I recently answered questions that were submitted on the social media platform - www.thinkspot.com. This is my fourth Q&A of 2021: What’s the Most Effective Way of Overcoming Self-Deception?
Thinkspot is still in beta, and would greatly appreciate your participation. These answers were also released early on Thinkspot, so if you want an earlier view of these Q&A's you can see them on Thinkspot a few days early.
Some of these questions have been edited for concision and grouped together in order to answer the broader topic.

0:36 What's the most effective of overcoming self-deception? 9:15 As a woman I have fantasies about bad boys. Is this something I need to mature out of or realize in my sex life in different ways? 14:21 What did I teach my children about sex? Is there a healthy middle ground for them without being naively celibate or damagingly promiscuous, and how did you communicate that? 21:26 As it pertains to beauty standards, do you think that progressive social pressure can overcome what appears to be our ingrained attraction to, for example, physical markers for biological health? 28:15 I am worried I will never find love. What do I do? 30:32 I'm having a hard time discipling myself. I particularly struggle to establish a schedule. How did you make a schedule so that many of your highest goals can be attained? I know that you have talked about making a schedule on many occasions, but I would like a look inside your schedule from a time that you think was your prime. 40:24 How do I know if I'm a good or a bad person? I struggle with viewing myself as a good human being who deserves good things in return even though I try my best to be decent and add light into this world in a multitude of ways. What are some steps to take in order to become better than the person I was in the past? 45:55 I'm 40 but I feel like a child watching everyone around me get older and die. So I'm homesick for the past instead of accepting the terrifying present. How can I stop mourning the past? 49:41 What's your advice to someone who took your "Understand Myself" test and scored 0 on agreeableness, but still recognizes the need to collaborate with many people? 55:38 I'm 25. I had a drug problem when I was young in my late teens and early 20's. I stole money on multiple occasions. I don't even know who some of those people I stole from are and can't repay them. However, given the instances where I could apologize or repay I feel completely unable to; I'm too ashamed. This bothers me all of the time. I can't sleep or do anything. I really hate myself. I think that I'm a rotten person and don't know how to handle it. Do you have any advice for this? 1:00:58 Why do we need to contemplate our own malevolence? What if you get stuck in it? How do you move forward after becoming aware of it, especially if you have actually done something bad (not speaking of criminally here) 1:08:10 You spoke once about going into the deep to save your father but I never knew my father at all, so who is it that I am saving? 1:10:43 Does life have meaning without God? Can life be meaningful without God and without eternity? 1:14:29 As an art student, I wonder how to create a poetic piece deeply storied and metaphoric without becoming a piece of propaganda. I feel like trying too hard to create a meaningful and poetic piece often results in the creation of something rife with bias and ideology. However letting my unconscious take full control creates what seems like an empty and uninteresting piece. Is there a method to control that chaos without corrupting its meaning while still expressing it poetically? For the time being, I decided to concentrate on learning good technique. 1:18:54 Is there a way we can reach people who are controlled by ideology? If schools are bent on teaching CRT and other Marxist-inspired doctrines, how can we turn the tide? 1:21:13 I've cleaned my room and feel called to serve the greater community. What are some signs that you're ready to go into the world to serve? 1:22:23 In your last Q&A you said you decided to take the vaccine. My friends and I were surprised by this. Is it safer than I think?

Hey Jordan Peterson! I'm 16 almost 17 and my dad absolutely loves you. He thinks your an amazing man and has raised me and my little brother on alot of your principles. He's bought your books, watched your videos, uses analogies you have made, and talks about you quite a bit. I was just thinking that it would be an amazing Father's Day gift for him to see even just a comment of you thanking him and congratulating him for being a great father. If not, I do understand that you're a busy man. Anyways, thats all!

If any Human needs a quack like Peterson they are a futile experiment of life. Everything one needs is inside them. Tap into it. Why would anyone need to get into someone else's head? Are folks so fragile they can't use introspection or self-evaluation to navigate the planet? Give me a break! There are severe mental conditions. No doubt. But whiners who are baffled by life's swings are seeking validation from others to bolster their self-worth. Pitiful!

