HUGE THANK YOU! I just knocked my fan off a table and plastic parts came loose, but stuck on shaft. I could not for the life of me figure out how to open the cover. I was almost about to toss/donate it. I thought, hey let me give it one shot to see if there's any info on this model. BOOM, within the the first minute I saw how you did it. 10 minutes later, my fan is now back to normal. It's not the cost of these, I just hate sending things to the landfill if fixable.

I just got one with a similar problem. Thankfully it loosened up a bit but still needs a look. You should never have to service a brand new fan. On top of that, it wasnt even the same one that I ordered!

@@JordanU I prefer to service fans anyway. It helps them last longer. Also, I collect fans from dumpsters or the dump and service those too.

@@JordanU Also, I came across a black Lasko pedestal fan at the dump, and the plug was incorrect, the oscillator was broken, and the motor malfunctioned. I tried replacing the capacitor, but that didn't fix it. So, I parted that fan out.

I notice that the ones with the speed control on the neck are weak, but the ones that done have it Around the neck are better performers.

I have a Lasko 2018 with the classic dial on the motor (not around the neck) and it gets pretty good performance

Wait, since you did say that it already had a nice amount of lubrication, what do you think the problem was? Do you think it was the grease surrounding the rear bearing? I'm curious because I also have the same fan, model 2022/2077 in black that I got in 2018, and I am wondering if I should service mine too.

@@JordanU 2:56 I noticed the gearbox has extra mounting areas on top, which I haven't noticed on Laskos with the switch on the bottom before. They were there for Lasko pedestals without a remote or Lasko 12 inchers with the speed control on top of the motor cover. Well, the switch on this one looks like a grey collar around the base, so they disregarded the extra switch and cord mounting brackets on top of the gearbox cover.

I have one in black too, I wish I knew what the '90s versions of these felt like. I have another lasko 12" from 2008, I guess that's close enough.

@@JordanU 2:57 I saw a wire retainer clip and some extra screw holes on top of the gearbox cover next to the oscillator knob, which I haven't noticed when I was younger. I figured out that's because the factory uses those for Lasko oscillating fans with the speed control on top of the motor cover. In this case, they disregarded them because the switch is on the bottom.

Who was the person that first referred to the regular 3 in 1 oil as the RED can? That makes less sense than the binging of toilet paper! Both cans have the same red colored accents to them, but the base colors which are the most abundant are blue and BLACK. It is a BLACK can with RED accents, and the other can that's for fans is the BLUE can with RED accents. Both of them have red in the same place, the differentiating color is BLUE, or BLACK. I normally don't get picky about these kind of things but every time it's mentioned it drives me nuts. Those switches that spin around the stand are really unique and cool, that's my favorite part of this fan. Low speed is pretty nice too.
