@@schmingusss Think about the point where the dragon starts to chase the bread. The dragon (problem) is getting so big from being ignored it is now starting to negatively effect people outside of the house as well. When we choose to ignore our problems instead of facing them, they grow and grow until everything around us, including people start to feel the effects. Edit - Think about a coworker who has a fixable problem they like to complain about. You wouldn't have to hear about it if they just fixed it.

Knightwalker The One Its equivalent to a child who hides his problems until it grows so big, that it explodes. So in this case, the dragon(problem) grows so big in the child that it shakes the house(family). So essentially, the kid just wanted the problem to be noticed. Which I can relate to on a personal level.

That's genius. the majority of humanity will not be remembered past their children. What is genius, the ability to create or the laying off the foundation for a created future? Either way, I wager that 100 years from now your grand children will not remember you. someone will be reading Maps of Meaning though.

''Also it's not wrong admiring him, don't you think?'' It definitely isn't, but fanatically idolizing him may either bring about serious blind spots on your part, or may just as well reveal underlying blinds spots which have led you to generate a distorted perception of the role he oughta fulfill, and which he is able to fulfill in your life, being not the only one of his kind for there exist rather many minds like him, even more proficient, eloquent, or holding certain attributies more advanced than his, while in other ways being less erudite or so. You just gotta know where you look, but it certainly isn't all that bad of a starting point to worship a man of such greatness, certainly not, though beware of projecting longings for a father-figure, for example.

@introspectah
@introspectah 7 жыл бұрын
''Even in my every day life I see the same pattern'' Of course you see the same patterns, josh, all of us do; it's the effect of pattern recognition as result of an actively run confirmation bias which constantly, near autonomously, seeks to consolidate its conviction or presumptions about ''the world''; which is not an accurate reflection of ''the world'' at all, but much rather is a projected representation of your version, interpretation and sensory experience of the world. ''So what are your intentions?'' I'd find it baffling if you would truly not have grasped the intention which i had so clearly put across, but just in case, i'll paraphrase: Well, to keep it simple, i might just quote my self, and see what about my original comment you had failed to comprehend: ''In case you actually want to fulfill your natural craving, i can hook you up with plenty resources that will most certainly restore your confidence [in the reliability, beauty, splendor, loyalty, strength and great character of so many women out there]. Question then follows; maybe you don't want to try to disprove your easily refutable presumptions of the world, and regarding the nature of some of its key protagonists, because such an act of inevitable correction might seriously destabilize the already liable firmness of your foundation?'

Wish I had this philosophy 15 years ago. People always give this advice, "just ignore them they will go away". Nope. Of course sometimes it seems that's true, but it's usually After acknowledging them and Then ignoring, which isnt really ignoring. But in the real world you can also sometimes feed the dragon by paying it attention... so it's difficult. I suppose it's how you pay attention to it.

there are three forms of Jordan Petersons. the first is this version, the anecdotal free thinker and explorative Jordan, who is young and eager. There is the Older Jordan who is contemplative, and emotional, and wise and precise. Then there is bearded Jordan who is brilliant badass, consistent, and austere. This makes me think about the home I grew up in and the home I live in now. Things that were ignored do indeed grow and grow until you cannot ignore them anymore, but by then of course it finds the weakest point and brusts out as anger or some other unhelpful fiery emotion.

10:38 is chilling. The thought of coming home one day and having all that I’d worked for throughout my entire life gone in an instant. My house, my assets, my family just gone. And worst of all; it’s entirely my fault. Because if it isn’t my fault, I can curse God and die (figuratively speaking), but to have it be the result of my own day-to-day neglectfulness both knowingly and then eventually unknowingly as my guilt gets swept under the rug by the toils of the day. Only to have it come back full force out of nowhere is more than I (or most people) could bear.

