Still jammin' all right! It hasn't been all that long since the last Hot Tuna album came out and Jack and Jorma have a school for musicians going on too. It's too bad they're so under-apreciated...why are such great bands so obscure even with all of the access to media we have now? Hot Tuna should certainly be on the radio more.

Call me late to the party but this is the first time that I remember hearing this 80+ year old song in 55 years + of life. Aside from all the good playing and nice, easy feel, this could easily be a commentary on the folly of drug prohibition.

What a great song! The story is fabulous! It covers everything in the lyrics and it was written in the 1930's. My Dad was born the same year that prohibition ended. If you would like to hear some other great story's listen to Peggy-o and jack a row played by the Grateful Dead. Thanks for the upload and thanks to the musicians for playing and the engineers for doing their thing as well as the producers.

Jerry is playing an acoustic lap slide guitar with no metal resonator. Such guitars (sometimes called Hawaiian) are generally called "Weissenborn" guitars after the famous maker of the 20s. Many open tunings are possible, but open G: DBGDBG is pretty common. You can read about the tunings Jerry Douglas uses at his web site.

This song was written by Clayton McMichen circa 1930. Clayton played guitar and sang, but was best as a fiddler. He played with The Skillet Lickers before forming his own band. Calyton's own recording of this song is available on a CD compilation, and MP3 from a certain apple affiliated enterprise I won't name ;)