“Above all, do not lie to yourself. A man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point where he does not discern any truth either in himself or anywhere around him, and thus falls into disrespect towards himself and others. Not respecting anyone, he ceases to love, and having no love, he gives himself up to passions and coarse pleasures in order to occupy and amuse himself, and in his vices reaches complete beastiality, and it all comes form lying continually to others and himself. A man who lies to himself is often the first to take offense. it sometimes feels very good to take offense, doesn't it? And surely he knows that no one has offended him, and that he himself has invented the offense and told lies just for the beauty of it, that he has exaggerated for the sake of effect, that he has picked up on a word and made a mountain out of a pea--he knows all of that, and still he is the first to take offense, he likes feeling offended, it gives him great pleasure, and thus he reaches the point of real hostility...'" --Fyodor Dostoeyvsky

I'm so happy I found Dr. Peterson's lectures a few years ago and I changed a lot as a person (complete with a drastic change in personality after retaking a few personality tests to compare my self now vs 3-5 years ago). I went from being an office worker to a business owner and executive for another one because I used opportunity (opportunities I saw previously as impossible or not even a remote possibility for me) to force myself to grow. I treated my 'greatest good' as helping as many people help themselves through the business I set up, from 5 people on staff I now have almost 50 (after 1.5 years) that I can confidently say I'm giving steady, well paying employment to and that in turn helps their families... and everyday its a challenge because part of that responsibility is so many more people are relying on my competency to keep the ship afloat and on course so to speak.

Once you are closer to the personal truth of self awareness or are psychologically mature, then reading a variety of philosophy may allow you to develop a more sussinct personal philosophy. I learned too late in my life the meaning of the phrase, “if you don’t know what you don’t know and that you don’t know that”…… the question is what happens with your life. This is something I’ve reflected on many times with my choices in my career. We wind up with regret. I found myself many times telling myself if I’d have known what I know now I would have done things differently. I’m convinced I would have been much happier with my life and my career. The worst choice was thinking I could do it all by myself and my talent. I later wished I’d have had a mentor. It’s something I should have looked for while in school, but my ego stopped that.

28:14 Dr Peterson, something I have observed is that there are more people who are married, as in, they got the license, wore pretty clothes, spoke the vows. Very few people are married AND committed to their spouse who they vowed in front of witnesses and/or family to love & cherish. There is a big difference between being married or being married AND committed.
@alaricgoldkuhl155
@alaricgoldkuhl155 2 жыл бұрын
So true Brenda. I think this is a symptom of our social malaise. In the absence of religion or any meaning framework, we have devolved into self interest. Marriage vows become "until I get bored or something better comes along." There is also a lack of commitment to honesty, so necessary for trust and ease of relationship. Nobody seems to understand that devotion to the needs of the other and trusting that the other is devoted to yours can lead to transcendent union. Sex is little more than mutual masturbation, and when this is the case, sex with others becomes so much more tempting. If sex with your partner is transcendent however, sex with others seems dull by comparison.

On the saving your father bit. I remembered in one of your lectures you said to "aim to be the kind of person you can depend on at his father's funeral ". I didn't realize how quickly I would need that advise. When my father passed away 6 weeks ago. I was able to help with most the arrangements myself. I reminded everyone of my dad's sense of humor, the stories he would tell, and at my mother's request I gave my dad's memorial talk. The memorial was streamed via Zoom to 285 homes, with an average of 3 people per house hold we were looking at well over 800 virtual attendants. I have been inundated by my father's personal friends thanking me for capturing and displaying the essence of who their friend was. My family seems to have grown closer. Thank you for the advise Dr Peterson, it really helped. It did come at a sacrifice. I am now hours away from surgery. The stress of the matter left me with some ailmants that will need to be removed surgically. But the peace I was able to contribute to is well worth it and I am in good spirits knowing I did all I can as a son Thank you again
