i’m 13 years old and i was recently diagnosed with clinical depression. a month ago, i reached a plateau and nothing i did felt worth the effort, and nothing inspired me. making an art journal was such a great decision. its so easy and it makes me feel like i’ve done something for the day, even if it’s just recording my thoughts and gluing some papers down.

You should be extremely proud of yourself and for doing positive things for yourself. I hope you keep feeling better and always remember that you can always reach out if you are struggling. i really like the point you made about art being a series of decisions. it's so easy to get stuck and wonder if you're doing "the right thing", so you end up not making any. i'll definitely refer back to this point the next time i feel like i'm dwelling too much on something. thank you jordan 💛

As a guy who has previously thought journaling wasn't a thing worth time I was completely wrong. I had just started playing the game red dead redemption 2 which I had gotten the curiosity to start a journal. It is also helpful for my stress and loneliness.

This was such a well made, thoughtful video that I didn't know I needed to watch. I am someone who struggles with indecision and I never thought that art could help me overcome it. I am starting an art journal today for the first time and this video was really inspiring. Thank you for creating this, much love to you sister
@carriecardwell6084 жыл бұрын
I am so so glad I ran across this video! I have been wanting to get into art for about a year-and-a-half. I have collected watercolors, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, neocolor II (that are on the way), distress crayons, alcohol markers, different pencils and pens... I bought an art Journal that looks exactly like the one you bought except it has a cardboard cover instead of black. Oh, I also have watercolor paper and some smooth Bristol paper as well as some mixed media paper... I've watched hundreds of tutorial videos... I have basically done everything (and then some) in order to start art projects and art journaling... Yet I have done nothing more then a few doodles in my mixed media notebook. My art Journal is sitting at the foot of my bed with a black bag of all of my materials (well most of them)... I keep saying to myself over and over again that "today I'm going to do something in my art Journal," and I want to... Really bad! What you said makes so much sense... One of my biggest faults is that I am super indecisive. I have such a hard time making decisions. It never occurred to me that that was the main problem... I knew it had nothing to do with my desire to do art work... I just don't know where to start. After watching your video and hearing what you had to say, I now know that it's okay that I don't know where to start, I just need to start. That's where the indecisiveness problem is. Today, I REALLY am going to make an art journal entry... I have no idea what, LOL... But that's okay. I have all the materials... I may close my eyes and just pick up one and then start with that. Anyways, I realize this is a really long comment... It just really opened my mind as to what my issue has been all along! Thank you for making and posting this video ... Please keep up the good work, you really are inspiring people ️ ❤️

Jordan, I love this video. First of all, it is so wonderful to actually see a person and a cat and you in your studio/home/art store. I have watched so many videos on art journaling, and they all have something good about them, but I get very tired of just watching someone's hands. Also, the simplicity of what you did with your new art journal makes me feel like I can do it too! I really like the advice from your art teacher. Thank you for sharing their wisdom. I will more visit your videos again. Keep posting your creativity.

A question... what is the difference between scrapbooking and art journaling???
@wonderwonder304 жыл бұрын
Nothing really, an art journal is whatever you want it to be, that’s what great about it. I guess you could say a scrapbook is a little more decorated with purpose and organizing and an art journal is snippets of your life in a more free way...I guess.
@dianemccarty29964 жыл бұрын
I think of a scrapbook as mostly a decorative photo album, and an art journal as mostly an art diary.
@uniquewhimsy6224 жыл бұрын
Diane McCarty that’s correct. Scrapbook is for memories and art journal is for expressing creativity.
@LearnGermanwithMarzipanfrau4 жыл бұрын
And if it's a scrajournal it's an art diary with photo memories?

Your professor's interpretation of what art is... is inspirational. One of the reasons I've been running away from art is because I was plagued by indecision.
