It's funny you mentioned this.. I use body shots in practice in a controlled environment and they can stop a person dead, but it can be difficult to land them properly which is why I don't use them in actual fights, possibly might be the same reason for others.
@trinidad510

@@jorgem3393 nah I think it's a result of the range being different, and the fact that Clinch, wrestling, and BJJ are involved so they are less inclined to position themselves to throw body shots. Because of this you see a lot more body kicks and knees but not punches. Also there's probably a psychological affect of wearing little 4 oz gloves, they probably subconsciously always feel like they can land a KO shot to the head because of it
@jorgem3393

@@trinidad510 True boxing also has a very wide stance which is very disadvantageous in mma which is more a squared stance to protect takedowns. The problem I have with mma striking is the wild punching man I hate that. They could at the very least keep their guard high and keep balance when striking. Other than that you are right there are so many variables in mma that focusing in one area will leave you very vulnerable to the rest.

I mean head movement is pretty common, it's just very rare to see movement like this, where it seems more like traditional boxing, because it's only really viable when someone is swinging in the pocket and you are up against the cage (meaning you can't just back out or angle off), if you are injured and cannot shoot for a takedown to gain some time to recover this is especially true, but you basically open yourself up by doing this if your opponent doesn't just keep swinging at you and starts using the rest of their arsenal. For example, it's easy to lead movement like that into a headkick (which we've seen happen to quite a few fighters using head movement at the wrong time) because there's only so much you can see, especially when you are focused on the opponents hands and trying to create space. It also changes up your centre of balance, so if the opponent shoots for a takedown it can be much harder to defend that. There's just plenty of reasons head movement like that of boxing isn't really seen all too often, even the counter strikers like Adesanya and Silva tend to keep off centre line and sway out of the way of strikes, because it works for both kicks and punches, whilst guys like Stephen Thompson just constantly angle off and never give you a path to their head in the first place. It is definitely rare to see what Aldo pulled off here though, but it was basically the perfect defense against Stephens at that point, who was solely focused on throwing punches in the pocket and not neutralizing Aldo's movement.

I don't think that's true, Aldo has a very aggressive fighting style where he essentially walks you down and just throws everything at you. He's more technical than he might appear from some of his highlights, but he's the kind of striker that Prime Conor just ate for breakfast, as Aldo would have walked onto that shot eventually, it just wouldn't have been so sudden. It's just a bad matchup for Aldo, made worse by the fact he was completely beaten mentally before the fight even started.