Modern divorce does it to guys every day. "You're a man, you can rebuild". Tell that to the guy I knew ehose wife divorced him because she was just bored of marriage. He was 3 years off retirement. Without even LOOKING at the paperwork a male judge said "I believe all assets have been divided equally" when they obviously hadn't. He got out of their with a caravan/camper trailer and a crap van ready for the scrap heap.

I looked this book up on Amazon and apparently so did everyone else too. Most of the reviews mention finding it through Jordan Peterson. The author must surely find it amusing that their childrens story has found a new audience with adults around the world listening to a Candian college professor.

You'd think that after watching this you could just stand up, sigh and realize what you've been doing wrong, to then go about and fix it, but that is extremely difficult to do when the problem surrounds your entire family and not one time are you all in agreement, which is what is needed to take care of the dragon.

Going through this comment section is a little unnerving. Why is everyone trying to attribute his battles against SJW's of today, to a lecture which occurred in 2002 in regards to parenting. This lesson implied that parents should not ignore what their kids are telling them (its childhood psychology), yet everyone attempts to convert this lesson into one which applies to the political sphere. Signed, An anti-sjw Libertarian.

Robert Naylor It does apply. SJW’s today ate the result of them and their parent having Peter Pan syndrome. They’ll never grow up. I was an SJW, but when I had kids, I couldn’t raise them like a child would raise them. I gave up on politics altogether now. I can’t be with social justice warriors or go into the warrior’s justice social. Both side of the isle are the same thing, just backwards.

Everyone who watches this liked it and feels empowered to start hating on the sjw’s because a greater mind than theirs validated their beliefs. Like a kid relying on their dad or something like that. But people will always refer to what’s going on in their time as-well since JP has become more popular with my generation and younger.

Haha the tow truck is towing away the bakery truck at the end! Enjoyed that story. It reminds me of another that I read as a kid called "Because a small bug went Ker-choo" (or something of the kind) about how small problems cause incrementally bigger and bigger problems, and eventually lead to chaos. (A bit like the old lady who swallowed a fly, except I guess that's kind of the opposite to a problem that grows because you ignore it.)

Wow... almost brought me to tears. There's nothing defining about life than this, in my opinion. I quote here from Adventure Time, "Don't let the dragon drag on". Being to slowly and steadily notice it... look within ourselves with our surroundings. Slay the dragon if you have to. Negotiate, befriend and ally with the dragon if you have to. Embrace and celebrate the dragon if you have to. Just don't let it do only one thing: unconsciously kill us all.

This video has been a massive help to me. It’s amazing when human experience is put to story how it becomes much more applicable in life. In the last two days I addressed a couple small dragons, and today I took on 3 fairly ominous ones. They do get smaller as soon as you look at them. Also I’ve found myself less frustrated by my more painful emotions. I’ve sort of accepted them as a part of life that can be limited in their destructive tendency if I simply pay attention to the matters causing the pain. Got a few more scary dragons to look at soon.

A spot-on message. I feel like he wrote this book himself. He constantly refers to anomalous and unexpected things emerging in your life as “the dragon of chaos.” And he routinely says that it’s the worst kind of chaos that happens when you live the consequences of your own actions and you know you put yourself there. When you put off things till another day that you could deal with in that moment but you’re too lazy, you’re effectively making your future self weaker by giving them something to deal with that they wouldn’t have had to otherwise. Because future you will have problems associated with that day too- which is a tragedy- but when those problems of the day are compounded with the shirked problems from yesterday, their convergence- and the knowledge that you could have avoided it- is hell.

My wife and I have been together for 20 years. In that time all.of our friends have split or divorced. One of the reasons we believe we have stayed the course (aside trust etc) is because we are always upfront an honest about everything, even if it's a difficult or even painful subject. Nothing is ignored for long, if at all.

Priorities also help! My parents are still together as well after 35+ years. All my dad's other siblings aren't. Yet, over the years they and even his parents always criticized how he lived his life. Education, financial, lifestyle, etc. And, even during those years, they would call him for advice, only to try their own method again and again. Watching it over the course of 35+ years has been very eye opening.
