Dr. Jordan Peterson is a saint. I truly feel badly for the people who are so vehemently against him, for the fact that they don’t actually listen to what he is saying.

Notice i say you a lot? because it is up to YOU to get YOUR house in order. Don't blame your neighbor, your boss, your family. the only person you can control or change is staring at you in the mirror every day. This lecture really helped me see clearly how I can make my partners life better by really paying attention to what he says and prioritising the time we spend together. After 12 years as a couple I think I have become guilty of taking him for granted and I think I have caused him to feel lonely and invisible. I was lucky to have two very active and involved parents, but his were divorced and self interested and I would characterise them as having been neglectful. I am very happy to realise that there are things I can do to show him he is really of value to me, because he is, but I can see how I may not be letting him know that. Thank you for communicating these ideas in such a meaningful and compassionate way.

@AthenaTheWolf3 жыл бұрын
@ that’s why I clicked on the video. You can seek all the help in the world but from my experience and from what I’ve gathered, you can only rely on yourself. You can’t expect others to save you. That being said if you expect me to seek psychiatric help I think that’s well intended but unfortunately these institutions can only help you to a certain degree which a lot of it can be discovered on your own with careful study and practice. The type of help that requires a transaction to be paid is corrupt. I know friends who receive weekly “check-ups” and don’t understand that they are only being manipulated in order to have a reoccurring customer to pay them for their service. I find that to be disgusting. Furthermore, many of these institutions are built around gynocentric ideologies that are unhealthy for men who wish to self-actualize.

Brother, provide yourself with every chance possible to come out of a suicidal hut, no outcome could ever be worst then reaching a destination like that not only for yourself, but for everyone you might have ever cared about. Don't over rationalize it, just bring yourself to move in the right direction anyway you can. A chemical balancing can be a necessary jump start. Hopefully soon you could start laughing at your own set backs on this persuit and keep moving forward - and that's what much of life is, according to me.

@@rockym.g.3827 I also read that book and saw parallels between that story and my own life. It’s a bit cringe which is to put it lightly. The future looks more and more like a dystopian novel and as someone trying to practice “sense-making” with the world, I find myself going in circles. Atheism - nihilism - absurdism - embracing an ideology/religion - then repeat. It’s no wonder people get hooked on drugs or find ways to distort their reality like binge a show or play a video game (escapism). I know I sound somewhat bitter or maybe unhelpful but I’m only giving you my personal lived experience and not as advice but to pass on whatever wisdom life has burden me with.

I'm currently in the middle of a deep family crisis. I don't know how it will end. I just know that I can making it worse by letting the crisis substitute my presence in the world. I am something different than the problems I have. And you can be a relief to anything, anyone, something of value endangered by something else. Find something or someone to take care of. Make their existence better, in every small way you are able to. That will take you out of bed....and you'll be able to smile away your pains, because you will be the relief of suffering for someone else.

Perhaps what JBP said in the beginning could help. Take a piece of paper, and write down the things that most bother you that you feel you need to work on right now. Prayer may help too, even if you are not religious, it still may be of practical benefit. Pray for a bit of peace. Try to find moments where you are just sitting with your self and feeling peace - not distracted, no. But seek inner peace might be a way to go. It may be what you need to fight against anxiety, so that you may recompose yourself and move on ahead, without your fears and anxieties getting you paralysed. Also find something or someone to take care of, just like Enrique said, that helps a lot.

@jaden36703 жыл бұрын
Something odd is that too often in school I felt like I was treated as competent. And at work I’d get treated more like a kid. Its odd because it’s pretty much the opposite of Peterson’s experience. At 1:23:00 ish the being awake thing with Chris. I think it was definitely a smell. I know I can tell vaguely how people are feeling based on smell. If the persons emotions are stronger then the smell is more noticeable. I really like the point about people not being intrinsically wrong. I think if you push that idea you get something like equality. To summarize toxic masculinity/femininity is just poor ways of thinking? An argument that may have been useful with Chris is pointing out his values. He seemed to value self and nature but didnt seem to challenge those values. Although that may give him more reason to kill himself.... so maybe not. In a social work class I had last year we were asked how to help a single mother handle lacked money. The options we were given were to look for help, turn off power for a week, or get rid of their pet. I think rationally the best option would be to let the power go out. But nobody else saw that as an option. I dont know the Lotts story he referred to at the end but the moral seems to be preferred ignorance is ok.
@rockym.g.38273 жыл бұрын
The perverse thing with valuing too much what I could be over what Im at right now is that shame comes quick. So yeah that value notion needs to be thought through carefully... Mediated with humility and mb some self mercy.. But like how to forgive yourself thats the question.. About the smell thing idk, but I happened to know that things were seriously bad just by feeling as well. So strange.

Lot was a Godly man with a wife and children living in Sodom and Gomorrah, a place of evil, a place where rape, theft and killing was the norm. Angles came to take Lot and his family out of the town and men came to the door and wanted to rape the angels but Lot would not allow it, he even offered his daughter instead (they did not get her either) the angels blinded the men at the door and led Lot and his family out of the town and warned them not to look back. God destroyed the town with his wrath but while it was happening Lots wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt. *when God says don’t do something then don’t do it because something bad will happen, without fail*

Masculinity is not toxic. There are no such things as toxic and non-toxic masculinity. Masculinity is wonderful, responsible for every innovation and comfort we enjoy, and should be celebrated. The term toxic masculinity is nothing more than anti-male hate speech and there is a danger in labeling some masculinity as toxic and some as non-toxic. The danger lies in that all masculinity will be labeled toxic unless it serves to benefit women e.g. toxic masculinity is having cigars and watching boxing with the boys (or whatever you enjoy that provides no benefit to her) and non-toxic masculinity saving her from alligators in a flooding burning building or fixing her car.

When I would volunteer at the Animal Shelter, spend time talking with and playing with the dogs, I felt meaning. When I am a volunteer running coach (GOTR) for 12-14 yr old girls, I feel purpose and meaning. Can you find a place or find a bit of time to volunteer your precious time to give of your talents? Maybe tutor youth? Maybe make socks, beanies for old people? Maybe shovel snow for the disabled? Maybe make greeting cards and place them anonymously on a windshield. In 2013 I was at a low point in my existence and that morning I had an argument/breakup. I went to get some food alone, walked back to my car and a construction-paper, child-made card was on my car. @@mahmoudhazzaa2015 catholicism and islam are two sides of the same antichrist coin. I provided a lengthy comment that was deleted, so i wont bother going into it again. Stop idolizing a war monger, muhammad was a trash human being.

This picture with Peterson's arm around a bigot wearing his vile bigotry on his shirt has imprinted such a bad picture of someone who I admire is something I can't shake. Don't tell us so directly about an ugliness and hatred in your heart.

The guy might be gay, and terrified of the very real and simple fact that he'd be killed by such people. Perhaps he's already been attacked by them, or knows someone who has. Making them the real bigots. Its not bigotry to be scared of such an ideology and its followers.
