared just to shout out that "there is no compelled speech"... that's not saying much)... Then it's over, somehow (I hope it was perfume yeah, and no one got harmed? In the comment section I didn't see any affirmation it was pepper spray... But yeah, that's really not ok), then we could hear Bruce Pardy finish. But Jordan now takes over, ok. "protest", I use parentheses I think, because I only want to stress I use the word formally - only to refer to what happened, to the actual physical event, not going to the heart of the matter of what it is a protest and is this it, or it lacks some required attribute to be called such.. It's really not the matter. Free speech has to do with free conduct. And speech is also an action. So in this perspective I analyse and wonder if it's really necessary to say some things, cause it takes time and place. So this moment of meta - he's hijacking the conversation to point out the wrongdoing of someone selfwilled hijacking the conversation. Isn't this the essence of irony? And yeah - who's going to decide for whos speech is free and whose speech is constrained by the free speech of the other? Well, it's spontaneously arranging everyday.
@btat16
@btat16 6 жыл бұрын
Lukas Norkūnas I beg to differ. I think free speech is a more government oriented thing. Free speech is the idea that your words cannot be censored or shut up. That, however, doesn’t mean that organizations can have there own rules. The venue, for example, has rules and standards, and one cannot just do that even if it is “free speech”

He makes a good point about this being 'True Narcissism at Work', because something I've always noticed about people who have meltdowns about issues like this is the contrast between their obnoxious behavior and how poorly informed they are on the issues they claim to be protesting for or against. They claim to be crusaders, but the bottom line truth is they're just looking for attention for themselves.

Like really, trying to figure out what's in those spray bottles completely stole my attention from any of the rest of this video. I'm assuming whatever it was wasn't too bad going by the fact that, were it something harmful or super-gross like cat piss, I personally would have stood up and decked them (or maybe I just personally have a low boiling point?) so it must've been something at the worst mildly annoying, but just using water feels weak for people who hijacked a lecture... Legit though, what do they think they'll accomplish by spraying the crowd? You could possibly argue that hijacking the stage showed that they're just really passionate about whatever the topic was, if perhaps a bit too passionate, but spraying the audience with dubious liquid, people who are just there to listen, paints them as as assholes and would make anyone who might've considered what they were trying to say dismiss anything coming from them on principle. You don't win people to your cause by attacking them, idiots.

Has nothing to do with protesting your beliefs. It has to do with conducting yourself like an adult. If you want to hold a peaceful protest outside and tell people what you believe in and what your fighting for then that's conducting yourself like an adult. But to barge into a conversation like they did is just clearly disrespectful and rude and he summed up there behavior perfectly. I think you were just missing the point as to why he was saying "What's wrong with kids today?"
@griz063
@griz063 6 жыл бұрын
This is a natural consequence of children raised to think they are so special that they cannot be wrong -- ie, they are right all the time. And anything they don't like, or that doesn't cater to them, is automatically wrong. Check out the spirit of the distractors: angry, arrogant, self-entitled, self-righteous, disrespectful to many just so they can get their 2 cents worth in. Impatient, factious. Then check out the calm demeanor and civility of those seeking truth, rather than agenda or ideology. There is such a zeal to "change the world" . . . that they don't notice they're changing it for the worse. Reprehensible on Queens University that there was no security to deal with these event-crashers -- and no consequence like official reprimand or even expulsion for such a repugnant display . . . "in their name"??

JPs composure and desire to genuinely help others is what makes him remarkable. People whom protest in a world where they have everything they need, are trying to milk it for everything they can. It's another form of trying to gain power and control, and it's frightening that people that speak about peace use the same consciousness that created enslavement. We as Humans are not above the pettiness of our Animal Instinct, but we're certainly smart enough to see what we are doing. If they'd actually listen, they might have their lives changed and can let go of their desire for external control (which is an illusion and simply stated just is, ridiculous to attempt and requires both strong internal abuse and external, aka it makes you an ass all around) as they realize they could utilize that in a way that serves actual opportunity and does not just strengthen their own personal ignorance. The only ignorance that can truly exist is ignorance of ones self. This is why Psychology is so imparative to our species. We have the power to control masses of resources and even others, if we don't understand that the way we respond reflects directly our psychological beliefs of ourself, we're just chasing our own tail.

I checked, too and the recommendations under the full lecture are VERY weird for me, too. First weird thing is, there are only 5 recommended videos and the ones that get recommended are very weird videos for children one of which is arabic (I don't speak arabic). It's perfectly normal for every other video. Thank you for pointing it out, I will keep a close eye on that.

I just pinned the comment, just to see if other people are experiencing this and if there is a reasonable explanation for it. Keep in mind we are talking about the original lecture (link in the description).

Consider always the possibility that weird disrupters of accepted forms of discussion are often paid mercenaries, fake ideologues, which is one reason why their message seems so off. The identities of such ones should at least be looked into, in a journalistic way. And spraying, pushing, throwing things should be treated as acts of assault. Plenty of laws exist regarding these 100% unacceptable behaviours.

There’s a better and more productive way. It’s may not be as simple as high jacking a platform but the residual effects are long-lasting and effective. Besides they weren’t very strategical. After they captured the audience attention, yelled, screamed, voiced their concerns than what? Everyone ignored them as if they were real live adult toddlers. Their parents must’ve been the parents that rewarded outbursts behaviors and temper tantrum because as children we were all taught that’s a no no.

In the US, spraying someone technically meets the requirements of assault and battery. Not sure about Canada. Either way, I wish someone would've floored one of them.
