The Quarantine story was funny. Nobody in rural America cared about covid. No states to my knowledge had any sort of fine for breaking quarantine. I worked at a state forensic psych hospital for their police department and we were at max capacity for patients the entire time. What patients that did pass away had their empty bed space filled within a week. We had to transfer patients all over the state to smaller inpatient facilites. Some of these facilities were in towns in the middle of nowhere that had a couple dozen beds. You go in the gas stations that served food and you'd have a table full of old timers having breakfast or lunch with no masks on, not social distancing, and just generally not caring. I got told a couple times "Officer you don't need to wear that face diaper if you don't want to". Meanwhile in the cities I had to break up a fight between two guys at a kroger when I was off duty over a busybody getting onto another shopper for wearing a neck gaiter and not a surgical or N95. The giy with the neck gaiter said something to the effect of mind your own business. The busybody tried to pull the other guy's cart away saying he wasn't allowed to be in the store if he didn't have a mask on. Mind you these are both customers. I pulled the two guys apart (both grown men in their 40s or 50s) and told them to shut up and get to a different part of the store. The busybody asked me why I didn't arrest the guy with a neck gaiter or kick him out of the store because "you have to wear a mask it's the law". I had to explain to this guy who thought he knew everything what actually had been said regarding masks. The governor of our state had made an executive order requiring masks be worn indoors, but there was zero enforcement or penalty behind it. If Kroger didn't like the other guy's neck gaiter they would have a manager request to trespass neck gaiter man or have a member of management bar him from entry. This guy nearly got into a fist fight trying to enforce rules that didn't exist in the first place.

I hate it when the man in the story don't have any BALLS ,GUN ETC.

you came to horror stories looking for ballsy action stars? i think you have no idea how the genre works. horror works because you take average people and put them in terrifying situations so the audience gets horrifed imagining themselves in the same situation. if you make the protagonist a ballsy heavily armed john wick type then you remove the terror from the audience.
@Cainus44 Жыл бұрын
@trahapace150 I dunno. In a lot of these situations I'd be armed, given I'm usually armed most of the time anyway. I also have wilderness survival skills and am physically strong and experienced in fighting since my friends and I fight each other on camping trips all the time. I'm still just an average joe and a tradesman though. And I've read plenty of great horror in which the protagonist is more skilled than me at these things. To me it's an unfortunate trope in horror that a protagonist is simply weak. Strong men can be beat or terrified too, they just have a better chance of survival. It doesn't remove the terror and it's more interesting to me to see how preparation, strategy, or pure brawn can fail in the face of some supernatural terror.
