I guess it is fine to compare ourselves to others in order to reflect on ourselves, how we feel or to revisit our goals. What is not healthy is to force ourselves to be a copy of other individuals or copy their lives and betray our values, our nature. Going after things which make other people happy will not satisfy us because we all have different needs and different skills. And well... actually Jordan Peters on was not the first one to understand that comparing ourselves to others is not the best way to grow 😉 However, I am very THANKFUL that he published this video 👍 As I was in high school I read in a book from Friedrich Nietzsche that we should not compare ourselves to others, but rather COMPARE THE FORMER PERSON OF OURSELVES TO THE PERSON WHO WE ARE TODAY: see our own development. Here some Comparing yourself to others: Quotes Write your OWN phrase, make it yours and say it out loud from time to time! “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” ― Oscar Wilde “When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everyone will respect you.” ― Lao Tzu “Comparison is the root cause of all evil. Why compare when no two people are alike?” ― Haresh Sippy, Indian industrialist “After so many years struggling to keep up with you, I finally realized we’re not even running the same race.” ― Scott Stabile, writer and speaker "Trying to be someone else is a waste of the person you are." ― Marilyn Monroe “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson, American transcendentalist philosopher “Other people’s lives seem better than yours because you’re comparing their director’s cuts with your behind the scenes.” ― Evan Rauch “Personality begins where comparison leaves off. Be unique. Be memorable. Be confident. Be proud.” ― Shannon L. Alder, life coach and author “You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing.” ― Oprah “Being a successful person is not necessarily defined by what you have achieved, but by what you have overcome.”- Fannie Flagg, American actress and author “Always be a first rate version of yourself and not a second rate version of someone else.” - Judy Garland, American actress, singer, and dancer “To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.” - E.E. Cummings, American poet, painter, and author “The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.” - Friedrich Nietzsche “There is nothing more awful, insulting, and depressing than banality.” - Anton Chekhov, Russian writer “If you cannot be a poet, be the poem.” - David Carradine, American actor “It is better to be hated for who you are than loved for something you are not.” - French writer “Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live.” - Gianni Versace “Comparison is a slippery slope to jealousy.” - Danielle LaPorte, Canadian author and speaker “Comparison with myself brings improvement, comparison with others brings discontent.” - Betty Jamie Chung, Chinese author “Where’s your will to be weird?” - Jim Morrison

This CD has three separate relaxation/meditation sessions on it kzbin.infoUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq guided by a very pleasant and direct male voice. Unlike so many other products of its type, this CD does not have bad synthesizer music, does not feature a phony or affected style of narration, and does not make any bogus claims to be subliminal or to re-train the brain or any of that balderdash. What you get is 1. a guided meditation for getting into a pleasantly relaxed state of body awareness while taking a stroll (superb for those easing back into a fitness routine slowly after an illness or injury) 2. A nice long breath-awareness relaxation session that if followed diligently can put you into very deep states of full-body relaxation and mental calmness, and 3. a buddhist-inspired meditation session designed to help you develop and maintain feelings of loving kindness toward not just yourself and your friends, but toward people you don't even like. The CD makes no claims to be designed for advanced meditators or for buddhists or hindus/yoga practitioners looking for very deep and esoteric stuff. It is geared more toward the average person who just wants to develop the habit of relaxation and stress relief through natural, healthy means. him, if you happen to be reading this, keep up the good work fella, and I love your accent. I would also like to note that I have never fallen asleep while listening to this product. I would like to kindly suggest to the reviewer who said this CD makes him fall asleep, that he might want to get checked to see if he has a sleep disorder, or if he is simply not setting aside ample time for restful sleep at night. A healthy person getting adequate rest at night should be able to go into deep states of mental relaxation without dozing off, if not all the time, then most of the time.

@@obiwanjebroni505 Its simplistic yes, but its very practical to use in a broad sense but you can dial this idea in to be very specific. Its not the same as simply be happy without doing something that will create happiness. As Mr Petersen has pointed out as useless. Being better at something or everything instead of being bitter at something or everything is a more practical and productive act of doing something better so you dont end up bitter. Case in point: I use to be a little self concious and a little bitter when I looked in the mirror. I was little overweight, not much. But this extra weight subconciously made me a little bitter and litterally and figuratively weighing me down. One bitter day at 5AM on the elliptical, I decided to stop being bitter and start doing things better fo the shallow but significant purpose of looking better. I looked at my nutrition, cut out carbs by 3/4, counted calories, and worked out cardio 7 days per week and recently added weight training. 5 months later Im negative 25 pounds and went from feeling like a dud to a stud. I now have 6 pack abs that I havent seen since high school over at least 20 years ago or more that I forgot that I once had. Anyways. Hope this helped. Best of luck to you. So please dont bitter, be better.

