The crystal spheres are absolutely true 3D spheres, but appear like flat walls from the inside and outside, just due to the sheer size of them; keep in mind these things have a radius of double the length from the sun to the farthest planet in the system!

Thank you, beat me to it. What gets me is he was running a graphic that was almost certainly from a ringworld (maybe THE Ringworld from Niven) when he said it, so presumably he'd read the descriptions there. Ringworlds are another (much, much smaller) megastructure where scale makes the local curvature imperceptible.

Spelljammer really really really needs to be adapted for the 5th edition. It's such an amazing setting to play it. You can literally go anywhere in the universe, including other settings like Greyhawk , Krynn or Ebberon or custom ones. Not to mention the awesome 80s style Heavy Metal/Thor Ragnarok/Star Treky vibes it gives...
@brianreisbeck65924 жыл бұрын
@Babes & Board Games I was curious about spelljamming travel to the Crimson Sphere also...a google search gave me the below thoughts/comments: The old Dragon comic Yamara had Yamara and company visit Athas (the world of "Hard Fun") via spelljammer back in the 90's so I'd say there's at least some precedent. In that comic the cleric is still able to reach his deity despite the Dark Sun rules saying otherwise. I think opening the sphere just massively upsets the status quo in Athas, with impacts on economy, religion, ecology, etc. The easy answer is that you could get to Athas via spelljamming, but it's so far outside the flow that the journey would take years, or maybe even decades. Then once you got inside the sphere, your helm would shut down, because the normal magic doesn't exist. So you'd just drift along through wildspace until you ran out of air, unless you have a psionic or lifejamming helm. In short, it's possible, but improbable that anybody would stumble upon it by chance, and even more unlikely that they'd get back out again. Thus only the most learned of sages would even know of its existence, much less how to to get there.

So through the last week I've been immersing myself with D&D lore via your videos while doing other things, and I really enjoy this. Okay, the themesong playing at the end of each episode annoys me a lot by now, but this is the best web resource especially for Forgotten Realms lore I found so far! I'm a veteran AD&D player from back then, travelling Faerun and also Planescape for some time now and was a bit lazy catching up with all the stuff that happened since the Time of Troubles. Your videos helped me a great deal to finally catch up and transport my D&D5 campaign to where Faerun is now. The videos about gods and races are especially great for educating players during character creation. Stellar work. :)

@sharkforce81475 жыл бұрын
@@kurtweinstein8450 that's probably the most overt one. the most active one is actually probably waterdeep, it's just that the ships land out in the ocean and sail in to look normal (at the specific "request" of the lords of waterdeep... as in, "we request that you land out of sight, and in exchange you can request that we don't seize your ship and everything on it and throw the lot of you in jail for violating our rules". apparently they're concerned that people will think space-stuff is better than non-space equivalents (ie bread from space is more exotic) and that's why the requirement is there). in fact, disappointingly most of the ports on toril are not particularly friendly. there are a few dedicated spelljammer ports (as opposed to being a regular port that spelljamming ships can trade at), but they're mostly run by not particularly friendly people...

They are the tow big campaign adventures for Spelljammer and both are noteworthy. I actually think Under the Dark Fist is much better, almost Star Wars like in it's scope, but Goblins Return has a lot of flavour because of the blood feud between the Elves and the Scro.

So, on multiple occasions, Chris Perkins mentions that Toril is, in fact, our earth anciently. Gary Gygax himself imagined himself being visited by Elminster and the two had conversations. You can listen to about specifically on the Dragon Talk Podcast "Matthew Mercer & Chris Perkins on Waterdeep" posted Oct. 9th, 2018. So wouldn't the solar system basically be the same as today only billions of years ago? I mean it doesn't matter which is why D&D is so cool but I thought I would share. Personally, in my games, I image Faerun as its own sphere and the majority of the Mulhorandi coming from our Egypt and thus our dimension/sphere.

Question: I've seen it on a couple maps and have been curious about it, but haven't found anything about it from Google searches. I see on some maps of Realmspace a crystal looking structure that's bigger than a crystal sphere (downward pointing multifaceted pyramid with other crystals on top). In the map I'm looking at right now, it's in the Vodoni Empire, between the spheres of Zalani, Vodonika, and Vodoni. I was wondering what that is and if it's the "Eye of the Gods" that was created by the Vodoni? Thanks
