The lakes in New York are gorgeous! I'm from Long Island and love the beach but moved upstate after going to Cortland for undergrad and now Syracuse for grad school. It's so fun to spend a few days at a lake house or at someone's camp. Plus who doesn't love a good wine slushy lol.