Dear Friends. I typically don’t share on these types of forums because it creates tension, but I just watched Jordans video where he has been wrestling with the question about a divine character, who transcends all time and space. His Journey has been one of conflict and struggle, and I for one can appreciate his honesty. I don’t know anyone if you here today, but I Hope beyond all Hope that you would take a moment and view that video. If I am being totally transparent, I have not lived my life in many instances like I actually believed in a HIGHER POWER. I am A Jew. I am ever so grateful to HaShem for the honest gut level Common Sense I have found in Dr. Peterson's teachings. He does the finest dissertations on some of the most complex issues we all deal with. To compare this mans reasoning and common sense with that of King Solomon , is not to discredit the wisdom found in either man. We , in these later times , are possibly more blessed because we have that which is written and the Living Word of Messiah Yeshua and now through Dr Peterson's Reason at our disposal. I cannot express my gratitude sufficiently with words. We as Men are blessdd ! I am humbled. Thank you , from my Heart.

Exactly! Much of what Peterson says about depression I've heard from therapists before -- goal setting, small steps, etc. What made a difference for me was listening to his comments on being a man. I needed to man up. There's a soft side to therapy and there's a hard side. It's a feminine/masculine mother/father dichotomy. Each has its place, and one individual can't fulfill both roles equally well. I reached a point where I had gained as much as I was going to from the soft side of therapy. What I needed was a cogent, no punches pulled kick in my tail, and I found that in Peterson. What I experienced in my depression was that my desires and my actions became disconnected, like a broken driveshaft in a car. Peterson's sharp words pierced my fog and drove me reforge that connection once more. It's not that I didn't want to remake that connection. I did. But Peterson helped me to remember what I had forgotten: If I don't like where I am, get on a bus (figuratively) and go somewhere else.

It’s taken me so long to truly understand how miserable I am. For a very long time I’ve been abusing my body, wasting my time, ignoring my problems while trying to be there and fix the problems of all of my loved ones. I never realized that my own happiness is important too. As I listened I realized I had forgotten what it was like to cry as I shed the first tears I’ve shed in years. I’ve realized that I have truly ignored myself to make sure everyone else was okay, while neglecting myself and my own wants and needs for my own future. I’m always too tired to go on that run, or to mentally exhausted from work to do that chore. I’m tired of the excuses, it’s about time I take care of myself as much as I take care of my family. Thank you, Jordan, listening to this was the first time I’ve felt true heartfelt emotion in a long time.

These days the best way to come into the market space is by reading, studying, being patient, and seeking guidance when necessary, due to my line of work I can’t handle my portfolio so I just copy the trades of my FA. These types of lessons are the seeds of meaningful change, the more we understand and the more we plant, the more chance some will take root within us and propagate, making fertile ground for more to take root, we reap what we sow. And personally, these seeds sometimes can take days, weeks, and in some cases months to internalize and manifest into actionable behavior and attitude changes, but no matter how long they take, it always amazes me to see one of those seeds that was purposefully planted, finally emerge or bloom in my life.

I used to struggle with knowing if God was pleased with me based on results (as though God was like my father). When I was able to change my mind(repent and have a God like understanding) I came to the conclusion that as long as I seek His wisdom in my decisions that he is still smiling, the results have no bearing on whether He is pleased with me or 😃. Edit, one of my sayings is; I have failed at more things than most people will ever try, and because of that, I can do more things than most people can do. Be blessed.

Dr. Peterson has given me guidance and patience to mentor a teen boy into a man of integrity, resourcefulness, and respect, while living in a caustic environment his parent makes him suffer through her choice of family she has chosen for him. In order to meet this challenge, I have to understand his meaning then translate into what a child can understand through action and practice until understood. That's the geometric growth of society this man generates. Not linear through each individual who become woke to his lectures but the cascade of those woke people sharing his wisdom.

I would guess that Peterson's cogent, impassioned articulation is something he worked hard on to develop. It's part of his inner monster. It's a craft that can be learned, not just an innate you-have-it-or-you-don't talent. If you want to articulate like Peterson, do the work needed to make yourself into that. You just have to want it bad enough to walk the hard path that leads to that end.
